The Cure album Disintegration' is an excellent and unique album. Robert Smith's songwriting and lyrics are great. They had their own style and sound that made them stand out.

Robert Smith gave this song to his then-fiancée Mary Poole (who had been his high school sweetheart) as a wedding present. I read somewhere that he meant it to be just for her, and it took her a year and a half to convince him to release it to the public. They're still married, 35 years later😊

There was always a lot of "romance' in Roberts songs...and his unique style and voice. We can all honestly say there is no one else like him or "The Cure".. "Love Cats" by the Cure is also a fantastic song.

I absolutely love this song. Definitely my favorite of theirs. Smith's voice has kind of a dark but whimsical quality to it that as you say, fits the music well. Love love this band....Love The Doors too...since the late 70's. I can see the correlation between the two groups for sure.

The entire album is great, the song "Disintegration" is a must listen.
I loved it when The Cure came out with this. It has that killer 80s sound and much more pop oriented. And that great mysterious, trippy sound.

Only The Cure could have written such an overt love song but make it so gloomy and dark a same time.
So interesting how the foreboding music is juxtaposed against the loving lyrics. Very different feel compared to Just Like Heaven.
Shawn, Gothic Metal and Goth are two entirely different genres. The Cure aren't Metal at all.
Yeah, more meant Gothic rock if anything, but metal is what came out
