Thanks, your video was a really, really big help at getting that cover off. Only thing I'd add is that on an XC70, the Metal Grab bar mounting tab blocks the cover from coming up, So... All the steps are the same except that you have to remove all the screws holding in the center console, then shift the console up and back to get to the two bolts underneath the right side of the console that holds the grab bar mounting bracket in place.
I bought a shifter claw kit (AKA rocker arm) after my Geartronic shifter kept popping into manual. The guy at the shop rigged something in there as a temporary fix but I investigated until I could find the proper part. It was so cheap, too! Everything I could find said it took some strength to repair so I just dropped the kit off with my 2002 V70 XC when I brought it in for an oil change (because I have Olive Oyl arms). When he said he had never seen a part like that before, I came home and started digging around for instructions to email him. Now I'm glad I didn't bother to try it myself! (Although I bet I could do it.) Anywho, I found this video on the Volvo Forums (volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-xc90-9/2005-xc90-gear-selector-wont-stay-drive-65100) and just wanted to say thanks for posting. Also, I'm hoping that if I leave a comment with the words and phrases I searched that turned up nothing (e.g., shifter claw kit, rocker arm, etc.) then maybe someone else won't have to dig as deep to get help.
Thank you for this video, it was exactly what I needed! But now I can't get the cover to snap back on, any tricks for that part you can remember? I'm scared to force it back down and break something.
You're welcome!! My hope was that this video would help anyone else who was in the same situation that I was in. As far as reinstalling it, I don't remember there being anything special that I had to do to get it back on and unfortunately I no longer have the vehicle so I can't check for you. I'm sorry I can't help you more.
Yes!! Thank you! 6 videos and no one covers this part, the hardest part. Good man!
Nearly five years later and this video is still helping. thank you.

Good job.
What does that cable do?
I had a look into my gear section and discovered that it has cut.
I would love an answer ASAP. Thanks everyone
