I’ve got a couple of buddies that drink a 12 pack of beer every other night after work and then complain to me that they can’t get rid of their gut. Well, no shit!

Cut down drinking to only Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun. Makes a big difference. Also have used the "fake drink" thing at bars when not on weekends and it works, nobody questions it except when you drive off after having 5 sodas with lime.

Great work! For me i didn see improvements when i cut down to every 2 weeks or 30 days. I lost 20 pounds but i couldn't lose my belly. I guess women's bodies are different to men? However now im trying 50 to 60 days in between to see if that works n doesn't interfere in my progress. Im working out 5 days a week, 4 with weights and one with hiit cardio. Weekends to rest or short walks. I think its different if you already have muscle n toned body. N probably can get away with 2 or 3 weeks but not if ur still trying to lose some fat.

I recently turned 30 and havent drank since december 29th 2019. Everything you are saying, is exactly what I have been saying to myself. I have lost 10kg and training 3 times a week. Feel like a did when I was like around 20. I have wasted so much time and money on drinking and nights out. I had to cut people of my life because all they want to do is drink every weekend. I will drink again, but like you said I would prefer to do it for an occasion.

Used to predrink straight out of the vodka bottle like a crackhead. My secret tip was to mix vodka with fruit squash so it hydrates you and has 0 extra calories. Even then I would miss a fair amount of workout sessions the next day and definitely have a shitter diet. I'm glad you made this video. I feel like a whole bunch of guys are stuck with a conflict against British drinking culture and trying to make gains

I’ve stopped drinking a year ago, started going to the gym. Changed my diet. And i’ve lost 50 pounds! I’m even beginning to put some good muscle on. I feel very proud of what i’ve done in just a year. It all started with getting sober. Getting drunk 2 or 3 nights a week can really be a bad thing!

I used to go out almost every weekend with my friends. When I was 19 I used to be one of the only guys from my friend group going to the gym.
And I’ve heard about you know, surrounding yourself with like minded people. If you want to be jacked, look to hangout with people who prioritize nutrition and gym etc. But shortly after one by one my friends started wanting to join the gym. And here we are years later, I still have the same friends, we all love the gym, we’re all way more jacked and loving life.
I get paid weekly so the source of wanting to go out was very common. But now we’re all on track, we’re saving our $ and to be honest “going out” wasn’t as fun anymore when you go out every single weekend.
That’s why we save those special nights for friends birthdays or gatherings and save the hangover for those few times a year. And my physique, my bank and my liver thanks me for it. And I hope whoever reads and has a similar predicament, make the change! You don’t have to erase your friend group, but make sure you work on yourself. And if your friends want to join the train to Gainsville, then all aboard!
    Great vid Mike!

Then they'll say getting a 6 pack is impossible unless you have no life when they're rocking dad bods at the beach or sitting on the bench every Sunday because they can barely run for 20 minutes without collapsing.

I think what a lot of people don’t realize is that some people have the desire to always get drunk so we can “ease up,” on liquor. Men approach women more when their drunk/women become flirtatious and willing to make out with a stranger when their drunk. After 3 weeks it’s easy to not want to get drunk, but the first few weeks sucks because you realized how boring/flawed you are 😐

    • @redbull19733

@@betteryourself452 Totally agree with you. And besides that, I think drinking alcohol is part of group behavior/herd mentality. Not to sound old and wise, 46 here and in the best shape of my life. An example, I have this new girlfriend about the same age as me. She's still a party girl and drinks excessively at times. For the rest, we have a lot in common and making fun (without excessive drinking). This whole alcohol thing, I am not a fan of it, and she knows that very well. She is also attracted to my fitness level and physique and that makes her a bit insecure. it's a lifestyle, I said. There's nothing wrong to better yourself and you have an own will also, but you have to want it too. She comes from a background where parents and other family are serious alcohol abusers and normalized it. They are all overweight and having health issues, still having that party attitude. It is and looks a bit pathetic in my eyes. So she did go to a few parties drinking much less or sober. She also admitted that these parties suddenly became a bit boring and annoying. It made her thinking... Excuse me for probably bad English writing, I am Dutch. ;-)

@@redbull19733 hello sorry for the late reply. You're english is actually quite well. To be honest, I was honestly going through what your girlfriend was going through. I'm 25 years old, so I moved to Miami to live the extravagant party life. I use to think living the party life and having the beach body was, "attainable," at the same time, however the longer i was living in Miami, the harder it was to want to be in the best shape of my life because of the drugs and alcohol i was doing. I guess what I am trying to say is, it humbles me that despite you and your girlfriends age, it is still ok to live your life and keep it at a balance. 2020 has been a wake up call for me (especially the covid-19 impact), so i think it's officially time to take a break from the fast life :) hope you are doing well.

But having a lower general level is what makes me crave some UPs. And Alcohol does bring it. Even though it’s a depressant (weird). But anyway. I’m not saying it’s worth it to drink even for people with lower levels of general feel good. It’s just that I find myself without alcohol as either Stoic or angry. I wish I liked weed. Anyway. Great video Mike, I can totally relate to this issue. I'm 23 and going out is one of my biggest hobbies. The best tip from me for this dilemma is actually to try to just not drink at all when you go out. You might feel weird at the beginning but after some time, when you come in some kind of happy 'outgoing' state, you feel equally social and happy as if you were when you consumed lots of alcohol. You just need to just cross some kind of border for this. Just try it out people ;)

Love your videos Mike, there's always something new to learn from each and every single one of them!
I myself, have never been a big of a drinker, specifically, this is because it has always been quite hard for me to build my physique, and when you see all your hard work being thrown away out the window for some hours of "fun" you know it's not worth it. Now whenever I drink, it's mostly occasionally and it feels like it's a celebration, and most important you appreciate it more, to be honest.
I appreciate all the ideas you share in your content and I find myself very familiar with these situations in which, you are "the strange guy" by not drinking and pretending you have a drink in your hand, just so that others don't bother you with joining them in drinking so you can feel as "you are a part of something". 🤣

Think you gotta be careful if cutting food to make room for alcohol calories on a day you know you are going to be drinking, as a uni student in the UK feel this is not the most sensible idea as you need carbs etc to line your stomach prior to alcohol - from personal experience not eating enough before a night of drinking can go pretty badly... I understand people with proper goals for their physique probably won't drink so much this matters but for students etc think realistically you just have to put the drinking calories behind you and get on with things

I really appreciate this video. The last several years I’ve gone the first 6-7 months with no alcohol intake. I spend that time eating clean and exercising 5-7 days a week. So by mid Summer I’m ready to “loosen up”. I’ll drink about every other weekend and enjoy more pastas and refined carbs. No binging, nothing completely asinine, but definitely not as strict. Then come January it’s back to business. I find it brings me good balance. Again, thank you for the video and the time you put in.

i need to find a healthy balance between fitness and living. Sometimes I'm too hard on myself and don't let myself enjoy anything. I will not have sugar, drink nothing but water, won't go out to eat with friends, etc. That deprivation often leads to me going on an absolute binge where I just go mad, eating like 3 trays of oreos or some shit. It's weird because although I look better than most people could dream of looking, my self confidence is almost at an all time low resulting from my fitness journey. My muscles are never as full as I would like them to be, and they probably never will because I will always crave more. My social life has taken a hit. And when I go on my binge episodes I feel nothing but hatred towards myself for my lack of control.

From personal experience and coming from a person who gyms religiously, tracks macros, writes ever rep set and exercise down etc.
Do not train on the day you are going to have a heavy drinking session that night, it's detrimental to muscle growth, maybe do a light session if you want just for a bit of a pump but don't go all out. You won't give your muscles a chance to recover and get stronger, you've just broken the muscle down and now you aren't giving it adequate rest or nutrition to rebuild. in my experience you can even get weaker. For example I have noticed if I do a heavy chest session then drink heavily that night, not only will I be sore for a few days after on my next chest session I'll even be a bit weaker.
Training the day after drinking I say is fine as long as you are adequately hydrated and have eaten enough, I'd say go in the late afternoon or at night though when you've had a bit more chance to rest and fill up on food. I've never noticed a drop in performance or felt weaker, maybe just have pre workout on this day and you are good to go.

Awesome video man, after today I quit the booze for a month and plan on not starting again. Not drinking makes dieting, leanbulking and training in general so much easier. Also, I think many people like myself cant have ''only a couple of drinks'' which makes drinking in general not worth it. • @CFCMAMO1
      @CFCMAMO1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

nah man. the reality is that you either see them less or not at all. It sort of happens naturally because their social setting is always around alcohol. after work drinks, weekend drinks, dinner... with drinks and then a big night. etc. One thing I've learnt while doing a 12 month no alcohol thing is that you actually don't enjoy being in that setting especially when you're sober (too old for clubs and raves but even bars, house parties etc.) and, if it's the only way you see each other, then you won't see each other as you stop going out. Unfortunately that's usually the case. It's not necessarily about how your friends react to your drinking habits but rather your lack of interest.

Alas, I let go of all my old drinking friends and started looking for a whole new bunch of people to bring into my life- sober, healthy, straight people on the right track, the complete opposite of people I hung around with when I was in my 20s. My advice to people is stop hanging out with people you went to high school/college with.
