After watching this movie (I only saw it 2 days ago), I cried and hugged my father, thanking him for being so ON IT when I was a teenager, when I was being bullied, making sure I ate, making sure I had enough food in me, making sure I didn't allow myself to even consider eating less was a good thing. I HATED eating for a long time, thought it was a necessary evil, but thanks to my Dad, I was only underweight for like... A month, he made sure it never got worse. He was THERE every step of the way. And I am SO grateful for it.
Truth number 10, it sucks so much when not even your parents understand how dangerous an eating disorder can be, and when you try to tell them but they don't care much for it it gets complicated. Parents and family should be completely involved during the process of an eating disorder because when there's an eating disorder in someone's life it's also very posible there's depression behind it as well as problems with drugs and alcohol. People should know. I mean that's just my opinion and point of view. It is not about food.
Absolutely! Family based treatment is all about the parents in particular being central to helping their child recover. If you feel comfortable there are some good resources you could share with them - Lock and LeGrange “how to help your teen beat an eating disorder” really helped our family!
Thank you Keanu Reeves, Lily Collins, Retta - director Marti Noxon for recording this fabulous Public Service Announcement in honor of the first historic World Eating Disorders Action Day today June 2, 2016. Please visit our website to Get Involved worldeatingdisordersday.org/
Sometimes families are to blame for eating disorders though, if someone in your family constantly tells you that you are too fat if you are a few pounds overweight by their standards, or forces you to eat till you throw up because you are too skinny by their standards. Freinds, people we have to interact with on a daily basis also often play a major role in this if they make fun of our bodies.
That actually pushed me to an eating disorder. My brother would constantly tell me I was fat. I also grew up in a home where my father was abusive. Family issues do affect eating disorders.
I’m so sorry to hear this - I think often family members have their own MH issues and may even have EDs as well. And of course there are just some really difficult situations. My hope is that if the family is not able to help, there are community members or people at school that can help children/young people. And that hopefully the family members get their own help.
Truth #1 Actually family members are often to blame - this movie completely left out such cases, in fact sometimes it's the family members that constantly tell you that you are to skinny or too fat even though you are actually avarage size, exercize regularly and haven't missed any meals before being critisized, and then you develop an eating disorder as a result of the nasty, annoying remarks.
All these truths are too true. Im 17 and am having my second admission into the adoloscent mental health ward after three months of being FREE to target and overcome my eating disorder (hopefully). But its such an exhausting battle, i cant believe I havent given up! Gotta find the light in something though.
You can laugh, but I cried when I watched this. I mean, these truths hit me and now i have hope that I'll get better and these words from the cast are supporting for me to get better. Idk, i don't understand myself, why i cried?
The only problem is no all can get the treatment or intervention because of the economic problem. I am fighting so hard to get the help my 16 years old need , is been ready hard because I have 2 kids with special needs too , one is autistic(13 year old) and the youngest cerebral palsy(6 years old). We been struggling really hard yo get the medical help for my teenager I feel so devastated. I am scared I will lose my child because of the ED . My teen is been injured himself too .
After going through an eating disorder this has never seemed more true it was crazy... I never felt good enough.. it started when I was 11 and it's still going on and I just hate myself
Families CAN BE TO BLAME, abusive families need to be identified. E.g., just look at the high rate of child sex abuse in anorexics of all genders, and remember that most child sex abuse is perpetrated by a person the child knows, often a family member. Pretending that having an ED automatically prevents you from possibly having TERRIBLE FAMILIES is detrimental and it is cruelly disbelieving of the many people who report things like anorexia by proxy, which means that a parent WANTED an anorexic child and deliberately did things to lead their child in that direction, or wants them to stay anorexic once they develop it, for very similar reasons to the motives of Munchausen's by proxy.
Last "truth" that recovery is possible. Ha ha ha I have been battling AN for over 35 years, see the best psychiatrist in the country but so far away from recovery. Maybe I should have been hospitalised but it is too late now.
Don’t give up! You can recover at any age! Read some of June Alexander’s writings. AN does a number on your brain and it’s really tough to dig out of that hole especially if you’ve suffered for a long time. Please don’t give up
I agree with all of these EXCEPT for #2. Families absolutely can be part of the cause and an ongoing problem preventing recovery. If you have family members who actively shamed you or encouraged unhealthy behaviors knowing the dangers, if they were abusive to the individual, and if they gaslight their offspring into thinking that there is no problem and that's just in their head... how are you going to say that families can't be to blame?? It's probably much more accurate to say: Families are OFTEN not to blame (but sometimes are), and they MAY be allies in recovery (if they try to be and don't deny the illness or its seriousness).
No shade but Cast: Eating disorders can effect people of any age, weight, gender or race Movie: *has a cast that's almost entirely skinny, young, white girls where the lead actress loses a ton of weight to play her role*

Inkk Vibe or when family is abusive and through that abuse you feel like you are worthless and develop an eating disorder.
That actually pushed me to an eating disorder. My brother would constantly tell me I was fat. I also grew up in a home where my father was abusive. Family issues do affect eating disorders.
Inkk Vibe it should have been "families are not always to blame."
melanie juarez me too
I’m so sorry to hear this - I think often family members have their own MH issues and may even have EDs as well. And of course there are just some really difficult situations. I love this! Such a good video to spread to bring awareness

I was always told I was sickly skinny. I believe that's one of tge causes that I'm ana.

I only just realised it was her, watched the film 'bout 3 times as well.

Why doesn't this movie have a trailer yet ?
Probably because it is too early. It will premier on Netflix in August.

I remember seeing this commercial
I love Ciara bravo! I related to her character in red band society
That's because both Emma Chota, and Ellen, played by Lily Collins, have an Eating Disorder called ''Anorexia'', as you know.
This is very true

Lily Collins 3
Yes yes and yes.
liked the way keanu did say
did keanu reeves ever have an eating disorder
Not that we are aware - but he starred in the film To the Bone. Lily Collins his ci star however did suffer
@@AmyECunningham ohh ok

The👏first👏one👏
They forgot that its more about control than anything else.
Hi Ashleigh - that was on purpose! Ed’s do have behaviors that are about controlling things but the cause of an ED isn’t control.
penelope from reign!
I have anorexia
So there's no trailer?
No, it should drop soon though, the movie is set to premiere in august this year
I hope that I remember about this movie by then.
tina andersen it's out now
