Such an optimistic and loving interview! I absolutely adore Zola Budd and only have known about her for two months :) She reflects on her life with such kindness. She is the real deal. I would to love see her show up to the 2028 Los Angela's Olympics!

I have really come to respect and appreciate Zola Budd. I remember very well the 1984 Olympics. I lived in Los Angeles at the time as a young Ghanaian teenage boy in high school. The way she was treated felt personal to me as I too was dealing with similar issues of being an outside in America and in my local school/family. Over the last 10 years I have developed a following for middle distance running and have looked into the history and growth of the sport. Budd has been one of those people who I have gotten to think about a lot as an athlete and as a person who was very brave in her time. My respect for her strength and poise only grows as the years go on. Thanks for featuring her to those of us nearing 60, she was a fixture in our lives.

My childhood. She is another South African pride that united South Africans. Not only was the mini bus taxi named after her but the great Brenda Fasie released a hit song about the Zola Budd taxi and her in the video running bear foot. SA has come a long way.....i have hope in the young ones 🇿🇦

This woman is the reason I used to in trouble for walking bare foot and being pricked by thorns thinking I was smart. Nothing but love and admiration for her

It's hard to say who was the best ever, but she definitely was very good.

She has a hard-earned wisdom from being thrust into a no-win situation at such a young age. I'm glad she was able to come out of it on the other side.

What a brilliant conversation. Thank you for this interview. As is so often the case - the administrators are incompetent political cadre of the ANC. When can we just function as citizens and not as ideological pawns.

Now we are learning that western countries banned South Africa because apartheid, not what we have been told. Eye opening.

I was in high school during the height of riots in SA, matriculated I 1987. I was 24 in 1994. Didn't realize the narrative was different for others 😮😢

Yes, many took and take drugs. Also, it is unfair to women to allow men to compete as women. Zola is the true SAF 1500-meter record holder and more. Sometimes our friends were the drug takers too but today pretend they were clean athletes.
