I plant my avocado trees the same way but instead of using the cactus mix I use decomposed granite that I get from the brickyard down the street. The DG is about $5 a bag so I'm not sure if that's cheaper than the cactus mix. And the trees really thrive in the DG, avocado trees love DG. I got lazy though and the last tree I planted I didn't build my usual circular planter made from landscaping blocks but just ordered a galvanized metal circular planter off Amazon which made things much easier.

Thank you for sharing. I have heard others use decomposed granite and they have told me their avocado trees thrive in it and may more than they would in the cactus mix. I really have to try out decomposed granite one of these days, I have heard great things about that soil composition. I am a bit lazy and it is easy to find the cactus mix where I am at. Thank you for sharing and thank you for watching!

Any updates on how the Reed is doing?
Also a mound would have likely worked for the Reed. Would have provided the proper drainage.
    Thanks for sharing

Hi Ben, the Reed is doing really well. I just put a whole bunch of avocado leaves on top of the Reed and I think it likes its new home! Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching!

@@johnnysworld-backyardorchardof course this tree is doing WELL (get it??). Anyway, was there a newer update on this tree? I glanced through the videos and couldn't see it.

I really enjoyed this video and the smooth jazz accompaniment. Great tip with the mounding up of the Avocado tree. That brick mound looks very nice too. Thanks for sharing.

That's a big investment in potting mix! It better give you lots of avocados.

    • @Avo7bProject
      @Avo7bProject ปีที่แล้ว +2

Looks like 128 or more paver stones plus all that soil. I'll guess it was around $400 of investment. But it is a large fruiting tree, not just a small seedling - and went into an area of the yard where he had doubts. It made sense to prepare thoroughly and carefully.

He should have made his own soil using his native soil with added leaves compost gypsum sand etc . That bagged soil turns to trash once it breaks down

  • @TropicalGardenGuy

    Looks good Johnny,
Cant tell in the video….Did you placed the bottom of the rootball higher than the existing soil level ? . That soil below could have the root rot still in it.
It just me, but I like the irrigation water in raised beds to flow down into the old soil below. I use drip to minimize run off…. Of course as always… Your mileage may vary!

Hi Jeff, thank you for sharing your experience, I did replace the top soil with new soil before I planted my avocado tree. Actually, I got the idea to do this based on what you did with your multi grafted avocado trees. Thank you for the idea! Thank you for sharing and thank you for watching!

Johnny, have you ever done a video on your “fairy garden” that’s featured in your video intro’s? Interested in learning more about.

Great effort, monumental! I hear you can test the drain-factor of your soil by filling a hole with water where you want to plant and if it drains within 24 hrs. then your soil has good drainage. ( Mine usually drains faster than that and is clay soil.) I've heard too in a Fla zone nursery video that Asian persimmons have delicate roots. I think I will try an American variety for my first persimmon tree. Good video, Johnny!

Why, because of organic content rotting or because of nutrients being depleted?

try this, before you plant that or you can replant it again, burn that area that should kill all the pathogens.
