My first guess is a neighbor had an RFI complaint and this is how they resolved it.
I guess it is time to invest in some quality security cameras with good image resolution and night vision.

Lucky the mystery is solved... nothing to do with copper wire or RFI thankfully just posted part 2 but lost the antenna again

Well, so I'm not the only one. I had an eflw deployed between two painters' poles, and someone tore the one painters pole out and stole it. They ripped the end of the wire, but didn't steal it. Someone nicely coiled up the end and put it beside the building. The cord was still tied to the tree. My WSPR was still going strong. I had only checked a couple of hours before amd it was fine.
The strange thing? I have just moved to a "nicer" area. I had virtually no issues when I lived next to the subsidized housing area. Go figure.

I have a 3.55 mhz horizontal loop. Out of all the trees I have, a tornado came near the house and one of the trees that support a Corner was pulled up and snapped my 10 gage wire… and pulled my ladder line feed ‘T’ apart. Weakest link! No fun to climb trees when you’re almost 60 years old

Interesting idea with the springs. I put a pully at the bottom (appx 20 feet up) and attached weights to provide some give to the system. Around 10 lbs on each end was perfect for my G5RV. Always 10 ways to solve a problem :) 73 KL5DV

I have and am currently using the weight and pulley configuration on an 80 meter endfed and 160 meter inverted L and have used them in a 80 meter full wave loop in the past....works perfect every time for me.

Would have like to see how you got the wire so high up in the tree. That is always a fun exercise. 73 de K6TJO

I had a 160m loop up on my property and a wind storm blew the ponderosa pines down. I had it at about 70ft.... I Took 3 log truck loads to the saw mill...lol

Would the use of aluminum wire significantly compromise the performance of the antenna? Seems like aluminum would keep the copper thieves from coveting your lovely antenna.

You're telling me someone stole a few hundred feet of wire out of your trees in a nice neighborhood like that?
    Time to move.

Go get some IR security cameras and put them where you can see all the low enough spots for someone to reach.

I've never heard of a ham radio antenna, let alone a wire antenna been stolen before! Get some cameras as others have suggested. Who knows if it was a stupid neighbor or someone with mental issues. 73 from Andrew VK2XXL

@@SignalPhantom Wow I just watched your update. My last comment was directed at someone seemingly with malice intentions. But I'm SHOCKED to learn it actually was someone with real mental health issues, I hope they get the treatment they need. 73

That’s very sad to hear! That’s weird too. Too bad there weren’t security cameras to see them. Thanks for the video.

do you think it was a person who did this? could it have been a deer who got its antlers stuck in the wire? just a thought. sorry you had this happen no matter what it was. as others stated would definitely get some security cameras.

Since the police were able to retrieve your property, unfortunately you need to contact the prosecutor's office, it looks like your neighbor needs an appearance ticket,so he can explain to the judge why he trespassed on your property and confiscated your property that you for public service use, if you are a ares/races member that's plus in your argument

    • @davemitchell116

Forget the local authorities. This is willful damage to a federally-licensed radio station. The FBI needs to be contacted.
