Great vid . I just bought a fsh 190 and this vid will surely help .
Awesome Jeff and congratulations captain On your new boat and hopefully I will see you out there on the water thank you for watching my channel
Cap I had a similar problem and I solved by using magnetic rubber strips like the ones you have on the inside of your refrigerator door. Since they are magnetic they hold tight and vibration does not become an issue. They last much much longer than the average weather strip because they are actually made out a special man made material that has the elasticity of rubber. You can buy it from any appliance repair shop. Since they are designed for doors, you can open close your hatches and doors as much as you want without any problems. If you apply this material properly, it will also make your covered areas waterproof. Good luck. I love watching your videos.
A? I A. Thanks A? That great information on what you use and very clever thanks for your recomendation.
Navigate safe Cap.
In my opinion, I can understand you wanting to repair what has rubbed away, but it’s only going to rub away again because your lid or hatches need to have rubber seal where it is rubbing this hole stop the vibration and stop the where in tear
Very true cap . And this boat was only 2 years old ,poor quality product
Another helpful video. I'll have to take a look at my engine compartment, as I know that the leaning post bench really takes a pounding in rough seas.
As I watched your repair, the thought occurred to me that you could make a decent gasket to prevent this type of wear by using a similar method and substituting 3M 5200 fast cure marine epoxy (24 hour cure time). You could use masking tape to create the pattern for a rub strip, then smooth the epoxy into the masked area with a blade or scraper. The 5200 sets up fairly hard, but has some elasticity, which would help dampen the impact of the hatch onto the frame. Of course, you'd want to do this after making any other adjustments to the latches and hinges that would reduce the contact of these areas.
Keep up the great videos!
Diverscott thanks for the great advice, navigate safe cap.
Good job Cap keep up the good work be safe.
Maykel Garcia thanks Maykel
Navigate safe my frind
This is the wrong approach. There are pieces touching that shouldnt touch each other. You need to replace the Gaskets. On the Motor Hatch you need to replace the rubber pieces under the latches so that the whole Top doesnt touch the bottom. Same in the Front - replace the whole Gasket which is running around the opening. This is a question of cause and effect. You fixed the effect but not the cause... Great Videos btw. Love your channel!
Sebastian Krebs great comment i like your comment makes sense i know that will help but i noticed this wear since i purchased the boat it just getting worse but i know your idea may help.
Thanks for being a loyal subscriber of my channel navigate safe cap.
You can get the exact gel coat from the dealer in case you need to make a bigger repair
kiki86931 thanks buddy that is great to know for big repairs.
Navigate safe Cap.
Eliezer Benitez tienes rason
Ahora me ba a costar mas los reparos por mi uso
People who buy those kind of boats dont usually run in the ocean as much as you do, it wasnt really intended to run to the bahamas on rough days. That wear is normal for as much pounding as you put that boat through. I think the process yamaha uses is not normal fiberglass but what they call smc.
edgewater mike egree cap. But this is a fishing boat and i think 2 foot waves will make this damage too i think is poor engenired but yamaha is learning with this mistakes and hopefully soon they will correct in tge future.
Thanks for you comment Cap.
Put a strip of weather stripping.
Kenny Dimaggio thats another great idea kenny thanks Cap.
You can buy a piece of foam tape and stick it where the fiberglass meets. It's just a thin piece of black foam, with adhesive on one side.
Or, you could sand down the fiberglass on the moving parts.
That's also a great idea Captain thank you for your suggestion
I just purchased a Sea Ray 210 SPX OB Mercury 150 4S, I looked at this boat and I liked it, easy to tow and maintain, but the wife liked the Sea Ray's luxuriousness. Why did you chose this boat and what others did you see?
jsmrgen i always like jet boat because of the loe draft I usually navigate in 2 feet of water and Bahama Waters so I definitely need the jet propulsion I'm also looking at the Scarab 255 open fish brand new boat just came out of the market very good looking boat , Yamaha boat company it's just learning to build fishing boats right now so hopefully in the future they'll get better meanwhile I'm looking at other options.
and congrats on your new purchase that is a great boat you purchase navigate safe Cap.
Out On The Reef Wow, That’s a big upgrade. Beautiful boat that will take you all the way to the Exhumas! Good luck man. Follow your dreams.
Cap, can you put some thin rubber sticky type material to those area where its making contact?
Saltwater Bae thats a great idea cap i will see how long this miner repair las ,if it dosent last long then i will take your suggestion.
Thanks and Navigate safe Cap.
we were looking at this boat for our first used family/fishing boat. inter coastal mainly... do you still like your boat and happy with it?
About two years ago I change it for another vote but it was a great boat even though I had some minor issues but I was happy with it
1:59 Yes, poor engineering as there doesn't seem to be much latch and hinge adjustability to work with. My opinion (like buttholes, everyone has one) is you'd be better off shaving the lid edges to stop the rubbing as the wear is just going to wear down again soon. 7:24 Cardboard absorbs liquids, better to use plastic to mix.
very true cap. thanks for the suggestion cap👍👍
So far pretty good fixes are suggested, but that goes to show you the crappy craftsmanship that corporations are willing to give you for your hard earned $$$$. If I dropped 40-50K on a boat like the FSH, I would expect a little more emphasis on quality. Thanks for the videos.
The starting price on the 190 is $30k, but you still make a fair point. I certainly wish mine had fewer water leakage issues.
