*STOP THE PRESS* This video came out 20 minutes before the 7.21 patch. Here are some relevant changes from that patch. * Battle Fury: Percentage damage bonus against non-hero units changed to be a fixed amount matching Quelling Blade * Mask of Madness: Lifesteal increased from 15% to 20% * Melee creeps average gold bounty reduced by 3 * Range creeps upgrade cycle gold bounty increased from +3 to +6 * Replaced the primary jungles' ancient camps with big camps * XP required to reach level 7->12 changed from 640/660/680/800/820/840 to 720/750/780/810/840/870 (the difference is +80/90/100/10/20/30 XP) The fundamentals taught in the video still apply though!
Hey purge, a topic i really sturggle with and would be cool if someone could address it (because i couldn’t find much by browsing) is hero picks. Whenever im in the pick phase of a game i never really know what hero to pick unless it’s something really obvious. When you see pro players play (example: true sight) when the enemy team picks any hero, all of the other team emidiately shout at the same time what hero they should pick to counter that. They clearly know something i dont and i dont know if its only a matter of experience or im missing something else. Anyways, i thought it could make a good topic for this series which has been very helpful. Thank you.
Dotabuff has a "counters" section for each hero based on game results: www.dotabuff.com/heroes/abaddon/counters Counters can be effective for any number of reasons, e.g. Hero X is strong early game so Counter Y is used to disrupt their laning phase. Hero A has high armor but low health, so Hero B is a counter because of their magic Nukes. C is very mobile, D has a multiple disables. Etc. Etc. Then you need to consider synergy between the hero choices on your own team. Like, if everyone on your team is melee, last-picking Drow seems a bit of a waste. The pro players, however, are usually working off their research into their opponents, which is slightly different.
Use the DOTA+ App integrated in the program Overwolf. It will pop up in the drafting phase and tell best picks, counters and what heroes the enemy spams for example. You can learn a lot with this app. Other than that check what your team is lacking, e.g. stuns, wave clear, late game heroes, early game heroes. Or you check what the enemy team is lacking and pick accordingly, e.g. they have no stuns you can go for a hero with no build-in BKB, if they have a lot of magic damage you can go for Anti Mage, if they have no way to catch global you can go Tinker, if they have a Dazzle you can hard counter with Axe and his Culling Blade ability. Further improve your impact with item builds to make the game easier for you and your team: PA with evasion? -> Monkey King Bar or Silver Edge, Juggernaut with magic immunity in his spin? -> Abyssal Blade is your choice. And yes, it all comes down to expierence.
It's because pro players have thousands on thousands of hours of experience with the game. They understand every single heroes weaknesses and strengths and can address them when appropriate, so drafting is a really big deal for winning games for them.
Purge you magnificent bastard. This was a super informative and engaging video on FARMING. I can't think of anyone who could make this as fun and interesting as you.
Super helpful, I've been actively trying to learn this lately and it's not nearly as readily accessible as some of the other info needed, top notch purge :)
It would be helpful if you would mention exact timings. For creep respawns, when exactly to start pulling neutral creeps, hero respawn time during the game, and why and when it rises etc.
You can reliably stack at 53 second mark for all camps as long as you keep moving, as for pulling, just hit the easy camp after your lane creeps pass the tier 2tower attack range. Hope this helps
Exact timings wouldn't work for guides like these: 1) every hero interacts with every creep camp differently. 2) the timing changes with patch changes. Map changes, hero changes, creep changes, what spawns changes etc. 3) with the concept known, it's more reliable for players to try out timing in a self created lobby and spawning creeps. Hope that helps
Im 100% sure purge has a video on stacking. And please before making such statements. Do some research. You can't put everything into one video. The subject of this video is farming efficiency. and btw morph triplet, in this video anti mage stacked at 55 ;DD
damn this like basic that i known for playing years of dota, watching games, and etc. now u just can watch purge!! look up to your next vid purge cz there are more stuff in the dotess
hey purge. tell me something. WHY the freak is it that EVERYONE is buying bracers and wraithbands and null talisman right now in EVERY game. that wasnt the case for the past 6 years. i see the benefits. you are strong in ealygame. but why the fuck they started doing it now? it also would have been strong 6 years ago. did pro players started that trend? and if yes why now? i know you dont answer, you never do. but i rly like to know :/
you really shouldnt be listening to purge after 2-3k... watch his stream and see how bad his mechanics are and how he gets overly concerned with minuscule interactions... He only sees the Forrest for the trees.

Well you can download any of the numerous hero picker apps in google playstore to understand counter picking.
Even existing a lot of apps for this purpose, hero picking is still a very good subject to this Learn Dota's series.

Zach B it has been since the start of dota, where have you been?

Play a lot, focus on getting better and learning, and don't tilt. All you need is a 51% winrate and a lot of games to rise.
At which elo starts this to be important?...
How about sven
Ty..
