Great video- the Trossachs Osprey Hide is fantastic. I was there end of July (2023) in the morning and three Ospreys came and caught fish and I got lovely pictures. Well worth a visit
we called in on our way to Mull - had good views of Kingfisher but the hide was too close to the pool for the one catch the Osprey made. Came in from above and out of sight so less than a second to try and grab a shot. Its got potential but need a bit of reorganising.
Thanks for your comment Keith, definitely agree with you. With the absence of a spotter you get little or no warning for a dive which makes it exceptionally challenging 👍🏻
another lovely video great choice of music keep up the amazing work this chnl is my fave out there keep it up Dan lets hope we can do a shoot u know where asap regards mike saltsman
I’m pleased to finally see a review on this place as I’ve been hearing some good things. I think it’s safe to stick to Aviemore this year as planned and I may give trossachs a try next year. Hopefully they sort out that foliage though. As always nice informative video here Dan, you’ve had a cracking trip
Hi Dan. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your commitment to your channel. I only wish I could get to all of the places you do... I've managed a few. The Trossach Osprey Hide is one that I have just done and I had a brilliant experience there this morning. Firstly, look at the price. You can spend the entire day in the hide for a lot less than the other Scottish hides charge for a 3 hour session!.. It's not perfect, but the owners are committed to improvong things with constructive feedback from patrons. I'll definitely be going back, although I do wish the hide was lower and they need to clear the rushes and weed from the pond. I was there from 04.30-13.00 and had 6 dives. Along with that, this is not a manicured site and plenty of other visitors were present. King Fisher were in all morning and loads of Grey Herron. Keep up the great work.
Thanks very much for your comment and support I really appreciate it. I’m glad that you had a successful experience at the Trossach Osprey Hide. It’s great to hear that it’s gone from strength to strength as I went in its infancy. You are absolutely right about the price and you can’t fault that. All the very best 👍🏻
Stunning images as ever Dan and once again inspirational. Looking to do a lot more wildlife photography when I finally retire at the end of the year and to visiting some of the places you have highlighted. PS a bit late now but perhaps look at Paul Fowlie’s Little Owls in Yorkshire- I did it last Friday and really enjoyed it but chicks have now fledged.
Thanks very much Clive, I actually visited Paul’s Little Owls a few weeks ago (video coming soon) I had a great time there. Thanks for your comment and suggestions of where to go, keep them coming I really do appreciate it 👍🏻
I'm going tomorrow this will be my third visit this month. I'm giving the early session a go. I have had success with the other two sessions I just need the osprey to catch a fish and keep a hold of it this time lol . Luv watching your videos keep up the great work 👍
Good video Dan, I was there last Friday evening, we had 2 ospreys coming in. Both successfully caught a trout, we also had a visit from a Kingfisher, (poor light, and a bit of a distance away, so no great images). It rained heavy from the time we went in the hide until the time we came out, we were lucky to get a 5 minute break in the weather when they both dived though. You have to be fast as your video shows. Both ospreys were the same ospreys we saw, blue / white 326 ( male from Argaty ), and the other osprey with just the BTO ring. As you say it is a new hide, and hopefully with a few tweaks here and there , it will be a brilliant hide to photograph ospreys diving. The prices are very reasonable as well, the only negative points I thought were the shelf in the hide, it just got in the way (too big), if it were half the size it would have been perfect. Also when using a telephoto lens and a bean bag I thought the window was a bit tight to get it through, if this window was made bigger it would have been perfect, and easier to see the osprey coming in etc. I agree with you about the grass / foliage needing trimmed down just outside the hide, we were lucky that both dives were in the middle of the pond, so this didn't effect our images. I would recommend this hide 100% though, these are just very small issues, and once rectified this hide will be a cracking place to visit. Great video though Dan, keep up the great work m8, next time you are up this way pop in to Balgavies to see the ospreys ;-).
I agree with you on all of your points. This does have the potential to be a very good hide producing some fantastic shots. I will definitely be checking out Balgavies Ospreys the next time I’m in the area, which won’t be long. Thanks very much for your comment it’s really appreciated, all the best 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography hopefully have a bit more success than Rutland. I was gutted with that. I’m heading here purely to break up a long journey that I’m dreading.
Cheers Derek, I was in the hide in the morning with a guy who did say to the owners about cutting the grass down. Hopefully they got it sorted. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Was there a month ago for the 10am to 1pm slot and not one osprey turned up so I'm now jealous of you getting these great shots. I need to go back when the young fledge and daddy is taking them for fishing lessons there should be quite a bit more activity at the pond.
Was wondering about going up here next week on annual leave. The foliage issue does look a pain but the cost vs Aviemore allows far more hours there, think you are special t on with the world potential! Think I'll go to just enjoy it. Nice video Dan.
Thanks for your comment. I would like to think that the foliage issue has been rectified, it’s definitely worth visiting and I have seen post’s recently of otters, beavers and kingfisher from the hide which is awesome 👍🏻
Thanks very much for your comment and I had not thought about it in that way. You are right that perched shots of Osprey are few and far between, all the best 👍🏻
Whoever said wildlife photography was easy has obviously never tried it, lol. Great film Dan, seems that last hide does indeed have potential, perhaps they’d appreciate your thoughts and input! 👏👍😀
It’s definitely not easy but I guess that’s what makes the rewards so satisfying. The hide definitely has the potential to be great and it’s somewhere I will be returning to in the future. All the best 👍🏻
I totally agree with you, this hide has bags of potential as I stated in the video and I’ve no doubt will become a great venue like other Osprey hides in Scotland.
Hi Dan, we are going to do an UK roundtrip next year. If you could just visit one hide for Ospreys on the trip would you take this or the one in Aviemore? My husband would love to get some diving pictures so I guess Aviemore would be the best option for us?
If I could only visit one, Aviemore hands down. The fact that it is a guided experience and Gordon knows the birds so well, really does give you the best opportunity of getting that all important dive shot 👍🏻
Hello Dan many goog pictures of osprey but the electric line is not dangerous for the birds? it'is not easy to make pictures with Z9 have a good journey
Thank you for your comment and question. In all honesty if I were visiting Scotland there’s only one place that I would visit and that would be the Isle of Mull, it’s a truly beautiful island and a wildlife photographers dream 👍🏻

Great video as per usual Dan, I feel your frustrations though!
Cheers Andy, that’s wildlife photography for you though isn’t it. Keeps us chasing that elusive perfect shot 👍🏻
Another great video Dan, can’t beat a perched Osprey, personally I prefer that to the thousands of in flight and catching a fish photos around 👍🏻
Thanks very much for your comment and I had not thought about it in that way. You are right that perched shots of Osprey are few and far between, all the best 👍🏻
I would be well chuffed with pics like that! I think your being hard on yourself!

The hide only opened in April of this year, I think the feedback is really important so that they can act on common concerns and improve if needs be.
I totally agree with you, this hide has bags of potential as I stated in the video and I’ve no doubt will become a great venue like other Osprey hides in Scotland.
Super video as usual ,I think all of us would be happy with the shots you don’t rate as they look brilliant to me 👏

Hello Dan
many goog pictures of osprey but the electric line is not dangerous for the birds?

I have to say I too was concerned about the electric wire, it also destroyed some images I got as a real distraction. Thanks for your comment 👍🏻

Lovely set of portrait images - pity about the foliage obscuring the view :(
Thanks very much for your comment. I think the foliage is an easy fix and I hope they’ve sorted it out 👍🏻
Ive been there a few times and you need to be on your toes for them coming in
Thanks for your comment Hamish, you certainly do have to be on your toes don’t you 👍🏻
