Attack speed on crit and bash heroes. DMG on heroes with passive attack speed bonuses. maelstrom for anything inbetween if you're not a natural carry/semicarry/core
Its very good advice man I wouldn't go around telling people otherwise.
I have had dmg problems in the late game as sniper, bfly mkb daeda, bots, hurricane, mjolnir, even with a consumed shard. Dmg feels so weak. I think mkb + mass attack speed for procs with headshot might do more dmg and lock down.
YOYOYO mynaem Mjollnir does so much damage on Sniper you should get that :)

When I browse TH-cam I'm not looking for hour long videos but for short, interesting and informative videos instead.
This ticks all the boxes for me as it is about a game I enjoy , I learn something, and I can go on with something else after only 7 minutes. Thumbs up for sure

While I can play all but two heros in dota 2 building items can be tricky. These guides will help sooooo much thank you purge and please make more videos.
i would really like this purge itemization is one of my greatest weaknesses in game i allways find my self wondering what would be the best to buy in situations and i think having a full in depth understanding of all or most of the items it might be easire for me to maker better late item decisions

One thing that I did is actually sat down and took time to look at all the items and popular item builds for heroes, and figure out why things are good or bad on certain heroes or in certain situations. It helps when watching Purge commentaries to focus on his item decisions and actually think about them, as well as actually playing carries in your games, since they have the largest selection of items to build from.
It's almost always better to blindly follow recommended items than to buy your own items.
Buy blink on lion and don't buy mekanism on meepo and you're good.

Trash Master9000 The meta is refined by thousands of players every day. Whenever another item is clearly more viable it will become the meta in no time. If the item build is not good for the lineup, the hero pick was not good either.
This is literally my favorite thing to relax to. The music and Purge's voice. I want Purge to also make a storytime channel where he reads me kids books.
One thing worth mentioning IMO is how Eye of Skadi is no longer a UAM item and thus can be paired with Desolator. The problem with building Deso on many heroes in the past is that not only were you sacrificing your hero's durability through that one purchase alone, but you were also sacrificing it by eliminating items that increased it but had UAMs like Skadi or Satanic (which still is a UAM so you can't use both at once). Now on heroes like Weaver, TA, SF, Sniper, etc. both can be built giving those heroes both a DPS and durability advantage in the late-midgame (as well as the slow effect from Skadi).
Wait, I thought Skadi was never a UAM
It was an attack modifier for a while. A recent(ish?) patch removed that and now can be used with desolator or satanic.

I think purge deserves props for always trying to come up with innovative new ways to offer unique dota content. It is turning into a great resource hub for the community. Keep up the good work, love the concept, and the information/numbers heavy format.
Ok here is my feedback on the video:
Positives:
- Lenght of the video is perfect, long enough to give detailed and coprehensive facts but not too long that it becomes boring.
- Good music choice, quite neutral as well as good voice over by Purge.
-In general, a good amount of stats, where you dont feel swamped and can still keep up, but not so basic that its pointless.
-Great amount of information, learned a lot.
Negatives:
-Music maybe a tad too loud
-I believe the graphics need a bit of work. I know Purge doesn't have the same equipment as his weathermas segments at Valve events, but some of the transitions, and just the way things are presented seem lacking in polish (for example when doing which heroes are (not) good with desolator, instead of MS Paint red crosses, maybe like a table detailing the aforementioned information).
Conclusion:
All in all, great work Purge, as usual, it is very informative. Even though the graphics do not hamper my understanding of the item/video, I feel they need a bit of polish.

I love the format. It's very professional and concise.
I think analysing Midas and Shadow Blade, while not overtly complex, would help a lot of low-tier players.
Butterfly is the item that I think would be best for another of these, much harder to understand how good it actually is since you never really see anything happen at all.
I've been following purge since i started playing dota back in 2012 and this video definitely definitely taught me a few small things i wasnt aware of

Oh please! I need this series so badly! I am horrible at picking the correct items, I have tried to go through all items, read what they do, compare stats and whatnot, but it is very time consuming... This series alone will raise the MMR's of so many people...

Item description in this detail is so good. its worth the time and your effort. I hope you do all the major items and later transition to the less used and situational items. I suggest if u can use the core items first on most popular heroes its a great place to start. The timing and relevance of the items if you can. Mentions item counters when available is a bonus information. I hope you read it. thank you purge for your great work. I hope your blade never gets dull.

Amazing format, being informative and concise without sacrificing vital information. One thing that I would suggest is hero and itens matchups (Deso against them) for example, against Mek (+armor aura), natural Medallion and Solar Crest buyers (for example, Venge) and some heroes that provide armor or have skills that give them like Dazzle's Dazzle, Visage's Grave Keeper Cloak, Sven's Warcry...

Purge, I love this new series, I have played Dota 2 for a while but havn't been too series about it until more of my friends got into it and now this is a great way for all of us to learn the nitty gritty of items and when and when not to buy them and why. This is fantastic for us as we want to learn more about the items and heroes. :)

When to buy armours or stats heavy items.
Depend on the hero and which phase of the game. Eearly game, armo is not that important but in mid and late game, when the enermy carries have damge item, then you should buy armor. See the graph at 4:50, the 45 degree turn point is 15 armo, thus you need to be 15 armor to reduce the physical damage taken by half. If the enermies have deso or armo reduction spell (such as TA's melt, SF's aura, sladar's ult etc ) you need to buy more armor items to counter the reduction. in late game, after you have hp item (such as heart of tarrasque, bloodstone, etc) or you are already high hp (such as doom, centaur etc), you will be more tanky when you buy armor items.
Stats items benefit you in early and mid game, but not late game that much. In case that you need abit more hp, mana pool, or agility or you will buy stat items such as brace, wand, stick, null. those items also can be upgated into bigger items such as drum, veil. Eco sibre is a good heavy stat item for meele carry heros with low attack speed, low mana pool such as, life stealer, tiny, sven, sladar, sprite breaker, void, or for melee heros which benefit more when hitting more such as slark, monkey. you buy this after you have key items for each hero (such as life stealer after armlet, slark after shadow blade, tiny after blink). Dragon lance is good for range care heros such as sniper, drow with good early stats and range addition. S&Y is also a good stat items for some hero such as TB, jugg, Bloodseeker. In late game, eye of skadi is a good stat item for Slark, Invoker, Sniper, Queen of Pain, Medusa, Morphling, Shadow Fiend, Terrorblade because these hero benefit all of the stat as well as the slow effect but this item situational item and often is the 4th 5th or 6th item. you would not buy this before you finish other core items on your hero. For example, TB needs treat, dragon lance, manta, before eye of skadi, but if the enermy has alot of disable of high damge spell, you probably need bkb or linken first.

I find you should actually generally do the opposite. If you're losing more than a little bit, your opponent is going to be killing you faster no matter how much you try to play catch up in terms of stats. I feel that its better to get more attack focused items when you're losing (unless you're like, a support that needs to live to get off a big ability) so that you can 'make a bet' on killing the enemy carry either through ganking or team fighting and bringing the gold advantage back toward you.
Essentially, IMO anyway, getting stats and armor when you're losing is 'playing to lose less' while getting damage or aggressive items is 'playing to win'.
Admittedly I could be completely wrong on this but that's my take on it anyway and it seems to work out for me.

Wow these videos are amazing. I think there is a lot of content out there on why people should build a hero certain ways (referring to skill builds) and how they are to be played but very little on items. Especially in this format. I think videos like this will help people break out of the habit of following what their in game guide tells them to buy, and think about the items they need in THEIR game, making them much better players.

lotus orb is an item I really think is good but many people don't understand fully. Love the series idea and would love to learn about any items more than I already know
the next item needs to be iron talon. That legion commander shit needs to be addressed.
I like this format, it gives a better understanding about why an item is useful, rather than just telling people what characters its good on. Most guides focus on the latter, but the former is more useful imo. It empowers newer players to make their own decisions about what items to build for a certain situation rather than just blindly following a guide.
However, on that note I don't really think knowing how efficient an item is on a stats-per-gold basis is all the useful for making decisions. As some other comments have mentioned, I'd like to see more of a comparison to other items you may build in similar situations, or for instance why you may opt for a desolator in the early/mid game rather than trying to build towards a more expensive later game item. Or to put it another way, why would someone build x item rather than y or z items that fulfill similar needs.

I like it a lot since (for me) it is hard to remember all the different numbers on all the items. Hearing Purge talk about it like this gives me a "story" to remember the item with. I think this is going to speed up my learning a lot! Thank you a lot! The music was a little too loud compared to purges voice btw.

I think this video series can be excellent for me. I struggle greatly with making item purchases without a guide and I feel it is limiting my potential flexibility during a match. I would love to see more videos like this.
Great analysis! The music may have been a little loud but wasn't too distracting. Visual representation through the demo mode could help people visually understand what you are saying better since most people don't like math (like you said). Great video purge! Can't wait to see more

I really enjoyed this. this is something I have been looking for online, but could never find. this is something that will really change how i play dota.
First of all, thanks for uploading such an anlysis and make it public. You make a so much better dota comunity with contributions like this, even if you do it for your own benefiit. Undoubtedly you show your pasion too. I think the recomendation to wether to use it or not depends heavily more on your allies more than on your own hero. This is because the most valuable benefit of desolator (and also the most difficult part to calculate) is the increase of your entire team's output damage, even if it becomes lower at high stages of the game. Of course it's a situational item: It is very dependant of your team's composition.
Another item which is also difficult valuate is Orchid, due to it's invaluable active and the possibility to be upgraded and also due to crits granted by Bloodthorn
In my opinion this is a seriously beneficial series concept that I sincerely hope you are able to invest your time into. Thanks pudge

Due to my career I have found that I have very limited time to watch TH-cam videos and while I love your longer formats I can maybe get through one in 2 weeks based on my limited free time. I love your videos because like to keep up with dota and I find your butter-smooth voice and presentation to be very cathartic so I would love more short format videos. Thumbs up!
Good format and I like you started with deso. I've never understood how -armor worked. Super unclear if it's meant to counter high armor or punish low armor or just always good. This helped explain a lot.

Hey Purge, I think this video series is a great, great idea. Both for new players and for veterans especially when Valve decides to significantly change small things that we thought we knew by heart.

Absolutely love this idea for a series. I would suggest another situational item, something like Heaven's Halberd or Vanguard.
Very quality video. Definitely something that's needed explaining why any hero would ever buy X item. Would be interesting to do a full analysis on Linken's. It's an item that people don't really understand why or when certain heroes buy it, and I think a more statistical look at it could prove interesting.

I'd like to see one for mekanism, when supports should be focusing on buying it, at what point in the game is it too late to buy (as supports don't typically have a whole lot of gold especially when there is a solo support buying all the wards and trying to contest enemy farm and roam to gank lanes). Great stuff, but as a suggestion, when you're listing the heroes for which deso is a must-buy, situational, and never-buy item, maybe organize them in a table format instead of splashing them all over the screen.
