I'm late but are the lighthouse tracker the 3 pointy things on the quest pro? or are they the box devices??? kinda new to the whole full body tracking thing
Hey, I don't think it's specified in the video, but do I or do I not require Base Stations for this all to work, I'm assuming I do to get the controllers to track in the first place?
This is awesome. One question I have is whether you can use all of this to port over hand tracking from the Quest Pro for V-Tubing in lieu of the valve knuckles.
I need some serious help, I’m trying to do this with full body tracking for VR, but my lighthouses and controllers don’t pair unless the dongle for my trackers are plugged in, if they aren’t, it says the controllers have no hardware to pair to end the lighthouse option doesn’t show up in space calibrator
@@cbutters after some deeper searching i learned that you can use the old index as a dongle for the two controllers and after plugging it in it works just fine!
So do you have a version for Quest 3? Or just for Quest Pro? I really want to get into VR and I was looking at some kind of Quest since I’m clumsy and don’t want to get tangled in cables, but I really REALLY want the finger tracking from the Index Knuckles because it looks like a lot of fun on things like Blade & Sorcery.
That's literally what this video is about, showing you how to use index controllers with Quest devices There are a few options for you. A) If you buy base stations, you CAN use index controllers with quest using openvr space calibrator (link in video description.) B)As an interesting alternative; If you use Virtual Desktop, it has a new feature added in the last month or so that lets you use the finger tracking of the quest and it will automatically emulate an Index Controller using your hands. (Downside is you can't move using the joystick unless you switch back to the controller, but it's pretty quick and easy to do this.) It actually tracks fingers pretty well and at the very least is fun to play around with and costs you nothing in hardware to try out.
@@cbutters I wasn’t sure it would work with Quest 3, since the code in the description calls out the Quest Pro specifically. Also, which of the two would you recommend? I am a complete newcomer when it comes to the VR scene, so I don’t even know where to start.
Can you tell me what you used to mount the tundra tracker to your Quest Pro? edit: I'm trying to look for a setup where I can remove the tracker easily so I can lay back on my chair for simple media watching.
Hii, I had no problems connecting Meta Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop Streamer (5hz). I just turn on the Quest, Run Virtual Desktop, run SlimeVr server(I use this for FBT), run SteamVR and im good to go. The quest 2 i charge via normal type C charger with regular (using normal socket). Should it work the same way if I upgrade Quest 2 to QuestPro? Does it charge connected to socket via USB C cable to socket while playing?
Would you still recommend getting a quest pro now? I'm a little worried about Quest pro support ending, but will this affect PCVR use when my setup is THE EXACT SAME as yours?
Even being discontinued; the Quest Pro shouldn't really be affected for PCVR purposes, still will work just fine into perpetuity for that I would think. However; Unless you really want Eye tracking, the Quest 3 is what I use these days, the slightly larger FOV, 120Hz and better passthrough camera is more important to me than any eye tracking. (but that's just me.) The color representation on the Quest pro is better than the Quest 3 though... If you really want eye tracking, quest pro is what you want, but most people will want the Quest 3.
@@cbutters Hello! Thank you for your answer :) I have purchased the Quest Pro. I use VR mostly for VRChat socializing and for content, so face tracking is the deal breaker and reason I wanted it in the first place I am very happy with my purchase, and thank you so much for the guide!
I mightve missed it but did you ever describe what you attached the tracker with. I'm trying to copy it but can only think of using a command strip to velcro it on
Question for you: Does the tracker need to be visible all the time while playing? any oculusion problems by having the tracker at the back of your head? If I have two lighthouses in front of me, will they struggle if the tundra tracker is behind the headset?
It's recommended you position your lighthouses in the opposite corners of your play space for a reason. Having both lighthouses on the same wall/side is going to increase the chance of problems for sure.
Hello, is there a way to turn off the Quest Pro controllers for Steam? - My index controllers are being tracked. But I can't use them to control, because the stupid Quest controllers are somehow activated.
Thank you a lot! You made my life much more easier, I did everything what you said and it works perfectly! Only two things, I didn't figure out why my Index or Htc controllers not working, steam vr doesn't see them while I using Meta pro headset. And second hand tracking not working on pcvr, vrchat etc. Is there any solutions?
sometimes my hand tracking or quest controllers stay on when switching to steamvr and it makes me unable to connect my index controllers, might anyone know a solution, the powershell doesnt make them go away
Virtual desktop has a toggle to turn off the controllers now, which helps a lot and you don't need the powershell (which, like you say, does not not work anymore anyways.) Also look in the description for the updated version of openvr space calibrator, I feel like the newer fork of it handles controller status better in the event you have your quest controllers still on.
Hey, I know this video is a bit old but... Can you tell me what cable are you using? I wanna buy a good usb c to usb c cable to use with the Minisopuru hub to charge the quest while playing. Do I just get the official one?
I use the official one, it seems to hold up really well and is flexible. It might be a bit more pricy than other cables, but it also is an optical cable internally and is very well suited for the job.
hey, amazing video! I have one question, what is the brand of your top custom strap and/or facial gasket and back support? I have been looking for a top strap like the index's top strap and for the life of me i can't find it anywhere! Your one is perfect, Thank you in advance!
@@cbutters Does that mean no dongles are needed for index controllers now? I see conflicting things online :P Also, I see all the recent replies from you on this year old video, thats really cool.
@@cbutters Main issue when doing this though is that when u plug it back in to charge which I did a few times to test, is that it disables face tracking altogether, kinda weird, only fix is rebooting the headset completely. Not sure if you've run into this.
I do prefer either the Steam Link app on Quest or Virtual Desktop over Oculus LINK at this point. You can still use the techniques here for combining your SteamVR and Quest Playspaces though. Everything Still applies.
The Power injector hub worked at first. But then when the Quest Pro reached near 100% power the unit shut off, causing the HMD to lose link connection over and over. Also, y'all should be really careful about using the power injector. I read on the Quest site that power charging the battery can damage it. Not sure how reliable that info is, but for the price of the Pro, I'm not sure I want to risk it. Great video!
So to get the knuckles controllers to work with a different headset you just need the openvr space calibrator and the normal calibration? No lighthouses? If it works well I might buy the tundra tracker. Would it work with a cheaper tracker like the slimevr pucks? Thanks for all the info man.
You absolutely need the lighthouses. Knuckles (and the body tracker) use lighthouses to figure out their position relative to lighthouses. The calibration just "overlaps" both playspaces together to make it usable.
@@ZeitheronUA Thanks for the information. I was thinkin of doing this but the price is a bit much with knuckles and lighthouses. At that point I'm at like 400-450. Not worth it for me at least.
@@kenshinesca That is very understandable. It's more of an "upgrade" from other PCVR headsets, like if you had vive or something, so you already have lighthouses, and, perhaps, knuckles. What mount did you use to add the tundra tracker to your headset? I am looking at potentially buying this setup to replace my old WMR headset and I am currently tallying up all the things I need. Thank you!
The struggle between companies just to have the best setup is real... and it only exists because they will never work together to support the consumer.
Minisoporu device will not work with the quest 2 unfortunately. I cant get it to charge while connecting despite setting it up identically to your set up. Any suggestions or it only works with pro
Can you control the airlink taskbar and your desktops with the index controllers? I wanna still be able to select and type on my computer if I mix in these controllers
Idk, maybe im dumb or something, but even after using the PowerShell script the quest pro controllers don't disappear. And if i try to disconnect them (even with the index controllers connected) the headset tells me it can't find the controllers and gets stuck in the oculus menu telling me to press the +/- buttons at the same time to exit (which ironically still does nothing) Any help?
you have to run those powershell scripts as admin and enable permissions for the powershell script something like (powershell set execution policy bypass)
@@joshuagarcia874 Yes, the Valve Index has finger tracking. But, the Quest 3 has Hand Tracking already, so no need for finger tracking in the controllers.
@@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMethe Quest's hand tracking is great if you're staying in one place but if you depend on the clunky gestures to move around it is awful compared to having proper joysticks. @@ZeitheronUA what cable would you recommend? seen some options on amazon but they’re either 10-16ft (short imo) or usb-A.. ofc charging while playing is important but length is a nice plus.

Keep it simple. I have one single cable and thats it and can play all day. I hate base stations now... Tied down to a tiny area. 😊
Agreed; I see the KNuckles as a downgrade since it still occludes and has 1 haptic motor. TouchPro are occlusion less and have 3 haptic motors. TouchPro are just amazing, they're so good.
@@meowmix705 But there is things the Quest Pro controllers cant do. Like Individual fingers and you can naturally grab things in VR.. Tech Might be better in The Quest Pro but but not when it comes to functionality in games. occlusion isn't a issue on the Valve Controllers.
You can vastly improve the pro controllers tracking quality by removing or tunning down very bright light in your play space. The tracking is for a good part based on the cameras in the controller itself, and those are quite sensible to bright lights. I've run multiple tests, comparing them with index controllers, and they're just as good, and in some cases, almost better, as long as you have the proper conditions.
QPro controllers are much worse when precision in high speed movements is needed (i.e. Beat Saber). QPro controllers overestimate your hand acceleration so much that in a typical Beat Saber jump map (fast one hand up-downs), your saber almost does a 360 spin. That is unacceptable.

How has your Index controllers held up? I had planned to get them because the Pro controllers are horrendous, but there's so many mixed reviews on them that I'm not sure if they're worth the purchase or not anymore.
I purchased the pro today and steam vr works without issue for me . Half life looks soid good coming from rift s
Same here. Just need to have a steam vr shortcut in your oculus library.
And yes, HL Alyx looks incredible on it, thanks to the image clarity this headset produces.
that sucks now that there is a discount
I'm late but are the lighthouse tracker the 3 pointy things on the quest pro? or are they the box devices??? kinda new to the whole full body tracking thing
Hey, I don't think it's specified in the video, but do I or do I not require Base Stations for this all to work, I'm assuming I do to get the controllers to track in the first place?
you need base stations to make index controllers work yes.
This is awesome. One question I have is whether you can use all of this to port over hand tracking from the Quest Pro for V-Tubing in lieu of the valve knuckles.
Don’t you need some kind of usb antenna or something to pick up the valve index controllers? If you don’t already own a index headset ?
lighthouses
I need some serious help, I’m trying to do this with full body tracking for VR, but my lighthouses and controllers don’t pair unless the dongle for my trackers are plugged in, if they aren’t, it says the controllers have no hardware to pair to end the lighthouse option doesn’t show up in space calibrator
What's the problem? You need the dongles plugged in no matter what.
That's literally what this video is about, showing you how to use index controllers with Quest devices
There are a few options for you.
A) If you buy base stations, you CAN use index controllers with quest using openvr space calibrator (link in video description.)
B)As an interesting alternative; If you use Virtual Desktop, it has a new feature added in the last month or so that lets you use the finger tracking of the quest and it will automatically emulate an Index Controller using your hands.
I'm also looking to find a simple way to hook a tracker to the quest pro.
So for the script I tried to use it and it didn’t work. It don’t even show me the script it just pops in and out really fast
Did you find any solution? Im having the same problem
Newer PC motherboards now have 40w-60w charging on USB-c ports, if you have that you don't need to worry about the first one.
I use VR mostly for VRChat socializing and for content, so face tracking is the deal breaker and reason I wanted it in the first place
I am very happy with my purchase, and thank you so much for the guide!
I mightve missed it but did you ever describe what you attached the tracker with. I'm trying to copy it but can only think of using a command strip to velcro it on
I used this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XBZ4T27/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What is the adhesive that the tundra tracker is attached to? I can't seem to find it.

Is there any solutions?
hand tracking is unfortunately strict to Quest VR PcVR does not have this solution just yet.
What are you using to stick the Tundra Tracker to the Quest Pro?
sometimes my hand tracking or quest controllers stay on when switching to steamvr and it makes me unable to connect my index controllers, might anyone know a solution, the powershell doesnt make them go away
Virtual desktop has a toggle to turn off the controllers now, which helps a lot and you don't need the powershell (which, like you say, does not not work anymore anyways.)
Also look in the description for the updated version of openvr space calibrator, I feel like the newer fork of it handles controller status better in the event you have your quest controllers still on.
@@cbutters ok ty for the reply, I appreciate the help
How do u attach a tracker on the headset? 13:52
There is a mount you can buy (see description) then you use continuous calibration branch of playspace calibrator.
@@cbutters Wow I was not expecting a response. Thank you so much! I'll be buying the official one then, have a great day :)
shoudl the powershell scripts still work? my quest pro controllers still show up in steamvr even when i ran the disable script
its possible new version of steamvr work differently. I use the "disable controllers" inside Virtual Desktop now and it works great.
hey, amazing video! I have one question, what is the brand of your top custom strap and/or facial gasket and back support? I have been looking for a top strap like the index's top strap and for the life of me i can't find it anywhere! Your one is perfect, Thank you in advance!
I actually did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/weejqvNpKbg/w-d-xo.html Amazon link in that description.
How do you connect index controllers to the quest pro?? I turned them off, but pressing the power on button on quest sint working
Watch the video fully. You have to map them together for pcvr only using openvr space calibrator
@@cbutters
Does that mean no dongles are needed for index controllers now? I see conflicting things online :P
Also, I see all the recent replies from you on this year old video, thats really cool.
@Denvigen you need dangles, then the steamer and questvr 3D spaces are connected in software purely for pcvr.
Yoo, for the USB-C Hub does this cause damage to the battery at all in the quest pro? is it ok to always have it connected?
Keeping batteries at 100% all the time can be bad for the batteries, I'd disconnect it when not using it, but its probably fine.
@@cbutters Main issue when doing this though is that when u plug it back in to charge which I did a few times to test, is that it disables face tracking altogether, kinda weird, only fix is rebooting the headset completely. Not sure if you've run into this.
i know steam added a app in the quest store for people to use does that make things easier?
I wonder if using the lower power options would just extend the battery life long enough, instead of it charging
How are you making your base stations automatically turn on without a SteamVR Headset?
I use an android APP called Lighthouse PM
This would just mean a need for a tracker and the QP, but in your case it's just not that easy of a choice, and quite pricey... ^^"
Glad I could help ya out
What mount did you use to add the tundra tracker to your headset? I am looking at potentially buying this setup to replace my old WMR headset and I am currently tallying up all the things I need. Thank you!
It was a $7 Amazon vhb tape mount.
@@cbutters Thanks man! I just bought the same setup besides the tundra, I used a vive 3.0 tracker since I only needed one since I already own 3 2.0s.
Thank you very much for the video!
The struggle between companies just to have the best setup is real... and it only exists because they will never work together to support the consumer.
thank you SO much omg i was looking for something like this.
Doesn't using a oculos headset stop your 2.0 base stations from going into sleep mode?
That's correct, I leave them on and turn them off when I need to with an android app on my phone.
one issue, when using Link + SteamVR it would refuse to recognize Knuckles or LH, how do i make it see the devices?
watch the video where it talks about using openvr space calibrator.
Minisoporu device will not work with the quest 2 unfortunately. I cant get it to charge while connecting despite setting it up identically to your set up. Any suggestions or it only works with pro
Can you control the airlink taskbar and your desktops with the index controllers? I wanna still be able to select and type on my computer if I mix in these controllers
no
@@Rommik Damn, I don’t like steamvr’s pc interface. It’s grainy compared to airlink
Idk, maybe im dumb or something, but even after using the PowerShell script the quest pro controllers don't disappear. And if i try to disconnect them (even with the index controllers connected) the headset tells me it can't find the controllers and gets stuck in the oculus menu telling me to press the +/- buttons at the same time to exit (which ironically still does nothing)
Any help?
you have to run those powershell scripts as admin and enable permissions for the powershell script something like (powershell set execution policy bypass)
@@cbutters does this still work with oculus link? I forgot to mention I'm using a tether.
@@globru26 SteamVR has had some updates recently, maybe that script no longer works, I will test later today.
What's is wrong with the Pro Touch Controllers...? I am just curious as to why you prefer the index controllers over the Quest Pro's Controllers.. ?
Finger tracking
@@joshuagarcia874 Yes, the Valve Index has finger tracking. But, the Quest 3 has Hand Tracking already, so no need for finger tracking in the controllers.
@@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMethe Quest's hand tracking is great if you're staying in one place but if you depend on the clunky gestures to move around it is awful compared to having proper joysticks. The touch pro controllers are also unusable for fast paced games like beat saber since when you move them very fast they tend to overestimate your movements making them very imprecise.
@@iPhoneAppReviewer Yeah, I’ve noticed they’re not 100% matching my hand placement either. I am still happy with there performance for what it is. But, Base Station Tracking isn’t perfect either. I have noticed drifting hands as well. Not sure what is causing this. But, every once in a while I will have to Turn my Valve Index Controllers off and Re-pair them to the PC to fix this issue. I use three base stations setup to get pretty good coverage so this shouldn’t be happening. But, overall I am happy with the Tracking. Once they’re working properly they work great!
Do you need dongles for the controllers?
yes.
The hub itself doesnt seem to be working for me, which is my main reason im stumbling across this video. However. Using a powered usb hub is something i didnt think of at all.
So i will try to find another usb hub that might be able to keep it charged! Will reply to this comment if i find one.
How do i port the c part into my pc? i dont have one...
Does this work with virtual desktop?
Does this also work with WMR headsets like the HP?
Continuous Calibration can work with WMR headsets as well yes.
Before watching the video id like to say that this may or may not persuade me into getting this headset…
That said, i would absolutely buy the quest pro if theres a way to keep battery life charged with a link cable…
edit: I think im almost sold on this… damn it 😂😂😂
also what if you just… unpair the quest pros controllers? would that work? Since finger tracking exists, i figure you’d be able to just skip the quest pro controllers
also can you use the gpu’s usb-c port for link?
Depends on what you want to skip with pro controllers.
I personally disabled them using a script from google drive and just use finger tracking to get into air link and from there I launch the knuckles and trackers.

@@dannygaron Are you using the power injector or is your Pro charging with the cable alone?

where does he literally show how to connect the index controllers.
Why? The Quest Pro has pretty amazing controllers.

It is the regular official Link cable from Oculus/Meta. amzn.to/3LQETgQ
@@Fatalution they made tracking improvements with v50. They're pretty solid for me with the new update
@@Fatalution I do talk from the new update though. I haven't seen any precision issues or delay in beat saber.
just stick your quest controllers into a faraday bag.
The fact you consider the old, horrible God rays, low res Index the king shows how crazy you are.
I mean I have an Index and a Pro. I can say for certain that the Index is still the king, but the pro is nice for face tracking.
Sorry but the first problem is that shit is $1000 dollars 😒
its a high end vr dawg
So.,.. how do we do it with quest controllers...
the quest controllers will just work natively.
There is big qpro controllers latency, it's absolutely trash for PCVR so lighthouse tracking with valve controllers only fix
Y would u put worse controllers on a pro? Makes no sense to me
QPro controllers are much worse when precision in high speed movements is needed (i.e. Beat Saber).
QPro controllers overestimate your hand acceleration so much that in a typical Beat Saber jump map (fast one hand up-downs), your saber almost does a 360 spin. That is unacceptable.
Valve Index controllers are MUCH better in that regard. I would not, ever, use QPro controllers personally. That is one reason why I still stay on Quest 2 - and will do so if Quest 3 comes with the same shifty "self tracked" controllers
QP are not better.
