On the following Saturday after the match at Molineux, England were away to then West Germany in a European Championship match. How much influence that had, I am not sure. Much more likely then head of Football League, Alan Hardaker, did not like Revie! Revenge by Hardaker..? Also Wolves had a great run in Europe, so rearranging materials matches may not have been easy.
I was there in South Bank with mates , we couldn't get in the North Bank. We got in over the Wall in the Alley. The Official Capacity in 1972 for the South Bank was 32,000 , originally 35,000 , for all ticket matches. There was no standing room , so we got up the Floodlight. Having been in Molineux for all Ticket Matches in 60s v Everton and Man Utd with 54,000 , we thought attendance was nearer 60,000 on the night , close to the 61,000 record for a Liverpool Match in 1939. We didn't see a lot of trouble after the Match.
I was there 15 yr old with my dad..on the South Bank..my only recollection is quite a vivid memory of a big gate breaking open and people streaming in and of being in a big crushing crowd..can’t recall anything of the game itself
I was there that night. They crushed all the United fans in one end and I am surprised that no one was badly injured. It was the FA who caused this chaos. An absolute scandal 😟😟😟
I am a leeds fan and was born in Wolverhampton..i was there in 1972 in the south bank with 2 other leeds fans , i remember how wolves players got away with murder that night leeds should've had 2 penalties before wolves scored, i remember leeds lining up to defend a free kick and wolves player jim mccalliog went behind Allan Clarke who was in the wall and kicked him the ref and linesman apparently didn't see the incident (surprise surprise)
I'm glad you said about McCalliog because I remember the same incident. The most obvious red card nowadays! I went with a guy from the office and we both walked to the ground but he decided he wasn't going to try and get in. I'm not sure now how much of the match I could see because of the packed crowd, but it's quite chilling to think of the Hillsborough comparison. Funnily enough, I don't recall any real difficulty getting out of Wolverhampton. I think we must have parked some distance from the ground but on the road you would use to get to whichever motorway it was. I don't think it was too much after midnight when we got back to Leeds, but it's so long ago now!
It's true, 30,000 casuals, all in Stone Island, no other fans, just 30,000 hooligans in a crowd of 53000. They came on a normal train so as to not raise suspicion, it had 650 carriages. As it pulled into Wolverhampton, the end carriage was still in Stoke on Trent ...
It was jack Charltons birthday and the impossible numbers of United fans clamoring( with even more wolves ones ) to get in, were singing happy birthday. I drove up from college in Cheltenham (my first match was in 1956 ,I am 78) ...they were actually sat on the floodlights and the stands. .at 6ft3. I still couldn't see ,so at half time I went out to the nearest pub and joined the melee there ..I learnt later about the disputed penalty..at the time don revie had.a vendetta with alan hardaker at the foot.assoc. so anti Leeds feeling in the corridors of power was rife..for 10yrs the atmosphere wherever we went was just incredible. Comparable only to the beetles..
Few years later the south bank was half and half when the hooligan element had properly kicked off by the end of the game it was 3/4 Wolves and the Leeds fans were coming out on stretchers they got absolutely battered don’t think they’ve ever forgot it
They weren’t the tallest floodlights, those were at Boothferry Park, Hull. Leeds had 2 pylons they built at that height when they redeveloped Elland Road as Revie had been impressed when Leeds played Sunderland in a Cup replay at Boothferry Park.Man City equalled the height at Maine Road. But there were 6 pylons at Boothferry Park. They were the tallest pylons in Europe.
This is not true, it’s fake news. I was there on the night in the south bank. Yes there was 30000 in the south bank, but only 2000 Leeds fans were in there separated by a strong police line. I was able to watch the whole match, also when I returned home I watched it on news at ten and saw myself in the crowd celebrating wolves victory. Get your facts before you make nonsense statements!
To be honest mate I think you are thinking of the wrong Wolves - Leeds fixture. Leeds brought about 30,000 for this fixture, at most, the official gate was given as 53,000 but there were at least 60,000 in there. Leeds had about 80% of the South bank but there were ordinary Wolves fans in there on the flanks especially - as you can see when the goals go in. The North Bank was the Wolves home end back then.
I was in the South Bank that night and it was Leeds fans only. Packed because back of the stand was kicked in letting in more supporters and barriees below eventually breaking under the pressure. MOT.
@@johnwinter8672 mate it was probably 80% Leeds but certainly not all. It may have appeared to have been 100% Leeds from the core of it. The South bank held about 30,000 but as you say it was rammed. You can see some Wolves celebrate when Wolves score in the South Bank but they were just ordinary fans, mainly on the flanks and at the front. There were probably 2,000 - 3,000 Wolves fans in there.
Service crew in 1972???? There were no crews or firms back then, away fans just turned up in their thousands and entered whichever terrace turnstiles they wanted, policing football matches and crowd segregation was nothing like it is now back then, more often than not it was just weight of numbers when kops were taken, clashes were inevitable when this occurred at grounds up and down the country, been to matches back in the day when away fans were in the ground early on the home end and then the home fans turned up and fighting sometimes went on all throughout the match, it was not that uncommon for 100 to 200 arrests at big games and numerous fans injured!
Now I could be a little autistic here, and your comment is meant as sarcasm, but if you are serious, then the voiceover is very obviously computerised, and not real.
A mate of mine went to a chat night in Luton and Billy Bemner was a speaker. In 74/75. Spurs had to beat Leeds to stay up and send Luton down. My mate said to Bremner I’m a Luton fan, and Bremner said before you say anything, yes we did, at one point I said to Steve Pratt, you know you are going to win but don’t take the piss. Spurs won 4 . 2 and stayed up and sent Luton down. I was gutted we had a great 2nd half to the season. Carlisle and Chelsea also went down. Luton’s history could have been so much better, who knows. Leeds were a great team but very hard to admire them

I was there as a Wolves fan in the North Bank. It was a. Incredible night - there was another four years later vs Ljverpool which was even worse!
Can you imagine today, a club putting up with a title decider two days after a cup final! Awful by the football League really.

Leeds being quite modest with their numbers here. They usually have at least 50,000 inside a ground and 75,000 locked out.

Don’t forget the young under 5s in 20 trains behind all in CP
Bollox you was still in to 3 star jumpers and baggies them days
In 1973, Leeds played Wolves in FA Cup Semis. Leeds won 1-0. Goal scored by Bremner....
I was there at Main Road, there was one hell of a scrap in the stand when Leeds scored!
30,000? That can't be right. Leeds never take less than a million anywhere.
It was jack Charltons birthday and the impossible numbers of United fans clamoring( with even more wolves ones ) to get in, were singing happy birthday. Can’t have all been service crew even if it existed back then
Amazing how often Leeds had to play 2 days, 3/4 games in a week after Finals during the Revie years.
Iwas there as a 14 year old our bus was trashed
Service crew in 1972. Yeah right 🙄
If they were going for the title they would have had thousands there . Maybe not 30.000 but it would of been huge for title
Few years later the south bank was half and half when the hooligan element had properly kicked off by the end of the game it was 3/4 Wolves and the Leeds fans were coming out on stretchers they got absolutely battered don’t think they’ve ever forgot it
The leeds service crew didn't exist until the mid 1980s....
In the early 70’s the Leeds fans were called The City Service Chain Crew,I know this for a fact 🤙🏾
Then it changed to The Leeds Service Crew.
A gang of 30,000 , in a firm f off naka brain he talkin total pish
Before 1980 just proper
You're talking about vyt very young team leeds
@anthonyo.6084 so wrong are you a bird
40 000 Leeds more bullshit
I was there I don't remember that many

Sounds more likely
Perhaps there were 200, 000 Leeds

You could always rely on Leeds to raise your spirit the treble 😂1970 Colchester 71 Wolves 72 Sunderland 73 and funniest of all Paris 1975
Don Revier😂

Shame the narrator appears to know little about football, illustrated by his inability to pronounce several words correctly

Wasn't that the game when leeds players asked wolves to bring them down in the box
