    I use Vice golf balls and just conducted your test, 7 of 12 of those balls were true round. I then purchased the Callaway ball that was lasered. I then compared the Callaway ball to the "out of round" Vice balls. The Callaways definitely outperformed the OOR Vice balls. I am a believer, thank you for your content.

    I’m tempted to do the salt water test with my balls before I play. One suggestion might be to take some of the good golf balls and hit them several times in your simulator and then do a roll test to see if repeated impacts effect ball balance over time.

    Good video bud. I agree with you and others that a ball with concentricity issues can affect your game.
    One thing that I didn't see you mention or that's in the comment section....The types of grass you roll the putt on can and will make a difference in performance. You looked to be on Bermuda greens, and as we can clearly see in the video, the "grain" of the grass was laying towards one side of the cup. (brown and rough) This effected the direction of the roll on all of your shorter attempts later in the video.
    I would love to see these types of test performed on either Bent Grass greens or running with the grain of the grass for consistent test.
    Thanks for putting in the work!

    You did an outstanding job. The only reason why Callaway has a balance ball is because they were called out for their quality control a few years ago. I am glad they fixed it, giving us a ball we can now trust.

    • @albylongballboarder

      Callaway only has this "higher" quality in their 2022 lines of Chromesoft balls, they charge an extra $5 over the last years so you PAID for it. Try their lower end balls like the $25 Supersoft and it's out of balance

    • @jimmydelrio8662
      @jimmydelrio8662 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@albylongballboarder 5 dollars is not that much to have a piece of mind that your golf balls are balanced. Especially at a time when people are spending way too much on a driver and other equipment, it's worth it to get a golf ball that will perform true and accordingly. It is an item you use every stroke.

  • @elgringo0219
    @elgringo0219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like the concept of your test. I do believe it would make a difference to a scratch or low handicap on true rolling greens. Just based on the consistency of their putting stroke. 95% of weekend hackers as myself playing public tracks I dont believe it would matter much. I would like to see if it affects ball flight/trajectory/distance. Good work testing it was very informative.

    • @serenityinsilence
      @serenityinsilence 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think an unbalanced ball would affect a weekend hack as much if not more than a lower handicap player. Especially off the tee. Someone who has a miss, would have their miss exaggerated more by the unbalanced ball. For example a slice would be worse than normal.
      Whether or not a weekend hack would know it was the ball or swing error is another story. Lol they may think they swung bad and blame themselves, and it was just a bad ball. I know I’ve put a good swing on a couple of cheaper balls and ended up in the rough. I wonder if they were just bad balls, or if what I thought was a good swing wasn’t.

    • @elgringo0219
      @elgringo0219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See I would agree if I could find evidence that it affects flight/trajectory/distance as I stated above. Since this video only relates to putting. The other more common variables like swing path and club face angle have more effect on their slice than an unbalanced ball in a high handicapper in my opinion. Since most pros are machines and ridiculous ball strikers their consistency in their game is why I I believe it would affect their round more than an average weekend warrior.

    There is another aspect that an unbalanced ball affects, full shots. Two years ago Golf Labs did a robot test with the MaxFli Tour Pro and Tour Pro X. They been balancing their tour balls for a couple of years. It showed that the balls fly higher, longer and straighter when struck along the balance axis. My Golf Spy also did a ball performance test and it showed the MaxFli tour balls to performed as well as the Pro V1s. The only problem with the MaxFli balls is that it only works if you are putting or hitting it off the tee. Personally from now on I will use the MaxFli for everyday play and Callaway Soft for games that matter. I just need to go through my stock of balls first 😀

    I am a firm believer of balls being in balance for straight roll. 2 examples 1) those red play ground balls with the heavy black spot where you add air rolls very imbalanced because of the extra weight at the blow up spot. 2) I bowled for 35 years, was very good and bowling balls have different shaped weight blocks inside of them to help make them hook or curve down the lanes. I spin all my golf balls no matter what brand and use my line. That is why I can't play those 2 tone half and half balls because my line is never on the exact color change. I also think this is very important when teeing off also. An unbalanced ball will slice or hook more from the tee as it has farther go fly and the balance will pull it one way or the other. I line my line on the ball to go in the fairway where I want it to go. I have talked to 3 of my buds and they are now spinning there balls also.

  • @cmiller8006

    so doing research, I found some manufacturers balance the balls, maxfli is one, the alignment mark they put on it is the balance point. I'm wondering if the others do the same, if you were to use an unbalanced ball but use the prov1 line would it putt true?

    Great work Gabe. I agree it is completely unreasonable to think that any production process is 100% flawless. I do wish you had the ability to use a "Perfect Putter" in your test as I think you would not see that very noticeable bounce of the ball as it first interacts with the grass at the end of your stimp meter ramp. I also ran into this problem when I attempted my own testing a few years ago and I think the "Perfect Putter" would help smooth out this transition to more accurately simulate a putting motion. Love the test but I think the bounce imparts a little too much variability. Keep up the great work!👍👍👍

    I'd like to see if the good balls stay balanced after they have been hit a couple of times.

    Great job thought the test assumes I line the putter up correctly and hit through the line for the ball to cause me to miss. That will happen enough for this to be a real issue? I guess if i likes a ball that’s properly laser tested and is in my price bracket I would get it.

  • @gripitripitchipit

    After watching your last video I ordered a check-go pro. This video just confirmed what I thought would happen. Being able to find the axis of balance, or whatever you would call it, I think would help. I would think that even an out of balance ball has a point where it is most balanced. I think the gadget spins the ball to find that position or point. Being able to line up the ball for hits and putts based on that position is desirable and like you mentioned the line the manufacturer puts on the ball is likely not coordinated along the balance point. As interesting as this all was Gabe, I just don't want to have to do a static balance test for each ball. Whereas putting it in a machine and spinning it for a few seconds is acceptable to me. Now let me emphasize, I am not that good to where I really need to worry about it. But, if I can improve my chances of having a putt go on the intended line and not deviate due to the nature of the ball, I am all for trying to give myself that chance and possibly hole a few more for lower scores. Your little experiment may just end up helping me improve my score along with a lot of other people here. Great stuff Gabe, thanks for taking the time and effort on this. Very eye opening.

    Of course there are always going to be some irregularities in golf balls, but you would think that with all the technology they use the numbers would be rather small. I wonder what tour players do prior to tournaments to make sure they are playing the best/most reliable balls, especially on the greens. One or two missed putts per round will cost any pro a lot of money.

      At around the 2 minute mark, your comments contradict what happened. Then on the second ball you put the dot to the right and the ball missed to the right , this totally contradicts the theory that the ball was breaking to the heavy side.
      I completely understand the principles of dynamic balance , so don’t shoot me down, I agree that a ball with a relatively high degree of imbalance will break to the heavy side, that’s not what was showed in those two instances.

    Wow...I'm flabbergasted. I'm a life-long Titleist Balata, Tour Prestige, Pro-V1 low handicapper....and I can't believe I'm now gonna seriously have to switch over to the Callaway laser-tested balls. Very disappointed at Titleist.

    Ring ring......Gabe, Bob here at Titleist. Great work on the ball testing recently that we’d like to invite you to join team Titleist. How’d you like to be our QC and test every ball we produce before packaging? 😱

    I play budget Top Flite golf balls, and I've always been a little worried about quality control, but it appears that the big name brands aren't any better.

      Yes it's been interesting to find they all seem to have QC issues. I'm sure some are worse than others and like many mentioned on the previous video, the more layers, the more opportunities for imperfection.

    I may need to test my pro v1xs for balance before competitions. I wonder how balanced was the ball that I made an eagle from 155 yards out. LOL

    It would be interesting for you to contact the guys at My Golf Spy and see what they think. They have always found Titleist balls to have zero flaws I believe in their tests. I definitely see the flaws in that box of balls, initially the My Golf Spy guys found a lot of issues with Callaway balls, and they worked with Callaway to show Callaway the issue and Callaway worked on their process to solve the issue.

    90% of amateur golfers don't hit putts with enough pace, and on the correct line. So an out of balance ball is probably not going to cost you that many strokes, maybe one per round that was hit perfect.

    I'd be contacting titelist to replace the defective balls. I hate to think now I have to test all new balls before I play.

    Would be interesting to see a driving robot test balanced and unbalanced balls to see how much slice or hook they generate

    I’m pretty sure non of my three putts over the years were my fault. Thanks for clearing that up for me! 😂

    how many putters have been snapped thinking the misses were their fault, or even the golfers fault?
