    I leant that Dividend paying companies are typically not going to grow in stock price as much and the overall market. But they do tend to be stable mature companies. I want to invest around 600K for retirement, is this good strategy?

      There's nothing wrong with dividend investing in stable companies, but I recommend consulting an expert if you're looking to invest that amount for retirement.

      I'm nearing retirement as well and have greatly benefited from working with a financial advisor. Since I didn't start investing early, I knew I couldn't rely on the compound interest from index funds. Interestingly, I've managed to earn more profit than some of my peers who have been investing for years.

    A very interesting video. Stock Growth with Dividends. Higher Dividend yields can be achieved by using other companies Bats Bp. As long as a company can cover their dividend it’s not a problem. I’m a Legal & General fan I was given share in them for my 18 birthday and added to them over the years and always reinvested the Dividends. That was 40 years ago and they now pay a very healthy dividend

      Hi, I’ve watched lots of dividend videos and this is something I find confusing. Why choose companies with lower dividend rates. Pick from the top payers, I can understand diversifying a portfolio but again pick the higher dividend companies.
      Well pays your money and makes your choice.
      Take care M.

      @@markeh1971high dividends can be a sign of a company desperate to keep their share price up because the market isn’t valuing the company sufficiently. It would then be vulnerable to take over.
      Also high dividends are a sign that they don’t have a good reinvestment strategy so potentially this signals that they won’t be growing their company and therefore share price.

    Hi Hayley, a really interesting video. It would be great to see this revisited for 2024 to see how much your original video and estimates have crystallised, to help to determine the overall notional costs on a UK platform such as 212 or Freetrade etc and an estimate of real yields minus costs to assess this versus a simple tracker like the FTSE 100 as a comparison for this high dividend strategy. Ive seen another of these that shows monthly yields on the calendar view. I think it would also be interesting to look at concentration risk in this to see if it would alter your selection of target companies if you were to revisit? Great video - ☺️

    As a dividend investor in for the long-term, monthly dividends aren't very important to me so much as the overall yield. An interesting idea, but with a bit of quick math this portfolio yields around 2.25% only. I'd be aiming for closer to 6% with companies that still have plenty of growth potential .

  • @richardc316
    @richardc316 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Diageo has raised it dividends for 23 consecutive years and it's still only 2.2%. Is it just me or is that a bit weird? What am I missing?

    • @TheCompoundingInvestor
      @TheCompoundingInvestor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As the dividends go up, so does the share price so the yield stays roughly the same. If you bought Diageo in 2006 then you would be getting a yield of nearly 9% each year now on your original amount

    It’s unusual to get much growth in the share price from companies that pay too large a dividend. 3 or 4% is as much as you will get as a maximum yield without the share price falling year-on-year. LGEN is a classic example.
    It is better in the long run to buy growth stocks or accumulating ETFs. If you need an income, you can always sell a few shares as you need them. One tip if you are looking for dividends, check the company’s dividend cover. You really need it to be 2+
