i literally stole a car, put this station on, turned my tv up, and cruised around liberty city for like an hour everyday after school. good old days of gta 4.
As a new yorker who grew up in the 90s. They got it 95 percent of the way on this. Feels real as can be as a summer night on hot 97 when they played old school shit all night.
I bought GTA IV the day it came out...when I first heard Classics and knew DJ PREMIER was the host, I just cruised around Liberty City for an hour listening to his station. then in September of 2008, I met DJ Premier at a small club, and later that month saw GUGU perform at "A Tribute to John Coltrane"...it was a DREAM of mine to see Gang Starr perform (ever since hearing "Moment of Truth" on Dave Mirra's BMX 2). That was the closest I came to seeing Gang Starr, but being able to talk to them both (I even bought Guru's Jazzmatazz vol 4 straight thru him...and he gave me an extra cousin to give to my cousin).
I gotta say this radio got me into East hip hop, Illmatic, Ready to die, The coming, Infamous and enter the wutang 36 chamber great albums and I owe it all to this station
Yeah East coast rap is where it all started. My dad grew up in the south bronx (south bohan) where hip hop all started before it was even music. And my dad can rap and he's an amazing grafitti artist. In my opinion New York has the greatest street art, but some of the worst crime lmao
Thomas A I'm massively into East Coast Classic hip hop, weird thing is a lot of people in the UK listen too this today, it just goes too show that it resonates with people of all backgrounds worldwide, respect from England
swaggy p I don't agree with you, because this radio station is way too short and feels incomplete...when compared to the other LC radio stations. Also, I enjoy listening to all past and present GTA- radio stations...& don't have a personal for sure. 😊😉😁😃
The intro and intro song will always be king. This shit is so Liberty City🗽. Being a early 2000s kid, Liberty will always have a special place in my heart for the era it was in.

What I love about Classics and LCHC is they're so unique to New York in late 80s/early 90s. Another thing was mentioned in a NYHC documentary was how there were similarities with hip-hop and the punk, hardcore culture through tags and graffiti, both genres would feature artists who write their name in bubble text or such. Outburst is a good example of this, they weren't on LCHC but thankfully through GTA IV and spotify radio I have found so many more good songs, albums and bands. I can't appreciate enough how well Rockstar encapsulated New York through ambience and environment, cars and music. Sometimes it feels like I'm playing the game set somewhere between the 80s and 00s, not just 2008. But this and a Blista Compact doing front wheel burnouts around every corner throughout Broker, just 100% Also listen to IF99 when driving around Bohan (especially the north east area) in a Virgo or 70s saloon.
The older classic songs slash hip hop&Rap showed more respect than they do right now. All they talk about is money, killing, and girls, same old, couldn't say etc. But the songs now are great too, just pointing out the older showed more (respect). Not music wise. But sometimes now it is true that they talk about the same thing, money killing, and girls. I didn't here that much of that in classic etc. And beat I think so.

Its word is bond not word is born
im irish so what does word is bond actually mean?
John McCarthy Easiest way to explain it is that it is a promise or guarantee depending on context. Just another way of promising or guaranteeing something to someone or said person making you promise/guarantee something.
Example:
"Are you sure you can get those spare parts in by Monday?"
"My word is bond, brotha."
Or:
"Is there going to be a 40% off sale on all games on Sunday, like the commercial said?"
"Definitely man, we don't false advertise or bait & switch."
"Your word is bond, dude. I'm holding you to your promise."
