    That has to be one of the biggest bunkers that you two intrepid explorers have ever shown use. The number of mounts for electrical equipment or generators is breath taking. Well done for sticking at it, and finding the way in. I am really intrigued now, to find out exactly what went on there, was it just radar/radio or another one of the Germans "wonder weapons" project. Thank you for sharing this with us all, and well done once again. Stay safe and well my friends

    My ex-wife’s father was in the Luftwaffe. As the war was ending, he was in charge of a group of engineers and troops assigned to gather up everything salvageable and hide all in caves and bunkers. Then camouflage the entrances. They hid everything from arms, bombs, tanks, aircraft, ammunition, anything that could be reused. He said he knew man6 of them were still intact when he left Germany in 1953.

    Now that is an impressive bunker. Two stories deep underground, and with some very impressive, huge rooms. Most definitely there was something very special about that area, and about the equipment in that bunker. Those large square holes cut into the upper walls may have been a quick fix/late war method for fitting the ventilation pipes, rather than placing individual pipe holes in each wall. Most of the floor and wall damage was most likely post war, when the Allies, but more probably, the scrap metal merchants, stripped out the bunker. Would love to know the history of that place. What went on, and what secrets are buried in its history. Well done Team on finding it, AND, for scrambling through that opening to bring this amazing, and fascinating, bunker to us! Cheers to you all!

      @@WW2HistoryHunter If the Allies (UK) removed items from the bunker, there would likely be a record of the operation, including photographs. Have you considered searching at the UK National Archives at Kew? Also, the IWM might have some documentation and imagery.

    That's a massive bunker. Kudos to you for sticking at it until you found a way in, certainly worth it in the end! Sometimes you have multiple generators as a backup in case one of them fails, other times it is because it would be awkward to get the correctly larger sized unit in. The large square holes in the walls could be for cable / pipe passage, easy then to get the cabling though and seal in afterwards, same technique is used today in large construction.

    If this is anywhere close to the Hearts mountains I know what was being researched there. Col. Stronz had a Xray weapon. His research was done in a large hidden bunker,trucks brought equipment in at night. The area had a undisclosed airfield nearby. I also read the SS suddenly shut things down.

BBC Brown Boveri Mannheim and Elin Vienna made some (yet undiscovered) Betarons for the SS research department, leader of that research was the Norwegian Rolf Wideroe. If you ever return to that location please take a geiger counter with you and make some measurements.

    This is great and the denouement should be ever better! If the British took the equipment, I wonder where it was sent? There was the GPO Research Department at Dollis Hill in London where Tommy Flowers, an electronics expert worked, and who created the Colossus machine to help the codebreakers at Bletchley Park. Alternatively, the Government Code and Cypher School, the forerunner of GCHQ, could have taken receipt of the "gear." More questions than answers at the moment! Many thanks to both of you!

    WOW, that was surrounded by a lot of mystery. I can't help but think that the Germans removed the heavy special gear. They most likely planned and had the proper equipment needed to safely remove all of the valuable equipment. Was the steel plates on the floor to support the heavy equipment maybe? That was quite the bunker, the biggest yet maybe? Listen to your Dad EE and be careful. Don't want you hurt while on one of your adventures. Enjoyed your running commentary EE. Can't wait to see your very own video. Thank you HH and EE. Will await your return.

    Whoever buried this bunker did a very thorough job of gutting anything of value. Too bad there aren't building plans for it, would explain a lot. ?, Why do the locals not want to talk about this place...it's not like it's an active military site anymore...

    whatever was down here was definitely not standard equipment that's for sure, at 11:18 that looks like a generator plinth (on the lower level) but about 3-4 times normal size, so we can say whatever was down there needed a lot of power, like a lot of power, about a U-Boat engine worth of power (that plinth looks the right size for a 16 cylinder U boat engine anyway) we can also conclude from looking at the size of those holes in the walls and the floor that pass through that the ventilation/extraction system was also huge, so whatever it was also put out a lot of smoke/fumes they needed to vent for the workers, I'm wondering with this being a Radar site whether this was the main powerhouse for the rest of the site, three of four U-Boat engines or other large generators on the bottom level to power the rest of the complex hence the unusual amount of holes around the place that could have been used to pass cables through and run them to other buildings or positions like searchlights and such like as well as generating power for whatever was on the top level of the bunker.

    OH MY GRAVY!!! The size of that bunker and how you found it! Couldn't believe you were standing on top of it lol. A lot of electrical equipment for sure was used there; so that bunker must have had some type of special equipment that needed lots of "juice'. I am soooooo curious now on what the deal is behind this bunker. I'd be there right with ya digging into it all and finding out if I could. Just amazing on the number of rooms and the little areas above the rooms(the openings); maybe for extra ventilation for the special equipment? Oh my oh my, can not wait to hear the rest of this story!!!!! Flab-ber-gas-ted is saying just a little of how exciting it is!!!! Thanks and looking forward to knowing what is up with this bunker. Hello to EE. Stay well and safe

    Fantastic find! I would guess that the hole in the floor with the strange brick-mount was the output stage for the radar - the high-powered prototypes were water-cooled - and the strange square holes in the walls were for the waveguides - but just a guess, I would loved to have been there, I just love war-era electronics! Thanks again HH and EE!

    I believe the room with the blown out ceiling was for merely an opening made for exiting the equipment out of the lower floor to outside. Any equipment in the room would have been severely damaged by falling debris from the destruction of the roof.

  • @Bill53AD

    Fantastic find my friend, well done video. The panel in the floor are mor like ones in the mountains in Bavaria, Austria, Poland and Czech Rep. that were constructed for research and production. Better known as technical tunnels used for power cable and controls. All the cutouts at room top I am betting had metal duct work for cooling. It would be interesting to see if there were any Siemans records left that referenced what was shipped to that location. I am wondering if RADAR was not all being researched. The pedestal in the ceiling less room I have seen in a facility, I believe in Austria. Did you by chance get a close up of the pedestal? You are lucky the rain and snow over the last 70 years has moved and packed the dirt used to bury it from our eyes. Fantastic video job and hunting job. Of course, nothing like standing on the target while looking for it. Waiting for more of the area. Stay safe and well. EE keep doing your research.

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This bunker is pretty awesome and still gives us quite a few questions to solve i think. We shall for sure look more into the pedestal and other features we found there and some new research material we now have will hopefully shed ore light on what happened here. Thanks William :)

  • @donaldmesserschmidt3890
    @donaldmesserschmidt3890 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great adventure, another mystery, what happened here!?!? It certainly looks like they did not try to gently remove the equipment, but to blast through a wall and destroy some of the supporting floor to get out what they wanted to remove. I wondered if the square "holes" in the interior walls held some support steel for equipment that would be mounted along the walls and when the equipment was removed they pulled the steel out. Just such a surprise that such a large structure is now buried and forgotten and if you had not worked to find it it might never have been seen again! Thanks for taking us along with you!! I look forward to the next adventure! Stay safe and stay well!

    Omg what an immense bunker. It definitely looks like something was taken out of there in a hurry. They wouldn't have blasted the floor or that huge hole in the wall unless they needed to get something out quick. Well done for saving those frogs, I'm sure they're eternally grateful lol. Thanks to you and the ever enthusiastic EE. He's such a legend.
