Yes, Kid-A is their masterpiece. And 'Amnesiac' is a very good album as well. Yours is a ranking virtually identical to mine which is rare on TH-cam. Cheers.
When Kid A first came out, I loved it to the point of obsession. I'd tell my friends it was my favorite Radiohead album, and they would say things like "What?? OK Computer and The Bends are their best albums." Those are amazing albums too, but there is something otherworldly about Kid A. Thanks for this, Mazzy!
Thank you for showing the deluxe editions. They look stunning. My own interest in Radiohead sparked with Kid A, the first three albums are yet to ingratiate themselves, but everything from 2000 onwards is magnificent. Their influences often stray from what might seem obvious. Worth searching for is their great versions of Elvis Costello's I'll Wear It Proudly & New Order's Ceremony.
Great ranking video Mazzy! Thoughtful and I can't believe I didn't pick up those special editions with all that gorgeous artwork. I've never been a big britpop fan, and their two first albums went unnoticed for me. OK Computer took me a while to get into. I always felt that Thom Yorke was just a Jeff Buckley impressionist, but the Kid A came along and I was completely hooked. In hindsight I'd say objectively that OK Computer is their magnum opus. It's not a bad song and everything is in it's right place. But personally I'd put Kid A, Amnesiac and A Moon Shaped Pool in the Top 3.
Hello from Montreal, it’s great when you can get your kids into some of your favourite music and vine versa. Thank you for your stories and passion for music. Take care
i've said it before, but i'll say it again...i love how you take in the entire package, knowing just how important the cover is, along with the music inside...working on my new album now, i'm still equally conscious of all the parts together...and you remind all of us...good on ya'...peace always my friend...rocky
Such a treat to have a new Mazzy video Saturday morning. I'm hot and cold on Radiohead. Suggestions: ->Something on Son Volt ->In depth on Joni Mitchell albums ->The very rare record by The Fool, produced by Graham Nash ->Me and My Arrow song and animation, Harry Nilsson ->Sigur Ros "Everything in it's Right Place" is astoundingly gorgeous, and was in the awesome film Vanilla Sky. Cheers Mazzy!
Hi Mazzy. I was one of the fans who was alienated after the first three albums. I really liked Pablo honey, absolutely loved the bends, one of the best records of the 90s in my humble opinion and I really loved OK computer. I listened to in rainbows and Kid A but I really struggled with them.
Hey Mazzy. Great video, especially as I'm a huge Radiohead fan. I really couldn't argue with your order. What I would say is that, personally, I do tend to change my orders! E.g. Rolling Stones best album for me has been Exile on Main Street, and then this year I've changed my opinion. This year is Beggar's Banquet! My point is that it's a fine line with brilliant bands/artists and some of their best albums. The other point which I totally agree with you is the brilliant and amazing album artwork that artists/bands have on their album covers. As you clearly appreciate, there's nothing more amazing than buying a new album with an unique cover plus inlay. I was in my 30s when the streaming generation came about and really missed having a new album in my hand! Now that for the last 10 years I have been rekindled my love for vinyl again, and looking at amazing new ( & re-edition ) album covers, it's great appreciatifng both the music and the artwork when you buy a new album. Anyway post over...have a great Xmas & NY and keep up the great work! 👍🏻
I'm digging these album reviews as you are so in tune with these bands and artists... In this case, I appreciate most your sentiment about connecting your memory to those shared experiences with your son... I too am fortunate to have those experiences with my own son... Thx for this, I do not own any Radiohead and have maybe been somewhat 'intimidated' with where to start with them... This helps so much!
Really enjoyed that! There's no tougher ranking since these are nine seriously excellent studio albums, and the one playing "right now" is always going to sound especially brilliant. Kid A, OK Computer, Amnesiac, and In Rainbows are monumental popular music works that very likely will be significant for a long, long time. Bravo!
Great list, and that's the thing for me about Radiohead, no bad albums but everyone's rankings will be pretty different. They're a very personal band, IMO. Mine would me, from least favorite to best: King Of Limbs, Pablo Honey, A Moon Shaped Pool, Amnesiac, In Rainbows, Hail To The Thief, Kid A, and best of all OK Computer. More of these rankings, please.
Nice list Norman, i agree, with those picks. Kind of same story with me, my 2 nephews and I saw the KId A tour and 2 other tours (Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief tour's) Great bonding experiences i wil cherish. We loved the guitar based albums, they went to synth based after Hail to the thief for our liking but I got all the albums. Pablo Honey would've been my last of the ten. Radiohead's B-Sides were amazing during the Bends and Ok Computer, I have the expanded cd's with all the b-sides. Which i later gave to my nephews! All the best Mazzy!
#1 The Bends #2 ok computer #3 Kid A Don't care for the rest verging on pretentious. 90s pink floyd. And I love pink floyd Amnesiac put me to sleep. Nice video Greetings from liverpool
Glad to see a Radiohead ranking and agree with your views on design, typography and artwork. As a graphic designer and illustrator myself, I’m always attracted to album artwork. If you haven’t, you need to check out a pianist named Christopher O’Reily, True Love Waits album. He does beautiful renditions of Radiohead songs. BTW, have you heard Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings perform Blackstar? Awesome.
I really enjoy your ranking videos, Mazzy. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands so was especially happy to see this. I’ve only seen them live twice. The first time was opening for REM (another favorite band - how about a ranking video of their discography)? The second time I saw them was their “In Rainbows” tour - I rank that concert as one of the best I’ve ever seen. It was an assault on all the senses in the best possible way, absolutely fantastic! My ranking, for what it’s worth - 1) Kid A or In Rainbows 🤷🏻♀️ 2) In Rainbows or Kid A 3) Ok Computer 4) A Moon Shaped Pool 5) The Bends 6) Amnesiac 7) Hail to the Thief 8) Pablo Honey 9) King of Limbs ✌🏼
The Bends is probably my favorite. I bought Pablo Honey when it came out because I thought Creep was the best song on the radio by far. I was disappointed in the album though.
Great to see your ranking of these Mazzy. Thinking about it, I'd be hard pressed to put Radiohead albums in any kind of order; they are just ALBUMS I LOVE and ALBUMS I DON'T LISTEN TO AS MUCH. :-) Your #9 got me really interested in your listing. I think Thief would be the 3rd spot for me... and come to think about it, was actually the first Radiohead album I listened to in full. Fake Plastic Trees is such an incredible song > acoustic, bass, and Yorke's haunting vocals is all it needs. Really cool to see those deluxe boxes... never saw those.
Have to say that your list is almost identical to mine. When I bought Kid A and played it for the first time I was stuck on How To Disappear Completely. I repeated and repeated it. It’s a truly astonishing piece of music and a good example of the genius of Jonny Greenwood and his Ondes martenot. I feel quite alone in loving Radiohead -I don’t know anyone else who understands them. Thanks for a great review.
Thanks for the video Mazzy! Love your ranking videos (Kate Bush). Skeptical towards the upcoming "Kid A Mnesia" which has both albums cut on single LPs, albeit with "half speed remastering". Guess we are helpless and just buy it.
I much prefer their newer albums. The early stuff was entertaining but lacks the complexity and interest of their newer works. Radiohead gets better with age.
Great to see you rank Radiohead , I saw Radiohead in Wolverhampton , UK, with my brother years ago , amnesiac period , , I bought Bob Dylan new album , Rough and Rowdy today , presently listening to it ( vinyl) , murder most foul , never heard anything like it , to me it's so good , so emotional, take care , hope you read this
100% agree that the sound in their later albums can be described as modern psychedelic. I also hear it with Yorke’s solo stuff. The music takes on an ethereal element for sure. If you allow it to it will take you on a journey.
Hey Mazzy - great to see you talking about Radiohead. I treasure their albums and play them regularly. Thank you too for mentioning Stanley Donwood whose contribution is intrinsic and considerable. Seeing them in a small London venue about 3 years ago was very special for me. You should get the 45rpm vinyl version of Amnesiac which is still available I think. Or maybe you are waiting for the forthcoming re-release of Kid A and Amnesiac? I'm not sure I could rank them personally - different albums are right for different moods from my perspective. Anyway, thanks again. D
You know I could not show these records without shining a spotlight on Donwood. I’ll have to check out the Amnesia 45. It somehow passed me by. I did preorder the upcoming Kid A Amnesiac combo. Thank you David 🌸
9 Pablo Honey (5/10) 8 The King Of Limbs (8/10) 7 Hail To The Thief (9/10) 6 In Rainbows (9/10) 5 Amnesiac (9/10) 4 OK Computer (10/10) 3 The Bends (10/10) 2 A Moon Shaped Pool (10/10) 1 Kid A (10/10)
#1 The Bends #2 ok computer #3 Kid A But could change on another day depending on my mood, the Bends is my most played album ever so has to be #1 right, love those expanded editions so thanks for sharing
I am terribly conflicted by Radiohead. I happened to be in the right place and right time to have seen them many times early in their career (almost all as support slots) and they were awful - bombastic and overblown. Their subsequent reinvention from the Bends onward is to their everlasting credit - they will never be lumped in with the vulgar Britpop. As you have said their willingness to push the envelope is to be applauded but it has made for patchy content (indeed, I think OK Computer is inconsistent). Having said that I can only agree with your conclusion - Kid A is without any doubt their best record. I'm not sure they've come close to it since. Please keep producing this sort of content - it is very much appreciated.
OK Computer is their magnum opus and a cohesive, cinematic/story through line..concept record. To me it’s the modern song soundtrack for a movie like Bladerunner
its ... A Moon Shaped Pool. POOL Mazzy :) i kid (A), i kid (A) The fact that you even know who Travis is, warms my heart (Big Fran fan here) The Man Who is one of my favorite albums ever
For a band that I had written off has a "one hit wonder" after the saturation of CREEP, which was a post and quasi (on many levels) SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT. I would have never thought that Radiohead would become one of the all-time great artists. Kid A broadened their fan base more than alienated it. When I saw the Kid A tour, my girlfriend and I were DJing a Britpop night, we probably handed out 10-20 flyers to a thousand ecstatic fans after the gig. No one was interested in Britpop and no one was there to see the CREEP version of Radiohead.
Awesome video, love reading was dearly, your list is pretty close to what I’d rank them at, In Rainbows, Kid A, Ok Computer are the biggest three, A moon shape Pool to me is right in there as a modern day classic, I also agree about the psychedelic aspects you referred to, they definitely are. That in rainbows copy you have is amazing! Great video!
Mazzy great review you were are spot on with number one Kid A that change the game on albums big time the artwork amazing . I still trip out how they came up with the band name “Radiohead”from a Talking Heads song from the album a Telling Stories .take care Lovellandrew
One of the best and most important bands ever .....and still relevant today! Like you say, none of these records are bad, but I think Pablo Honey and The Bends are the least interesting. If Radiohead had stopped developing after 1995, they would only have been the band that did Creep and High and Dry (what a sad thought) 1 - In Rainbows 2 - OK Computer 3 - A Moon Shaped Pool 4 - Kid A 5 - The King Of Limbs 6 - Hail To The Thief 7 - Amnesiac 8 - The Bends 9 - Pablo Honey
I checked out on Radiohead after Amnesia, didn’t really care for that album or anything after that, “The Bends” is number 1 for me, then “Ok Computer”, then “Kid A”.
Great list Mazzy, one of the few of your lists where I actually have them all! I got into them at Ok Computer which I've always thought they meant it as Zero-K computer, as in a computer with no memory (or memories). I still think of it that way.
I shared your initial feelings in regard to OK Computer, Mazzy. It was the mrs who was really into it. I enjoy it now, but also agree that Kid A is prob my favourite or second after In Rainbows… For myself, Kid A was when they broke the mould and came into their own and transcended the norm. Loved their albums pretty much ever since. I may have the wrong person, but if I recall, Johnny Greenwood hated Creep so much that during recording he jumped on his guitar pedal and produced the thump/clunk that by accident energised the track.
Love Radiohead, I’ve seen them live 11 times including the night before KID A was released in a circus tent (in record store at 9am the next day), I think your list is pretty spot on considering they are all great albums.. Mine would be 1. Kid A 2. ok computer 3. In Rainbows 4. A moon shaped pool 5. The Bends 6. Hail to the thief 7. Pablo Honey 8. Amnesiac 9. King of Limbs I’ve held of on buying on buying the 12” vinyl versions of kid a and amnesiac so looking forward to the new red vinyl reissue of those records coming next month…
Agreed….there is just better and better. Like with great bands, unique upon hearing them and then with each listen, you say to yourself, “whoa….maybe this ones is the best?” but if pushed…Kid A. Why not is right…this album as a single listen is one of my favorites. Can’t wait…ordered the deluxe version of Kid Amnesia with the art book. I have purposely not listened to Pablo Honey or The Bends-I have them but ….I’ve also done this with my favorite directors so I always have something in my back pocket. Sill, I know but that’s my strange secret. I also got the deluxe edition of Moon Shaped Pool. Great package. Amnesiac feels the darkest to me. In Rainbows sounds like alternative universe neo-soul masterpiece. Ok Computer knocked me in the head. I obviously had heard their pop hits but when it was released, I hadn’t heard a whole album of this caliber since I was record collecting in the mid 80’s. I had a friend pop it in the CD player on the way to an 11th Daydream gig at the Double Door in Chicago. Epic first listen, rinse and repeat. Also….epic show that night and the only time I ever got to see them….which reminds me. The Radiohead catalog as a whole- I cant think of another band in the last 40 years where it’s so difficult to rank… an evolution of sound! Thom is a both genius in his song writing and vocals, Johnny a reluctant guitar god in the most subversive way, Phil crafting some very strange an unique time signatures , and Ed’s ethereal layering of sound. The secret weapon….(and I don’t believe recognized for it) Colins groovy, groovy bass lines.
To be honest growing up listening to a lot of Tangerine Dream I found the Radiohead stuff after OK computer somewhat derivative of them and just OK. And personally I really only enjoy The Bends of all their releases I am not particularly fond of OK Computer, however they are certainly one of the most interesting bands in the last 25 to 30 years. I saw them live at Maple Leaf Gardens and they do put on a great show.
For me it is The Bends, then Ok Computer, and the rest of them all seem to blend together. I admit that I should spend more time with the rest of their catalog. One of these days.
I still maintain that they did not alienate as many fans with Kid A as some people want to suggest. They could’ve released an album of recorded dog farts at the time, and I would’ve thought it was amazing. So many people my age felt they could do no wrong from 1995-2001.
1 - The Bends 2 - OK Computer 3 - Kid A 4 - In Rainbows 5 - Hail To The Thief 6 - Amnesiac 7 - The King Of Limbs 8 - Pablo Honey 9 - A Moon Shaped Pool Surprised how low The Bends is on your list, but as you said, it's personal and Radiohead doesn't have a bad album.
Bends used to be my favourite when I first got into Radiohead but over time it's releaved itself as just a good rock album. Nothing as creative, mind expanding, or experimental as the ones that came after
@@markh.9822 Since when was being a great rock album a bad thing. It has stuck for me as a personal favorite, but I do understand why others prefer the more experimental albums.

Thank you. I usually get flack when I bring in psychedelic to these sorts of artists who are not really that 🌸
Mine are 9- Amnesiac.
8- Kid A
7- Pablo Honey
6- King Of Limbs
5- Hail To The Thief
4- A Moon Shaped Pool
3- The Bends
2- In Rainbows
1- OK Computer.
The bends, OK Computer, Kid A.
Mazzy great review you were are spot on with number one Kid A that change the game on albums big time the artwork amazing . I still trip out how they came up with the band name “Radiohead”from a Talking Heads song from the album a Telling Stories .take care Lovellandrew
Thank Lovell forgot about the Talking Heads connection ✌🏽
One of the best and most important bands ever .....and still relevant today!
Like you say, none of these records are bad, but I think Pablo Honey and The Bends are the least interesting. If Radiohead had stopped developing after 1995, they would only have been the band that did Creep and High and Dry (what a sad thought)
1 - In Rainbows
2 - OK Computer
3 - A Moon Shaped Pool
4 - Kid A
5 - The King Of Limbs
6 - Hail To The Thief
7 - Amnesiac
8 - The Bends
9 - Pablo Honey
Radiohead is indeed an incredible band , thanks for the video my friend
Welcome. Thank you 🌸
Agree for Fake Plastic
I thought it was interesting that the artist for their albums said he doesn’t listen to their music when he was interviewed.
Yeah I’ve heard that. Seems strange to me but artists are crazy 🙄😎😳🤠
I checked out on Radiohead after Amnesia, didn’t really care for that album or anything after that, “The Bends” is number 1 for me, then “Ok Computer”, then “Kid A”.
Every album is their best album
My favorite is probably the Bends. But I think their best one is OK Computer.
Spot on, except hail to the thief should be higher in my opinion
No major surprises other than Pablo Honey coming in above King of Limbs and Hail to the Thief, but an entertaining video.
Great list Mazzy, one of the few of your lists where I actually have them all!
I got into them at Ok Computer which I've always thought they meant it as Zero-K computer, as in a computer with no memory (or memories). I still think of it that way.
I am so freaking excited for this! I love Radiohead. 😱
💃💃💃🌟
By the way, did you manage to order one of the vinyl editions of KID A MNESIA?
I did pre order 🌟
@@mazzysmusic Me too. Appears to be sold out now!
Cool. Didn’t know that about Creep ✌🏽
Love Radiohead, I’ve seen them live 11 times including the night before KID A was released in a circus tent (in record store at 9am the next day), I think your list is pretty spot on considering they are all great albums..
Mine would be
1. Kid A
2. ok computer
3. In Rainbows
4. A moon shaped pool
5. The Bends
6. Hail to the thief
7. Pablo Honey
8. Amnesiac
9. King of Limbs
I’ve held of on buying on buying the 12” vinyl versions of kid a and amnesiac so looking forward to the new red vinyl reissue of those records coming next month…
Cool. I’ve seen them twice. Pretty close list ✌🏽
Very, very nice artwork. Have them on cd's, so need my reading glasses to admire it.
Yeah beautiful. 😎
Reckoner and 15 step is good In Rainbows. Plastic Trees is a favorite. Have to spend some time with this band. Much Thanks.
I like Radiohead yet their later albums don’t do much for me.
Sure radio adds the drama. Yes DNA from Tangerine Dream and some Kraftwerk and then they make it theirs 🌟
Wilco ranking????
Hmmm maybe 🤷🏻♂️
For me it is The Bends, then Ok Computer, and the rest of them all seem to blend together. I admit that I should spend more time with the rest of their catalog. One of these days.
I’ve heard that from others. After you play them a lot I think their individualism comes out ✌🏽
@@mazzysmusic The time has come to give these albums a more thorough listen.
Do you have any Manic Street Preachers? For some reason not big in North America but check them out. Generation Terrorists is a good place to start.
Yes! Great suggestion! Everything Must Go is probably their most known album but I am sure Mazzy will appreciate the greatness of Holy Bible.
Ive heard a few tracks from them. Will seek more out.
I still maintain that they did not alienate as many fans with Kid A as some people want to suggest. They could’ve released an album of recorded dog farts at the time, and I would’ve thought it was amazing. So many people my age felt they could do no wrong from 1995-2001.
Maybe not in reality. I just kept hearing that complaint. And of course complainers are the loudest 😎
1 - The Bends
2 - OK Computer
3 - Kid A
4 - In Rainbows
5 - Hail To The Thief
6 - Amnesiac
7 - The King Of Limbs
8 - Pablo Honey
9 - A Moon Shaped Pool
Surprised how low The Bends is on your list, but as you said, it's personal and Radiohead doesn't have a bad album.
A great catalog and everyone had their personal faves ✌🏽
I only have one (small) complaint about Radiohead, they were much too loud live. That"s a pretty good ranking, I can't argue much with that.
Actually not anywhere close to the loudest band Ive seen live.😎
My favorites all time: 1. The Beatles, 2. Radiohead…….that’s all.
Phoebe Bridgers & Arlo Parks do a reasonable version of Fake Plastic Trees
Haven’t heard. I’ll check those out ✌🏽
@@mazzysmusic you tube I think BBC session
They are all way overated..
