I've got a 2012 Td4 GS .... And I've been impressed so far .... Excellent fuel economy and comfort ... I've driven lots of cars over the years but this has been superb ... The engine pulls well and cruises very well on motorway ...
My dad's car. Diesel, automatic gearbox, light leather interior.. It pulls very good and drives so smooth. I dont drive it very often, but when I do I keep reminding myself those are superb vehicles. bad thing is parts are expensive :( But driving it its been a pleasure always 😍
I was lucky enough to acquire a 2012 HSE 3.2 last year with 80,000 miles on it. It had a sluggish fuel pump that caused starting issues and it had a sudden engine oil cooler leak that required disassembly of many things, but otherwise it’s been fantastic and it is a magnificent vehicle to drive. I prefer it over every other SUV I’ve driven it its class (X3 tries too hard to be a sports sedan, GLK and Q5 are excellent but tight on interior space and have no off-road abilities). It drives and rides like a larger LR but doesn’t come with the complexities and hideous upkeep costs.
Got a 2008 GS. It's great other than restrictive boot size! Drives like a car but has a commanding elevated seating position! Fantastic for snow/ice/mud etc. great car-having had an old 1998 Freelander xei. 2nd hand -a lot of car for average car money!
Well, driving one of these for the since 2011, I can confirm the 120-ish mp/h or 190-ish km/h top speed. It does feel really cheap inside the cabin, and the fuel economy is horrible (around 16 liters per 100 km, in city). But where it blows you away is the off-road capability. It has a factory ground clearance, greater than an VW Amarok's, and makes serious off-roaders' jaws drop with it's capabilities(not because it's better than their's but because a mountain goat under a pony's skin (I know, not the best metaphor)).
Finally what I needed to know.. My current Td4 05 feels really cramped.. it actually puts me in a bad mood I try to ignore when driving.. Cracked up when picking virtual school child off of concrete.. 5:39 APMSL Again..
Land Rover must of widened the choice or improved their engines. My Fr 2 is 2.2 auto 190BHP diesel. 2011 plate. Love it to bits. Leather seats far more comfortable than the cloth ones my 05 TD4 series 1 has. Mine only has 49k on the clock and cost me just over 13k. First vehicle ever I have owned with A/C, discovered during a heatwave 2019. Hurrah.
I am thinking of upgrading my 05 TD4 for a L R or FR 2.. is the clutch still hydraulic on the FR 2s ? Well my 05 TD4 is on 17" wheels and the Freelander I upgraded to is on 19" wheels so obviously it will measure more upwards.. My only minor gripe is I wish the SD4 Sport LE I have had armrests and an actual spare wheel and tyre.
I agree, it certainly looks like a Ford, or at least, Ford influence in styling. Thanks god the technic is not. Otherwise, who knows at first moment, that the diesel engine is from Peugeot/Citroen? Today it is all so global, it's a shame.
I test drove both vehicles on the same day I went for the Land Rover .4 years later my Land Rover is now worth £3,000 more than I paid for and yes it's been very reliable .
The original Freelander was based on a much modified Rover 200 floorpan so this is essentially a stretched version of the same. The reliability of the old version was terrible. The costs of owning this latest model are beginning to stack up for owners as it ages - check the review sites if you don't believe me - e.g. steering rack failures on a model of this modest vintage is bordering on criminal.

I insist, this tv show is the british version of top gear-usa, NO CHARISMA!!!!!!!!
Do you have one? it is of course a brilliant vehicle, not until you hit 60k and you need to change the master cylinder, slave cylinder, the radiator, rear shocks, not even my old defender was so unreliable in a span of six months
I've got a freelander 2 the bastards engine just seized no reason totally fucked. In all fairness its 10 years old but we have owned it from day 1 always had what ever needed doing done. Even the garage cant figer out why its seized. Other than that it has given no problems.

Want a good off roader? Buy the defender... best off roader ever!

Nice i like it. Cant wait to see what they are really like in years to come also fitted with mud tyres or off road tyres.
Hi, does the 2007 freelander 2 gs td4 have seat heightening?
I bloody hope it has seat lowering after my 05 TD4 driving position verges on S & M ..
Yes

why would any american prefer freelander over jeep grand cherokee? just wondering .. ..

Bell end what a little more of the range
Nope, I just dondt think, that the Freelander II is a re-kited Ford Escape, or did I maybe missunderstood you?
the presentation is disgusting, the tester is such a tool. nice Landy though :)

By far the worst Land Rover I ever owned
You obviously can't drive fella. It's a brilliant vehicle.

@@mariob80 I've hit 127K in my SD4 HSE and have not had to replace any of that stuff. Maybe you had a dud.
Gents, I've got my Freelander diesel 2.2, 160 hp since 2013, already hit 169000 km, replaced many parts, but keep falling in love with it

Very unreliable vehicles
