I can't get into the newer need for speeds. They don't keep my attention. The older ones have a nice heavy feel to them. High Stakes was the perfect in between.
The career mode in this game was extremely difficult with racing through thunder storms and almost total darkness also the final tournament on each level you risked losing your car !
best NFS hands down, this is how you do a menu. The music and presentation is top notch. And the single player is very robust and rewarding. Loved the feeling when you can finally afford that high end car and it feels so good, your're flying and run into all the walls and then after the race go to repair it and your jaw drops at the price. The next race your so careful with it you lose and then go back to staking cheaper cars to make money to afford repairs. good times
One of the very first video games I have ever played in my life. Back in 2001, when my family got our first computer, and I was playing it with Logitech Wingman wheels. I was 7 years old by then and I am 30 now. Still miss the old times with my parents
This game is probably the best racing game on PC. I love the damage system, also you can't back out from the tournaments which makes it very realistic and you can actually fail if you completely break your car and don't have the money to repair it. Awesome game. All other NFS games are not as good, the original most wanted was good too though.
Games like Official F1 racing 1999 (pc), and Dirt Track Racing + Sprint Cars, did pretty well on those things also, and definitely deserve the mention. But this one was always the best one and my favorite! C: I really liked F1's feature of being able to momentarily view other car's positions on the track when the live mini tv came up during crash accidents; always makes me wanna play it again just for that!
43:35 -- I don't know what's funnier, the fact that that car just rammed the other car like it was nothing, or the fact that the driver in your car actually kind of turned his head to look.
you're wrong, this was the first game where they introduced the deformation by accident, in effect, after this game was withdrawn that feature because the car brands did not want to see their cars crashed in a game.
That sunshine at 4:18. Just extra ordinry graphics for that time. In one track i dont remember but there were clouds in that. Too beautiful graphics for a game
Yes and this needed some decent hardware at the time to run it super smooth. I got a rude awakening about system requirements with this game and my family's Pentium 233.
dude yes! i remember buying a ps1 at a pawnshop and this game was in there. a gem from my childhood. my all time favorite racing game. now I'm just sad..
This was the first NFS game I ever played where you felt like they started taking the street racing element of it seriously. It's such a strange and beautiful juxtaposition to have fast racing cars running through these peaceful country towns.
Ladies and gentlemen this was the racing game the defined the genre. Custom cars, collision damage, police pursuit, career and championship with bonus and of course Callista. RiP Saki Kaskas
I had an Intel pentium 233 mhz with no graphics card, so slow this would run at 5-10 frames per second. It really blew my mind how smooth it was once I got an upgrade.
This was my 1st nfs i ever play back in the days...... can't let it go despite the ups and downs EA had all those years. Need for Speed will always remain one of my favorite series
I wish i could go back in time to my 14th birthday. Happy times with my family, in a foreign country and playing this game as a present. Those were the days LOL
This game was the best.... the car damage was something more racing games need to take note of (seems like they're doing it now, but for YEARS they never did)..... and the mod community for this game was pretty good as well (I remember downloading Fast and Furious skins complete with a nitro boost).
Childhood. This is probably the NFS installment that I've spent the most time with and eventhough I believe that NFS 3 had a better soundtrack (maybe except Callista - NFS4 tracks were not exactly my style) the game was just hell lot of fun. No rubber banding, ability to push the AI out of track :D and more. Good show!
Gosh... I remember back in the day I had a small group of internet friends on ICQ and we would make add on Knight Rider cars for this game. I spent hours upon hours in NFS Cad just trying to get the string of lights on KITT's nose to cycle left to right like the show. The only way to have those cycling lights was to play as a cop, you just had a static bar of lights if you were a civilian.
That is an official EA Japan version car. Australian version cars: Ford Falcon XR8, Holden HSV S99, MHRT VT Commodore. EA downloadable cars: Astin Martin DB7, BMW M coupe, BMW M roadster, Ferrari 360 Modena, Jaguar XJR-15, Lister Storm. Fan sites made Japan and Australian cars downloadable as well.
Well this game was awesome hands down, even though it had only circuit racing, menu music, menu presentation, modifications, car damage, anxiety with money and losing a high stakes race and the aesthetics this is pinnacle NFS. The car descriptions in the menu was very detailed, it didn't have that stupid bar on NFSU. I would love to see a detailed modification level, you tune the engine you have the detail of the improvement but yeah just imagine NFS being more realistic and the player does tune the car step by step, if he can afford an engine port changing an engine port, or an air filter, or spark plug ignition and starting with a very common 4 cylinder car. For instance in High stakes there could be no way a Z3 racing a Mclaren F1 while in Underground you could finish the game with Dodge Neon and you could change the car through the game anytime you wanted. The perfect NFS should be there for the developers, from each game there's some good bits and some bad bits to take.
Oh man... forget the career mode for me. It was all about the PURSUIT MODE. I remember websites like Cop Car Central where you could download realistic police cars and switch them out for the default ones. I spent hours and hours imagining being on patrol and getting into pursuits. It was around the same time those Police Pursuits Caught on Camera shows were popular. Haha I'd chase a car for 10 minutes keeping my distance and waiting for the perfect moment to do a 'safe' PIT or Fishtail maneuver. Haha I'd imagine pulling over cartel smugglers in the Canyons, or poachers in Kindiak Park. Sigh.... good times... haha....
Sonic Ace 24 thats not the excuse, cuz they still need to show the game in its completeness like they did with nfs 1 and 2 that had almost nothing to unlock as well still they did show us the games.
