I dont think Tosen himself qualifies to be on this list. At worst, He's morally grey. His motives were pure, and he didn’t cause unnecessary pain and suffering. Even the killing he did do (like when he betrayed his squad) would have happened anyway. Removing Tosen wouldn't change their fates. At the end of the day, Tosen is more guilty by association than anything.
Plus, look at Uryu. Instead of killing the powerless invader, he simply knocked him unconscious with his shikai. That tells us alot about his true nature compared to Gin, Mayuri, Aizen and so on.
Yeah, I dont see Ichibe as evil. Ruthless and condescending, certainly, but not evil.
Gin is the man who sold his soul for the chance to kill the devil... and failed. I love his story so much. That said, he himself recognized that he had become twisted and questioned if forgiveness was even possible.
I dont think Gin is Itachi. Gin is Shikimaru when going after Hidan in order to avenge Asuma. Take that arc and extend it to over 110 years and you have Gin.

Tokinada tops. Unsurprisingly he's typical of the average noble. He points this out when meeting with Yoruichi and Soifon, stating that he can't understand why he's seen as evil when the other nobles are just as nasty as him and would happily join him in his plan for aggressive war so long as they get more power/control from it. Yoruichi sadly laments that this is true. Learning the truth molded him, laughing like a maniac as he did.

I know these are sorta powerscaling statements but it is a shonen, Gin says no one has the strength to defeat Aizen when he bodies every captain and vizard and that he had to wait for Aizen to let down his guard, sort of like how Yama as strong as he was had to let Aizen hit him to get him. I think Gin understood that the only way to get Aizen was the way he did and it even worked he just didn't count on the hogyoku being spiritually linked with Aizen. I can't remember the quote but theres a chapter that has a poem about Gin being a snake not bc he betrayed the gotei, he betrayed Rangiku by becoming this warped person who wasn't the man she fell in love with. Damn dawg Kubo really punishes anyone who tries to get revenge in this story as harshly as possible, great video!!

Yes, when it comes to revenge, kubo does not play around 😭 Thanks btw!

  • @Intrepid_Explorer
    @Intrepid_Explorer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Definitely agree with your assessment of Gin, although I would like to play devil's advocate and say that Gin really didn't have any conceivable way of forewarning the Gotei 13 of Aizen's plans/true nature considering that like them, he too had been placed under the influence of Kyoka Suigetsu. So realistically any attempt of Gin's to try and pass along information to the Gotei could have easily been a trap of Aizen's outright, so it's at least a bit understandable why he kept that info to himself-he couldn't even trust his own senses.
At the end of the day his silence not only kept him alive, but also allowed him to get closer to Aizen, so it was arguably the correct decision to simply bide his time and wait for a moment of vulnerability and hubris from his foe.

    • @CaptainHavoc
      @CaptainHavoc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

If I were Gin then I would try something akin to steganography. Surely the SS had intel networks that even Aizen wasn't fully tapped in to. Once a month I'd send an article to the head of the Onmnitsukido (Soifon). If she doesn't make the other captains aware of it, then I'd keep sending articles. After a few years of this I'd send a message to Soifon saying "read the first letter of each article." It would spell out something like
      "There is a tray-tor amogus. Z controls the 5 senses. Be careful of 1 9 26 3 13"
This way, even if Kyoka Suigetsu is somehow rigged to alert Aizen any time someone says his name (just being careful), or if it's rigged to change Aizen's name when someone says it in an accusatory manner, then this would bypass it. And the numbers 1 9 26 3 13 correlate to Aizen's name spelled in romaji.
Basically you have to alert them in a way that gets them to think with logic. If you just say "Aizen is a traitor" then, for all we know, KS is rigged so that the person hearing you will be deaf to it. But if it's a code that they have to break down and deduce, then simple sensory deprivation won't be enough.
And once the head of the onmitsukido realizes all of their intel is tapped by Aizen, they'll open new com channels while maintaining appearances with the old.
Mayuri would also be a good choice to reach out to. He most likely should be able to create anti-zanpakuto fields like Szayelaporro did. If anyone can operate outside KS it would be Mayuri. Urahara is also a good choice but reaching him without alerting Aizen might be impossible. Only way I'd approach Urahara is by encoding messages into his favorite television shows.
You know what pisses me off though? Nimaiya knew what Aizen was up to all along. He knew of every instance in which Aizen visited Hueco Mundo or the living world when he wasn't supposed to. He probably knew exactly how kyoka suigetsu was being used at any given moment.
They didn't bother alerting the soul society because they are totally screwed in the head. Even if helping SS might help them defend the palace, they won't do it. They'd rather risk getting burned than lift a finger to help SS.

the most interesting part of aizens character is that he's not really that evil compared to other shinigami. He didn't want the destruction of any world, he didn't even care to actually kill any of the captains. he had every chance to finish off his arch nemisis kisuke and just didn't even bother. He didn't want to change much about the way the soul society worked other than who the soul king was. He believed the soul king and squad zeros rule to be illigitmate and an affront to his personal values and sought merely to take that role over himself. There was a solid chance that other than the people of karakura town no one would really have died or even noticed what happened after aizen went to the soul palace.

Pretty sure the Turn Back the Pendulum flashback arc showed Akon as a child 101 years ago so I don't believe he was around for Senjumaru. As for Gin, adding to what others have said, he also saw first hand what Aizen and Tosen did to the previous Captains. In one night squads 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, and the Kido squad lost their Captains and or Vice Captains. All by two non Captain(though clearly Captain level) Shinigami. In other words, imagine 29 combatants ranging from Espada 1-6 power wise, almost all with absurd hax, and that is the Sternritter. Send 16 in, remove the ability to use Bankai, and it's no wonder the Gotei got reamed in the first invasion.

Yes! Thank you for discussing Gin like that. I'm always kinda shocked when I see a big part of the fandom treat him as some sort of hero who switched to our side. To me it really seems like him watching Ichigo's growth is just a contingency plan in case Aizen survives. Gin's methods only serve his interest. He wants to avenge Rangiku and that is the sole motive for killing Aizen. Aizen being a terrorist, a mass murderer and a conspirator for hundreds of years, Gin doesn't even care about that enough to cooperate with the Gotei 13.
And apart from Rangiku, he is an inherently cruel person. Him crushing Rukia's resolve before her execution is a scene that always stays in my head. He had absolutely no reason to torture her like that, Aizen was at the Central 46 and didn't watch Gin, so it definetly wasn't some kind of "I pretend to be evil so Aizen trusts me" situation. That mental torment he put Rukia through seems to be just for entertainment.

As a Gin #1 favorite, I have never thought of him as any some sort of savior. he wanted his revenge for rangiku and he got washed in his ideals basically. i also think he was always misguided or corrupt from the start. tbh he seems like the kid who would burn ants with a magnifying glass and continued on with that sort of life and ideals.
It’s also like what would he do when he got back to soul society after “killing” aizen. he’s a terrorist himself and would either be exiled (like urahara) or kept in the muken (like aizen). *no matter what he’s irredeemable BUT i think that’s why he had to die, there’s nothing left for him.* i was hoping he would be brought back in the Hell arc with a new purpose or something.
He’s my favorite because of his mysterious character design, he has some of the coolest clothing and physical designs, his bankai, and his “kill” against aizen was so badass, and he died one of the best deaths, definitely top 10 for me.

The way I see it Aizen is a narcissistic gentleman who wanted to prove that Shinigami are nothing more than cogs in a machine.
Ginjo is a foil to Ichigo and went rouge when Soul Society deceived him.
Yhwach wanted to merge the worlds together to it's original state because he could not bear the death of every soul that returned to him.
Tokinada Tsunayashiro reminds me a lot of one of my all time favorite antagonist. Nimura Furuta.

As a huge Gin fan, I have no idea what people are saying about Gin, I thought it was a *no brainer* to say he was “bad and irremediable.” How is he supposed to go back to the soul society if he even succeeded…or lived? And in the end, it was all for naught anyway because Aizen lived. The lengths he went through to *intentionally* play the bad guy and be heavily unregarded by most soul society before even being revealed as a villain.
He went through ALL of Aizen’s plans, and he tbh shouldn’t live BUT I wouldn’t have minded if he lived and went into hiding (because he’s my favorite), then showed up out of nowhere in TYBW or the light novels. My next hope is the Hell Arc but there are suggestions that debunk that, so we won’t know.

A chance to hear talk about Mayuri? Yes please.
As for Gin. I just do not think he ever thought he had any chance of telling anyone. At least not without Aizen finding out. Considering he knew just how dangerous Aizen was, he may have thought assassinating him was the only possible way to eliminate a true danger.
If Aizen wanted to kill civilians, nothing could stop that. If Aizen wanted to do this or that, nothing could stop it. For years on years Gin had to just move along with the flow constantly waiting looking for a chance to kill Aizen. And he did not find a chance like that for how long?
Why could he not just run off and tell people, somehow? How. Aizen already had anyone that mattered effected by hypnosis. Anyone not effected, how do you know that. Not only can you never know if you are even in the room you think you are with the people you think you are. Even if you are, the people around you may hear you say and do completely different things to what you do. And you never know for sure what is what or if Aizen is right behind you. I dunno. @@CaptainHavoc I mean, Aizen knew. So he may never have left a good opening over all those years. It took years just to figure out he had to touch Aizen's sword to get around its effect... Although. I mean even that is pretty messed up right. For, sure you are grabbing and holding onto a sword. But how do you know its really Aizen's?
Anyway, yea, he probbaly only first got a real chance as Aizen first at that point let his guard down enough. And even then it was likely a rushed thing because he could not push it off any longer.
And Gin had no idea he would be cheated like that. Nobody hinted to him that the stupid ball was hax to the level of being in Aizen even after being taken out of Aizen. Like...
Nothing Gin ever did in his entire life really matter, right. The people he killed. They would have died anyway because Aizen wanted them dead.
I am trying to like think of what he could possibly do. But like Gin said. He really thought he was the only hope of killing the guy.
I mean, let us just pretend right. Gin learned about AIzen's hypno powers and somehow managed to tell the higher ups. Now what. Aizen would learn of it right away. The main guys are still under the effect of his sword. So now everyone is like "Oh dear! Aizen really is a horrible guy. We need to deal with him right away. But how." A captain says. Then Aizen twinning his moustache to the side in taking on the role of some random guy goes "Well yes. Most troublesome. However surely we should be able to handle one rouge captain. Lets make sure to take this seriously guys."

For one tosen even saw himself as irredeemable for his quest of seeking revenge and all the bad stuff he did to seek revenge on the soul reapers. Its why he asks to put him out of his misery if he faulters to the soul reapers or that he will take himself out even if aizen succeeds cuz he doesn't see himself as fitting in aizen's possible world if aizen had won. He outrate states he hates soul reapers and that he doesn't even want to be one anymore thats why he seeks to become a hollow with hollowfication. I think all the experiments aizen and tosen did with hollowfication were to help tosen get closer to stop being a soul reaper and just be a real hollow. Its why in nothing but the rain we see tosen so mad that white failed when it targeted a quincy in masaki and self destructed and never completely found a soul reaper candidate.Tosen was obviously heavily invested in his quest to become a complete hollow. Thats how much tosen despised being a soul reaper. Its so interesting that both tosen and gin wanted revenge for a girl and they both end up being killed by their own boss in aizen. Also both die on a rubble of rock i dont think that was a coincidence by kubo.

That's not why Tosen wanted Aizen to kill him. Tosen was afraid. He even explains this to Hisagi. The thing he feared most was being assimilated by the Soul Reapers. Of genuinely becoming one of them, in body AND mind.
Tosen was terrified that his resolve would not be strong enough to overcome his friendship with Komamura and his mentorship of Hisagi. That during their inevitable battle, he would falter and end up joining them. So he begged Aizen to kill him should that ever occur. In other words, it wasn't a sense of "I don't deserve redemption." When he becomes a hollow he shows his true colors, the first thing he ever sees is sajin and he outrate calls sajin ugly, does that sound like something a friend would say to another friend? Ichibei's plans for Ichigo aren't justifiable. It's not a question of saving one life for billions. It's about the status quo. Ichibei would have done what he did to the Soul King to Ichigo. There's no need for that when you can make him a "living" Soul King as Yhwach was albeit against his own will following the death and subsequent absorption of the Soul King. This was Aizen wanted to do, taking the empty throne for himself and ruling like a proper king.

This is why I don't understand why people call Ichibei evil.
Yes, he wanted to forcefully turn Ichigo into the linchpin but it remained a thought. Kyoraku clearly had a hunch at what he was planning but could he have intervened to save Ichigo a life?
I mean this is why Kyoraku gave Ichigo's friends and family soul tickets

Not necessarily. We don't know the specific parameters for being the battery for the universe. It's possible that, like any normal battery, the Soul King must stay in a special location, continually pouring his energy into the universe. Which would explain the crystal. If so, that would mean that Ichigo, at best, would be forced to sit and rule from a "throne" for eternity. Which would also explain why Shunsui thought it would be a living hell for Ichigo.
Maybe Urahara could have modified it so the entire Palace could be his throne, allowing Ichigo to move around at least, but that's as far as I see it going.
Though, again, all of this is speculation as we don't know the requirements for maintaining the universe beyond the necessary power level
