ok I'm just going to say that letting go of a toxic friend whether forced or by your own accord is so freeing. I had a friend that was always bragging about how he was faster, taller, and stronger than me, and would get mad and lash out at me when I had something to brag about. slowly, with the help of other friends and a extremely hurtful insult he said, (WHICH HE DENIES SAYING) I now live by the philosophy of "the best revenge is a life well lived."

Had a similar experience. In 8th grade I befriended a girl who went to my elementary school but didn't talk much to. At the start she was nice but eventually when she opened up to me I became her emotional punching bag. Anyway, I was sick of getting bruises so I ghosted her for the rest of the year. HOWEVER, a friend that we both had told me she was sad that I didn't talk to her anymore, and told me to write her a letter. I basically explained I didn't want to be her friend anymore cause she kept punching me in the arm and gut and tried to blackmail me several times. You know, THINGS THAT MAKE SENSE TO AVOID. Then the girl ripped it up and never talked to me again. Happy ending!

I had this one friend that started out being really funny. Then, over time, she literally made sure I felt hated every second. Like, she'd still act like my friend (follow me everywhere, sit with me at lunch, talk to me, etc) but she'd constantly make jokes at my expense. Whenever I bothered to say anything that wasn't about her, she'd start talking to someone else or just leave. Basically, she would constantly be near me just so she could blab about herself and put me down for having interests and a life.

People here don’t know how frustrating it is to have an Abby in their lives. I had one and all year long i made my best to make her feel at ease and accepted by others. But you know what ? Generaly, Abbys don’t want to change, they don’t see the problem, so at the end you are just throwing away all your energy to make an ungratful person happy. When i choosed to ghost her she started talking shit behind my back. No regrets. If people need help, they have to see that they are the problem first.

Sounds like this girl just had a lot of issues with socializing and boundaries, she probably had a shitty homelife with parents or guardians who never taught her how to socialize with others properly. I feel bad for her more than anything else and I hope she's doing ok. I know I used to be that girl in high school too, I've gotten a lot better and grown as a person myself, and socializing is a lot easier for me than it was in highschool.
Also I don't blame you or any of the kids I went to school with for their reactions to me, and your reactions to her. Teenagers are very self absorbed and have a difficult time really seeing things beyond their own feelings, so it was probably easier to just make fun of and avoid her than it was to confront her on her behavior. Zoe seemed like the more emotionally and mentally mature one out of your friend group who tried to understand Abby instead of just rejecting her, so I hope she's also doing well.

People need to understand that a bad home life doesn’t mean you can be manipulative or do whatever you want. Nobody should be having to “deal” with you or your problems. Thats not what friendship is, and honestly they had every right to stop talking to her. I was pretty annoying in elementary, and felt left out alot. Honestly? I can say first hand I deserved it. People got sick of me easily so I sucked it up and stopped being so annoying. If you ask me it actually taught me a valuable lesson; nobody owes you friendship.

i personally never understood the whole thing about "ghosting" someone, because im pretty sure even if it wouldve been "messy", it also wouldve been more fair to sit "abby" the eff down and tell her that you/everyone else felt uncomfortable about her antics and giving the friendship some closure. if ppl get ghosted, theyll try to find closure and they wont distance themselves immediately from the ghoster, since they want to know what they did wrong, why they are neglected, because from their point of view, they dont necessarily dont see the fault in their own actions, unless someone calls them out on that. zoe was actually on a good track, if she had actually had the courage to speak up and point out to "abby" the kinds of things that she did were wrong. at least in my opinion, confrontation and clarification in order to find closure are always better. no matter how "crazy" someone is. i can see that perhaps she acted extra crazy/clingy because she was rejected by so many people and nobody had the balls to actually call her out on her mistakes, so she never really gets a chance to improve.

The way Abby was portrayed makes her seem like a very unreasonable person, so I would rule out having a conversation with her. She honestly seems like one of those attention-seeking people who self-victimize so that others feel bad for them. If you don't want to be friends with someone, you do not owe them an explanation or an intervention, and honestly it could make things worse. I'd rather leave them wondering than risk whatever drama follows, especially if the friendship wasn't worth it to begin with. Why try to settle things with someone you don't even really like in the first place? Not everyone is going to like you. You're not going to like everyone. And not everything needs to be discussed, argued, or disputed. Abby will be just fine.
Bro I can relate to Zoe, I was like that before. It really sucks, I learnt it from myself to just turn away from others who are utter trash friends. I’m so glad I did, it comes in useful so many times!
