- How to turn a recessed can light into a pendant light using the Westinghouse can conversion kit
This is the can converter used in this video.
It is only for lighting not for ceiling fans.
I have replaced a can light by going into the attic and this is well worth the extra few dollars to avoid the attic.

We have a larger recessed light. This kit is not quite large enough. Do you know other options or a way to convert the converter kit? ty
Did you drill the bracket through the canister? Or just straight into the drywall?

Did that bracket come with the pendent light or did you buy separate? I can’t find one.
Everything came in this can conversion kit. I recently tried another conversion kit that is even easier but is limited to lights under 4 lbs. I will be posting a video on that soon.
Hi! What did you do with the bare copper wire? I have the same kit and I'm not sure what to do with the bare wire, if I need to connect it to the pendant light bracket green screw or just leave it there.
I connected mine to the green screw. I'll just add that I am not an electrician.
Copper is the ground wire and it's meant to be touching metal.
Ideally its never used but in the event of a fault, it redirects the electricity safely.
Will this make the drywall droop after time?
I dont believe it will. This one has been up since Feb and so far so good.

What size screw is the fixture mount hole? Cannot find the right size
We were able to just use the screws that came with our light fixture. Unfortunately I don’t recall the size.

Yep! Ive used this kit for ceiling fans. Never got around to posting a video on it. But it held up well. amzn.to/3XriSKt Its called the The Can Converter R56
This kit is NOT rated for a ceiling fan. However, there are other kits like the "Can Converter 7" Kit" that are ceiling fan rated. They are more expensive (about $68) as of this post. I found them on the Lowes website.
I have done this but after 20 minutes the light goes out. Anyone know why?
At 1:49 second, you were able to screw it pretty easily, but I couldn't make that easily... I used nails, drill etc... stuck there now. Any tips?
Did you try predrilling with a thin drill bit first? I find this always helps. Self drilling screws can be helpful too.

I did try using my drill with drill bit (7/64) but as it was hard I tried nails too 🙂... however, I just borrowed impact driver from my friend which helped to screw them well... it's pretty tight now. Together drilling it a bit initially with drill bit + nail helped finally. Thanks again for your video.

Decent video but using words (actual instructions) instead of music would have been far more helpful.
