The most underrated LR by far. Got a 2009 SE and absolutely love it. Generally does everything well. A reliable, comfortable cruiser which achieves a shade over 40mpg motorway mileage. Great in winter if fitted with decent tyres and according to the guys at the Yorks L R Experience (which we attended earlier this year) the lowly Freelander 2 is their ‘go-to’ in Snow and Iced conditions! Easy to service and parts readily available. Stick to regular maintenance, especially oil/haldex, filters and tyres and look after it properly. What’s not to like 👍
had mine remaped for fuel economy now does 48mph motorway , added bonus went from 158bhp to 185bhp,2009 freelander(once got 50mph Sheffield to Nottingham driving like a saint) 29-30 round Town,Excellent video by the way👍
This video helped me a lot as I am to go for a Freelander 2 after selling my Toyota Auris Hybrid 1.8 2018 model as I prefer SUV and make Landrover with experience of my previous Freelander 1, year 2001.
Love my 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE which I bought second hand with a full service history, recent cambelt, water pump, brakes and discs and a 2 year warranty. On about the second trip the low pressure fuel pump failed £900 fitted. 9 months later - Haldex unit failed £2800! I have also replaced the automatic gear shift with an eBay purchase as the led indicator lights weren’t working. Everyone keeps telling me that these are the best Landrover but I had a Velar for a year and the only problem was a rear door handle failing to pop open. I plan to keep the Freelander but if another major item goes then I’ll think again.
To be fair, the Velar was newer and the FL2 s are old now and it's normal stuff goes wrong on them. Your experience should serve unwary buyers well. Don't buy old 2nd hand cars without having a budget for replacement parts. The best justification is that it's cheaper than buying a new Discovery sport or ... Velar!!
I have now Freelander 2. Before I had Freelander 1. The car is used mostly in Lapland in extreme conditions many times ever year, including very low temperatures, lots of snow and storms. The car is super good in harsh conditions!
It has been very reliable for 4 yrs that we had it. There have been moments in storms and very cold weather in tundra far away from any civilization when a failure in the car would have been a catastroph.
I have my Freelander 2 for over 3 years now it’s a 2014 XS Van it done over 186000 miles and the only issue I’m having is the Haldex, I had it serviced last year with all of the clutch plates changed and now the dreaded dragging and shuddering is back and at the moment I have the fuse pulled out so the Haldex is not working so only front wheel drive. Other than that it is bulletproof, I service it every 10000 miles and have no other issue whatsoever.
I bought a 2009 a year ago and I don't think I've had 1months trouble free driving out of it. I gave it a full service when I got it and found the Haldex wasn't working so a strip down and full service got that going. Heated windscreen doesn't work, turbo intercooler pipes replaced as they split, replaced throttle body as the nylon cogs stripped, power steering feed pipe rusted through and after market replacement kept blowing off so genuine lr one fitted £140. Sat screen radio and parking sensors packed up then started working again just waiting for it to happen again. Coming home on Christmas day car went into limp mode. My code reader said no faults or any pending, was told it could be turbo boost sensor so checked that which was broken but not sure if I did that getting it off so changed turbo boost sensor £184😮from jsf. Still in limp mode. Thought I'd just try and use the erase codes function on my code reader even though it was showing no codes and bingo it's back to normal but for how long. It's a lovely car to drive when it's working properly. its had an egr delete and boosted to 260hp.goes like a rocket but only 34mpg. Maybe due to the extra boost. Would anyone buy this car knowing what trouble I've had with it?.... I doubt it. My old Toyota surf which I've owned for 10 years which is over 30 years old knocks spots off the lr for reliability.
OMG!!!! sounds like you got a bad one. I also read on some forums of the problems some ealier models have had. that's why I went for a new one, as well as for the emissions laws in Barcelona. What a pity. Hope you manage to sell it on and get some money back.
I have a LR 2003 has2.5 V-6 gas or petrol, inherited it after my Dad passed runs really good and thinking of keeping inside is clean but I'm looking to upgrade a phew things though the top paint has failed so I'm looking for new paint it's a beautiful darkEpson Green almost like British racing Green and my inside roof lining needs re gluing and maybe change the lights with LEDs thanks just for now.

Firstly,the FL2 doesn't have low range of course. Command shift is automatic with manual options and found in conjunction with Low range in models such as the Discovery. Put it in low range and either just leave it in automatic or go to manual. Start in first and then move up depending on needs. Is that what you meant?
@martinrowson8275 I'm not perfect, but the problem was that the Haldex was broken and I only had 2 wheel traction. The FL2 is great but has a sensitive 4x4 system you need to maintain and have money ready to repair

Es bastante caro y normalmente hay que comprar uno normal. Luego tienes los problemas del sistema de inyectores, etc si es el motor diésel. Si uno es consciente de los problemas potenciales y se deja algo de dinero para las reparaciones y mantenimientos, pues adelante. Pero, dependerá del historial del coche.
these cars are haldex based 4x4 so really most of the time they are FWD, if the system detects wheel slip OR you have a special most engaged then the 4x4 haldex system is engaged th-cam.com/video/m4_EIULHP0I/w-d-xo.html I have the same 2.2D Auto FL2 and its SO easy to drive off road, even in the recent snow you can drift it around in the snow, stamp on the brakes and come to a controlled stop etc - it does exactly what you tell it to do, really impressive piece of kit with 4 season tyres on!

I'm really doubting your comments as this is a completely different comment than on another Freelander 2 video you posted on. Different parts and different mileage. As I said in the other one you clearly don't like paying for general maintenance items so get a push bike. Problem solved. Plus if you prefer Japanese rubbish that IS a pile of scrap then good luck.

Autotrader gives it 4 out of 5 stars for reliability. I love my 2008 model and only 53000 on the clock.

Yes, I'd say it's the least bad!! The older they get the more problems I hear about them, but that's the same for practically all diesels.
