    Owned one of those in Green Color, back in my High School days - 1976. That sound brought back a lot of memories riding around Virginia - USA with my hair in the wind. Great job restoring it and thanks for posting the video. Right On!

    I have a 1973 360, that I am in the process of breaking down now so I can have the frame and other parts powder coated. My dad bought this bike new and I can remember at 4 years old sitting on the tank and holding onto the cross bar as my dad took me for my first ride. If you are willing I would love to ask you a few questions about your beautiful restoration.

    TORQUE INDUCTION was the description Yamaha gave to the newer motorcycle engines that came with the Reed valve between the carburettor and the engine block.
    The previous engines were " piston ported" with the up-and-down movement of the piston doing all the port timing control.
    With the new reed-valve, the piston port timing could be changed more critically, without the worry of " blow- by" through the carburettor.........no reverse flow !
    This design allowed the engine to put out a little more torque.
    This was the hallmark of the later RD engines.

    • @micoumeekoo
      @micoumeekoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. The turn signals are not modified, they are the standard ones fitted by Yamaha for the french and european market. With the homologation being different from a country to another, the turn signals, headlight and tail light could different in different countries.

    I also have one of this 360cc RT1, and later over the year, several 250 DT1 too.. The RT1 is a real badass, as the name said "angle-breaker".. because my neighborhood mechanic found out.. a blue-black angle... that the reason Yamaha put in a de-compression valve on top of the exhaust port.. the kick-back is nasty..

    • @smidon
      @smidon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an RT1. Scariest thing for kickback ever. I ripped the back of my heel open kicking it - it threw my foot back up into the rear foot peg. After a while I bump started it. Motherless thing. But God I’d love to have it now. That and my RD350 from 74. Groan.

    Your videos are always a joy to watch! We have an annual Yamaha Enduro ride in the US, I have a couple of video slideshows, I wish they had the production value of your videos!
    Where did the "Cutaway Engine" featured early in the video come from? Is it yours? Also was the darker "Charcoal Gray" color of you bike original for the European bikes too, or just the domestic Japanese model? Ours were a a lighter "Crystal Silver" color in the US. I'm a big fan of your bikes and videos, I can tell that you are a very good rider too. It would be nice to meet and ride one day!

    • @micoumeekoo
      @micoumeekoo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mark. I did myself the cutaway engine with worn parts. I think RT2 where crystal silver nearly everywhere in the world, but I own a japanese brochure showing this charcoal grey color. I find it more classy. Coming probably tomorow : a new video of my Yamaha XT 250. I also painted it in a japanese sheme from a brochure..

    WOW - looks really better than new !
    A question please: Which tires did you mount (brand and model) ?

    • @micoumeekoo
      @micoumeekoo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. The front tire is a genuine 19' Dunlop Trial Universal found with the original Yamaha wrapping and with the Yamaha part number tag ! The french importer asked for 21 inches front wheel. The rear one is a south east asian product : Vee rubber, with the correct paved look like in the seventies.

    • @Milo_Minderbinder
      @Milo_Minderbinder 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@micoumeekoo Thank you very much for your answer. I will check, which Vee Rubber might suit my bikes. I recently restored two 70ties dirt bikes, which had over 30 year old Metzeler Enduro tires. They had perfect looking profile design - very classic, like on your Yamaha. Now I have mounted new Mitas E05 (front) and Bridgestone TW24 (rear). They also have the typical classic trial design, but slightly too fine pattern. The next tires shall have the perfect classic look. That's why, I asked you.

    This is the 4th video i watched on the RT2 & not one mentioned the odd spark plug system . i doubt many other brands used it tho' i am not an expert.

    • @micoumeekoo
      @micoumeekoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Karl. Are you talking about the 2 spark plug holes for only one cylinder ? I have no explanation, but nearly all the Yamaha 2 stroke trail bikes had these 2 holes. And the Kawasaki 125 KE, 250 F11 and 350 Big Horn had the same, and also the Suzuki TS 400 and TS 250. We used to fit a manual compression release in the second hole, or a second "spare" spark plug.

      Hello. it's more and more difficult to find parts for this rare bike in Europe, but they have been sold by thousands in the USA. So boneyards, swap meet and eBay can be good purveyors. Search also at cmsnl.com. They have a lot of small new old stock usefull parts. Good luck.

      Yes, it happens to me too, with a 250 DT2 ! It's when there is not enough firing advance set at the contact breaker. It was at a red light. When it turns green, I hit the car behind me !

      it was popular for the guys owning these 360's to get the frames plastic powdercoated after awhile inbetween surfing and doing wheelies or tearing up the parks. I didn't find the company that powder coated, it so ended up in a hurry stripping it down and hand painting the frame red with red oil paint by brush it looked pretty good too. probably the only red frame 360 ever . Then sprayed it white with flash union jack badges on the tank . A year after that then I sprayed it mat desert colour and put on Afika Kor palm trees on the tank that didn't go down well with all the old fogies who fought at el alamein. Dam it looked the business. I left it like that , then my younger brother borrowed it after awhile , left it in the park unlocked, brainless twit, and it was stolen. son of a bitch never ever said sorry ....... UNFORGIVEN

    AMAZING bike! Just lose the music, sound effects, and slide show, and make it an ACTUAL VIDEO THROUGHOUT, and let us hear the bike the WHOLE TIME... The cheesy music, and ESPECIALLY the awful sound effects really need to go, man. And even better, how about video of the actual restoration PROCESS?
