I remember when all the big players in the industry used to announce their best new products at NAB. As always, BMD stole the show, but what happened to Sony, Panasonic, JVC, and Canon?
The BMD booth definitely was the showstopper. The end-to-end work is really impressive. A purchase of the PYXIS 6K with Resolve included essentially makes the camera a $2700 purchase.
Hmm… here’s my top 5 (in no particular order): 1) BMD DaVinci Resolve 19 (as a DRS user, I can’t wait for the version 19) 2) BMD Replay Editor (I’m not into Broadcast at all, but I’m very curious to see if this Replay Editor could be better than the Speed Editor for regular multicam editing)/ 3) BMD Ursa Cine 12k and 17k (the 17k looks like a huge deal to me, not just for small production) 4) NiSi 135mm (since we already have the rest of the set, the 135mm will fine its place in the case) 5) DJI RS4 Pro and Focus
The great thing about the new BMD EVF is that it can be used with any camera just get a USB to HDMI converter. Also the new BMD cameras can use 3rd party EVF just get a converter cable.
the new EVF looked pretty nice in person. I remember thinking it could have had a little stronger magnification, but I wasn't really paying that much attention to the EVF considering everything else that was going on there, so it may have had some adjustability that I didn't notice. definitely looked nice and sharp, and I will certainly get one if I get one of the new cameras.
BM had a lot of drops - app coming to android, that color panel looks interesting too, haven’t had time to look at DR 19 updates. Looking forward to older Aperture lights going on sale to make room for new releases
Resolve 19 has some cracking new features, but as it is in beta, and I am at the early shooting and editing of a feature, there is no way I will update. It is a shame you can't run 18 side by side with 19.
these black magic camera s are just repackage pocket 4ks processors with different sensors added to them. they use cheap tricks like cropping into the sensor, instead of down-sampling, to get lesser formats and more frame rates. so, if you have some noises at open gate, you ll have big popcorn noises of the same image crop to 1080 for examlpe. Black magic carmera s do have a good image given adequate lighting condition. Blackmagic 6K Pro Pocket or Panasonic LUMIX S5IIx seem like a better value than the Pyxis for now.
Exfat you just need to set the unit allocation size to between 128K and 1024K when formatting, to work on Mac as well. Usually windows goes for higher number by default. No idea what number the Insta360 would go for when formatting internally though.
Ok cool - I’ll keep that in mind and give it a shot with my other product that uses this silly format. Hopefully it fixes the issue for me….man i have been in MACLAND for way to long...
Hi mate re your M1 Mac mine is just 32gb with a 512 hard drive. With about 6 portable SSDs. At times it’s slow and if I want to do some fusion work it’s even slower. I’m thinking of upgrading to a Mac Studio or a beefier Mac mini. If you don’t mind me asking what are the specs on your Mac Mini M1. Cheers John
That's one expensive lens. They should halve that, and then also make it rentable. There should be more HIGH END camera rental places locally. It just has to be done right - full inspection during checkout and checkin. Insurance, etc.
Everyone is complaining about the side screen, 4k 120 fps, and low dynamic range on PIXIE PYXYS whatever that is. You guys don't realize, to make the screen tiltable, you need hinges. Those hinges cost at least $999. Super glue is only $3. It is economical for Blackmagic to buy super glue and stick the screen on the side and keep the price under $3k. And who needs 4K 120 fps or 14 Dynamic range? This camera is made for TH-camrs and content creators. Not for presessional filmmakers. 😀
NAB2024 was HUGE, heres what we think are the most important announcements this YEAR. But we would love to hear your TOP 10’s in the comments below….
I remember when all the big players in the industry used to announce their best new products at NAB. As always, BMD stole the show, but what happened to Sony, Panasonic, JVC, and Canon?
I dont know man - Canon has really just vanished
Seeing Irix lenses taking the spotlight on the newest Black Magic camera fills me with genuine pride!

The Pyxis is a real bargain that is for sure...
Thanks for making a substantive recap that's free of fluff. I love it!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh these are all excellent choices and thanks for sharing….

nah you also need to supply Power over that USB-C connection, so it needs to be designed for that

The DJI focus pro looks interesting. would love to try it with my old bmcc 2.5k
exactly what I was thinking
The Kinefinity universal EVF is one you forgot and is worth mentioning.
Good call….

My biggest problem with the PYXIS is the fact that we cannot record in other flavors than BRAW

NiSi, DJI Lidar
great choices
listening to jared land talk about the state of red was unbelievably bad, it wreaked of dead company with no direction.
Oh my yes thanks for complaining about mac’s and their horrendous bluetooth support

Don´t you think that the time we waste watching your face should be used to show better the products?
