We gave them the territorial rights to the South Bay & the Fisher saved the Giants but would never return the favor when we needed it other than granting them amnesty at Sutter Health Park. With how rhis organization went to GREAT LENGTHS to drag their fans thru the mud I sincerely doubt any significant portion will follow them besides keeping up with the players we love like all the others who got traded or let go before them.
Good point. People forget how close the Giants were to moving from San Francisco in 91-92 (to Tampa Bay!) and how Haas allowed Giants' ownership some territorial flexibility to keep them in San Francisco or at least the area. Years later, that good will was not reciprocated by the Giants. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.
The food vendors told me all debit/credit “tips” were going to John Fisher and were subtly asking for cash tips. Begging for a few dollars that Fisher wouldn’t let them have. True or not, this is what the poor employees were reduced to. I’m devastated.
Born in 88, been going to the coliseum since 88. The Oakland coliseum is my second home. This whole saga is an absolute travesty. I WILL NEVER BE A GIANTS FAN, most of us never switch. I live in the Sacramento area now and I honestly have no idea if I will go to a game, the price of tickets are already outrageous. I’m just sad my 2 year old will never experience the coliseum like me and my dad watching McGwire hitting moonshots and Henderson stealing 2nd. My last hope is John Fishers Vegas plans falling apart and him forcing to sell the team. Fuck Manfred and Fuck Fisher, I’m out.
John Fisher bought the County’s half of the Coliseum property. And never thought once to build on the most logical place in the East Bay. It is all on A’s ownership.
@aaronblaylock2092 “That’s not Oakland’s style” that’s exactly the point! Modern baseball is moving on from ghetto stadiums in ghetto neighborhoods and is building beautiful new stadiums that people en masse actually want to go to. The only people who actually liked the coliseum were the obnoxious bleacher creatures and people looking for a cheap baseball game. I went to hundreds of games in SF from 2000-2016, and only stopped because I finally moved out of that awful state. I went to three A’s games during that time span and that was at least five too many. That’s how bad the coliseum was.
@@Johnfisher12345 So NYY, NYM, PHL, MIL, TEX, CHW, StL, SEA, PIT, and CIN all got it wrong by building in the parking lot of their past ballpark? Atlanta moved to the suburbs. If the coliseum property was “worthless” to the A’s; why did they spend $85M to buy AlCo’s half? And sorry you couldn’t have fun. And I have done the opposite; over 100 games in Oakland since I moved to the Bay Area; 5 games there. And the other ballpark is nice. Something was wrong when every network in the bay area was anti-Oakland, even the network that was in Oakland (KTVU 2). It was like the whole bay area was working to get every team out of Oakland.
I could see this potentially turning out ok for Athletics fans in Oakland. Look- back 15-20 years ago the Athletics ownership were eager to build a ballpark in San Jose and they even had a corporate sponsorship and the park was to be called Cisco Field. My point is that Sacramento is roughly the same distance from Oakland as San Jose- or at least in the same ballpark. My final point is that if Sacramento can keep the A's and build a nice retractable roof ballpark- I personally like the design of Chase Field and would use that as inspiration- this could be a WIN for everybody involved. I just really hope they stay in Northern California for my own personal best interests tho also because ALL of California is baseball hotbed and has been for years
I was a fan in attendance yesterday and I talking to folks from AP and offering to speak to them and let them take a picture of my Oakland Forever sign and they told me as media they can't do that. Apparently there are things they aren't allowed to report or capture accurately. So you did get a watered down version of the raw emotion yesterday at the Coliseum.
Where was all that emotion the other 80 home games every year? You only showed up for the last game, but none of the others. You aren’t true fans, you’re just complainers and whiners. You should have supported your team by showing up. Your actions speak way louder than your words.
@@Johnfisher12345 Bro you shouldn't pop off and give your lil 2 cents when you have NO idea of what you're talking about. I went to 3 games alone just this week. I feel bad for people like you who haven't experienced something so great, just save it.

I cannot continue on with MLB after this. That's just me. I'm an Oakland native and this insult of allowing the bad guy to win...too much. Too much. Cannot forgive it. I haven't watched football since the Raider left and same for NBA. It sucks but I won't allow this punch to the gut to just be, "ok"....no. Done. Out. If the A's ever came back (not counting on it) sure I would be head over heels...but...Bye MLB..FJF and Manfred and the Billionaire Bros who consented to it
They tried to get a new stadium for 18 years. After they built Mt. Davis, it was no longer a baseball stadium. I blame the city of Oakland, and the women who run it.
As a resident of Sacramento and a lifelong A’s fan (40), there is a HUGE. A’s fan base here in Sacramento. Although I do 100% agree they should stay in Oakland, but the A’s will have support here in Sacramento. As fans, we are not too happy with watching a major league game in a minor league ballpark. But there won’t be any fans jumping to Giants fan base.
Thank you for covering this story...I was there and when the 7th hit I lost it 😢 Where else will MLB get such a diverse set of fans? I also go to handful of Giants games right across the Bay, the stands are filled with people on their phones. MLB is already losing inner city kids like the next Ricky Henderson or Bip Roberts...Curt Flood!
Major sports league commissioners and board executives should really start vetting who they allow to own/buy a team. Fisher literally destroyed two historic teams (the other being San Jose Earthquakes) and he does not care. The A's are literally part of Oakland identity and MLB allowed Fisher to do what he did. I bet you that he wasn't even at the final game.
rumor has it the projected ticket prices right now, River Cats seats behind home plate are $40, but are $80 and up for the A’s.. that was reported in May 2024
We lost the A's but we still have baseball! We have the Ballers they play right here in West Oakland at Ramandi Park and they are GOOD their inaugural season they came within one game of going to the pioneer league championship! They have true talent so much so the Red Sox bought one of their pitchers earlier this season. The tickets are inexpensive roughly 25 bucks and the crowds in true Oakland fashion are rawkus and fun. So yeah we lost the A's but now it's on to plan B! Go B's! See you at the ballpark!😊
Oakland A's fans still supporting John Fisher and this organization once they leave is like visiting your once favorite restaurant and the chef welcomes you back, looks you in the face and spits into your food as he serves your plate. Bon appetit 😦
You can continue to support the A's without supporting Fisher. I'm not talking about supporting with money, but with your heart and fandom. The A's aren't John Fisher.
@@Chris-i9f6q What makes it hard is we love the players. Billy Beane is a genius at finding talent. It just sucks that things are going down like this. Then parallel paths happened, ticket prices went up, relocation fees were waived.
@@smokey5100 That rooted in Oakland phrase made me really nervous. It seemed phony and suspicious. I think if ownership had taken a chance and spent money to keep players, combined with upgrading the coliseum, or building a new stadium on the same site, combined with better PR, then fans would come in droves and we would stay in Oakland. Fisher wants people to give him the money before providing the product. If he had taken a chance and invested in the team, I think it would have paid off.

John Fisher killed the A’s, but many others have blood n their hands - Manfred, the San Francisco Giants, the other owners, and the national baseball media all helped kill baseball in Oakland. Exactly!! Bunch of badwagon hypocrites who have bought into the gaslighting against John Fisher. It’s hilarious, yet sad at the same time. Such total ignorance.
Owners have shown no backbone on this issue. Fisher should have the franchise taken away from him full stop. He is a cancer on the game and how the other owners have allowed this to fester is so messed up.
I think what happens to the Athletics is that Sacramento and Las Vegas don’t work. By the end of the decade, they are contracted. It would be the first time that the players would allow it. With the changes in regional sports TV, it may not be in the first team to contract by 2025.
I am guessing that if there are fans in Oakland who adopt a new MLB team immediately, it would likely be in the National league such as the Dodgers or Padres, but not the Giants. It won't be easy to go to another American league team from the same division with the A's either.
We have been A’s fan since 1985 living in San Jose. No way we’re going to be Giants fans. The Giants blocked the A’s move to San Jose. I don’t know about my sons and grandson, but Go Dodgers!
We fans are going to get the blame but John Fisher is the one responsible for taking a well established and respected franchise and turned it into a laughing stock and whilst I have managed to move on to better teams (Phillies & Ballers) I will never forgive or forget and my job going forward is to keep the Oakland legacy alive
You all throw the blame on fisher but MLB, the owners , along with the county & city of Oakland have to get their fair share of the blame ! Guys here's another nugget the concession people and the people who prepare the food for the fans at the Coliseum did not get their health benefits package and are without health benefits from the contractor Aramark. The A's are supposed to pass down the money to pay Aramark to cover the health benefits. The union most likely will end up having to litigate to get the employees their health benefits package not to mention all of them are out of a job.
John Fisher wants to play in Sacramento because the Giants/Vivek worked it out so they could play there FREE because they're desperate for MLB which put Oakland at a disadvantage during negotiations because they were asking for a little more than what Fisher was previously paying but still less than market value and John Fisher decided to turn his back on this fan base to crash on Sacramento's couch not just for free but to also pocket more revenue because he is a cheapskate who can afford but apparently can't afford his spherical armadillo in the desert.

No disrespect to Ann, but I think it would be more accurate to describe the end of Oakland baseball as a suicide. John Fisher metaphorically hung himself with nearly two decades' worth of bad business decisions and even worse PR blunders.
I gave up on MLB and NFL with all the owner greed, constant new stadium building(making taxpayers pay for it) , and threats of relocations. I rooted for the White Sox in the 70s 80s and 90s and now worry they will be relocating too.

Oakland has lost 3 professional sports franchises. You can’t just blame the owner, the communists on the Oakland city council that ran off an NFL, NBA and now an MLB franchise deserve 80% of the blame
Those communists offered the A's millions of free money and were working on dealing with the Oakland port and their concerns, all to help a private business.

Social issues like crime and homelessness and crumbling infrastructure have nothing to do with the A's leaving. Fisher could have fixed the infrastructure of the crumbling coliseum, though.
Ownership deserve blame for A's moving, but the city of Oakland needs take some blame. Maybe the team was run very poorly, but where were the fans over the last few years. The cost to attend games has become very expensive.
If a team's ownership does everything to alienate it's fans for 20 years why should fans want to show up? From the jump they tried to move the team. John Fisher did not murder the A's. MLB voted for the A's to move -- anywhere -- out of Oakland. They didn't have to. They did it because for 30 years the Coliseum was needing upgrades and maintenance from the City and County and got none. The Mayor herself said the City was short $300+M to make the area around Howard Terminal viable. Fisher is a terrible owner but the reason they were allowed to leave was horrible government decisions over years.
Fisher has billions. He could afford the renovations himself. Also do you bot see how asinine it is to make a city themselves pay for a stadium? John Fisher absolutely murdered the A's for Oakland. The bottom, bottom, bottom line is that there are buyers willing to stay in Oakland. Mr. Fisher never knew what it was to want anything. Born into immense wealth. He didn't need to do this. He could have sold and made a profit if he felt he couldn't have made it work in Oakland. The food vendors told me all debit/credit “tips” were going to John Fisher and were subtly asking for cash tips. Begging for a few dollars that Fisher wouldn’t let them have. True or not, this is what the poor employees were reduced to. I’m devastated.
Are you serious??? God, that man is despicable.
Murder . . . excellent description, Ann.
Exactly. It's the perfect spot for a stadium, they didn't need a fancy waterfront stadium, that's not Oakland's style anyway.
But the crowd there isn’t into seeing baseball, but to say “look at me, I’m at a baseball game in the City.” Did the Coliseum need work, of course. But, it was Baseball’s Last Dive Bar. Welcome to everyone.
This isn't true. The A's offered 100 million for the city's half. The city turned it down.
They just sold it for 100 million dollars.
Rob Manfred is a horrible commissioner. So was Bud Selig.
They killed Baseball. Baseball is no longer America's Game because of them.

I just really hope they stay in Northern California for my own personal best interests tho also because ALL of California is baseball hotbed and has been for years
The property at the current site is so big that you could literally build a new stadium there without ever interrupting what's already going on.
That absolutely sounds like our cowardly corporate media.
Where was all that emotion the other 80 home games every year? You only showed up for the last game, but none of the others. You aren’t true fans, you’re just complainers and whiners. You should have supported your team by showing up. Your actions speak way louder than your words.

Franchises are more valuable than ever in 2024
I cannot continue on with MLB after this. That's just me. I'm an Oakland native and this insult of allowing the bad guy to win...too much. Too much. Cannot forgive it. I haven't watched football since the Raider left and same for NBA. It sucks but I won't allow this punch to the gut to just be, "ok"....no. Done. Out. If the A's ever came back (not counting on it) sure I would be head over heels...but...Bye MLB..FJF and Manfred and the Billionaire Bros who consented to it
RIP to one of baseball's best brands. Unfathomable
Fisher, The Last Four Mayors, Oakland City Council, MLB AND the fans (avg attendance: 10K/game.) are all to blame…
Finally someone putting blame on the city like they deserve. Oakland is dump because of the incompetent leadership.
Sacramento doesn't even have a major league minimum stadium, but MLB is still letting them move there. Good call on blaming the right people!
Sacramento is free. Oakland is not. That's the only reason they're playing there until Vegas. Fisher is a cheapskate.
Sac is indeed free, but the main reason Fisher is there is because he would lose tv money if he went anywhere else.
Boycott Sacramento games. Do not give John Fisher a cent. A beautiful venue and a legendary team gone, 600 people out of a job. Shameful!
rumor has it the projected ticket prices right now, River Cats seats behind home plate are $40, but are $80 and up for the A’s.. that was reported in May 2024
We lost the A's but we still have baseball!
People that ask if we will just become giants fans is fucking stupid. I’m done with mlb forever
John Fisher killed the A’s, but many others have blood n their hands - Manfred, the San Francisco Giants, the other owners, and the national baseball media all helped kill baseball in Oakland. I have walked away from baseball after being a life long A’s fan, after baseball walked away from me. For the rest of you, remember, it was my team today - tomorrow it can be your team.
The other owners approved it because they themselves like having a license to exploit markets and go unchallenged if they feel a need to do so.
An embarrassment for MLB to allow this to happen.
I am very bitter and mad at the greedy owner, all MLB owners who voted to move out of Oakland, the sf giants who blocked A's from moving to San Jose (much farther from sf than oakland).
