Yep. Volume is too low . And the line is 4 hungry children not 4 hundred children
I thought it was 400 children when I was a kid
Way too low!!!!!!!
Only saw the smile on your face for 5 min.
4 a few decades I thought it was four hundred children 😅. And I could never understand why he would choose that line. Then Google allowed me to finally know the lyrics.
I thought it was 400 children when I was young😂
I thought it was that too when I was 5. I'm like, "That's a lot of kids."
TURN IT UP!
I hate to complain but the last few videos have been to low in volume even when I have it turned all the way up I can barley hear
I always heard “400 children” when I heard this song as a child. It wasn’t until later that I found out it was 4 HUNGRY children! I love that you heard 400!!!
Lucille been busy! lol
@@lisazaccardimeunier8378 The lady just wanted a break!
Kenny started as a part of "the New Christy Minstrels" Before becoming Lead Singer (and Bassist) to Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. It was with them that he sang "Ruby, don't take your love to town" and "Just Dropped in (to see what my condition was in)"...
BRITT BE AWARE: This was back before Kenny's hair went Silver, and for "Just Dropped in" I think you'll FLIP to see Kenny's Retro Glasses!
It’s “four hungry children”
Really if it's given some thought, 400 children doesn't make logical sense. Even a dozen is a lot of kids... 4 hundred? I was amazed that she accepted this, I mean she said wow that's crazy 400 but she didn't stop and consider that maybe she was mistaken and heard this wrong. And she just went through the rest of this song with it being to her 400 children wow lol... If I were her I would have said... that doesn't seem right and move it back to closely listen again, oh four hungry children yes that's better... even when he spoke it during the audience repeat part, she wasn't paying attention and she repeated 400... I think she thought it was a joke in the song to say 400 children and a crop on the field, so that is why she accepted her version of the lyrics and didn't question it...yes I hope Brit sees these comments, I'd like her to know, yes 400 is funny and would have been a great joke in the song but it's actually with four hungry children and a crop in the field...
Ngl for years I thought it was 400 😂 oh shit
You should check out Kenny's first band which was a psychedelic pop/rock/country band. Their big hit was "just dropped in". He originally did "Ruby" with them.
Side trivia the drummer Mickey Jones" went on to have a very long and successful career as an actor with 169 acting credits per IMDB. Anyone from the 70 & 80s will recognize him in a heartbeat.
Definitely check out the First Edition. Kenny plays bass as well. Just Dropped In and Reuben James are great songs.
Everyone has to drop in to hear this song get your condition checked out now.
I was at a number of Kenny's concerts and when he sang this song the audience went wild. Everyone singing the chorus.
Saw him live in the UK a short while before Dolly Parton came here too. She was a huge disappointment, would never pay to see her again. Kenny Rogers was just phenomenal. I have no superlatives enough to praise his performance.
Why was Dolly a disappointment? Never ever heard that!!!
@@johnfleming6236 I can't believe that Dolly could ever be disappointing.
So hilarious that you heard "400 children" as well. As a kid that's what I heard too. It's 4 hungry children. :)
... and a crap in the field. At 5 years old, I couldn't wrap my head around "crop". It's not a word we said. So I just thought he was saying crap. Like a literal pile of crap. In the field.
Britt, please up the volume for the video. I haven't been able to hear it for a few days now.
No the song is not about his parents. It was written by Al Bynum, and Roger Bowling. The strange coincidence. And no, the line isn’t “Four-hundred children”. It’s “Four hungry children”. If you listen closely when he is calling out the words when everybody sings the chorus with him, you can hear it more plainly. But don’t worry Britt, a lot of people apparently make that mistake. My uncle did. It’s a common mishearing.
I misheard it, too. I thought he said four horny children. 🤣
Personally, I like it better that way. It really highlights Lucille's cuntishness.
I highly recommend the song "Ruby"... Kenny Rogers did cover this song, but it was originally released by Waylon Jennings... It was also later released by Mel Tillis, who was also the writer of the song too... One of the reasons Mel Tillis did not initially release it was because of his stuttering problem brought on by a case of malaria when he was a child, yet he had no stutter when he sang.... Mel was also the father of country singer/songwriter Pam Tillis...
I suggest Mel's version of "Ruby" to start with, but Waylon and Kenny more then did the song justice, and are totally worth a listen... I suggest Mel not just because he wrote it, and because it is based on a true story of people Mel actually knew, but also because I don't think you have reacted to Mel yet...
People who stutter don't stutter when they sing. Also when talking to animals.
Everybody hears the lyric as "four hundred children..." the first time or two they hear "Lucille." As you'll discover when listening carefully, it's actually "four HUNGRY children...." As far as I've ever heard, this song's character 'Lucille' is not meant to be his mother...but there's probably a reason why he used her name (other than because it rhymes with 'field'.)
Britt, we can put “400 children” right up there with “there’s a bathroom on the right” that everyone misheard in CCR’s Bad Moon Rising. Love it!!
Since you love Kenny’s storytelling, you really need to listen to Daytime Friends And Nighttime Lovers, about a woman having an affair with her husband’s best friend. Great catchy tune too, as well as a juicy story.
LOL, we intentionally sing "there's a bathroom on the right" when we cover Bad Moon Rising. LOL
@@99sheepy
John Fogerty himself has included the line on a couple of his solo albums, as well as inserting “tangerines and Elvis” for “tambourines and elephants” in Looking Out My Back Door because that lyric was frequently misheard too.
🤣🤣😂😂😭😭👍👍
Haha! My sister and I confidently sang 400 children out of our open station wagon back window like we meant it! Our parents went through a country phase just when cars had 8-tracks players. 😂
Yes, the correct words are "Four hungry children."
The first line “At a bar in Toledo, across from the depot “, I live in a suburb of Toledo. When I got my 1962 Ford Thunderbird, I named it Lucile after this song; When I’m driving her fast, she’s called Lucy after Eric Church’s song “Chattanooga Lucy”, which I recommend listening to, the performance of this at Red Rocks is amazing.
Love your reactions!!
You need to up the volume on the music video. I had my sound all the way up to barely hear him and then when you comment you blast us out. FYI
Turn up the volume of the video, the sound is two low.
This is one of the best sing-along songs of all time. Listen to his duet with Mac Davis of It's Hard to Be Humble. You will really enjoy it .
"You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel..."
🤣🤣🤣
My dad bought this record with him from Jamaica in 1963… Six years before I was even born it was the first song I ever learn all the words too. Kenny Rogers is the ultimate storyteller
When you speak it's loud but when the video of the music playing we can barely hear it
My 5 year old daughter use to sing this for my grandmother .. and her favorite part was when she sang .. 400 children and a crop in the field.. lol
Britt, the video’s volume is really low! Love this song 😅
love this song but couldn't hear it and I have my volume up to 100%
I used to think that it said 4 hundred too! You should listen to Just dropped in, one of my favorites. Stay safe young lady!
He was the 4 child out of eight children and no this is not about his mother it just was crazy his first solo country hit was a song with his mother"s name 😊.
Awesome stage performance, absolutely love it ❤️🔥
Every year we have a huge music and arts festival at a place called Glastonbury. It is so big it uses as much electricity as a city. On of the most loved spots is the Sunday afternoon legends set. People like Dolly Parton Lionel Richie and people like that. One of my favourite moments is when Kenny Rogers sang Lucille. All the kids and the adults joined in . There were thousands of them. Just goes to snow that all ages love a good song Luv ya.
Babe it's 4 hungry children LoL LMAO My wife said the same thing funny as shit love you
One of his very first solo after leaving The First Edition (a rock-folk group of the late 1960s). "4 Hungry Children"
Your volume when you speak is just right but the music volume is very low...2 days now
low video sound up a little bit the volume .your voice is too high than your video make it balance.
The bar he refers to is the country palace . I seen Kenny rogers with mom when I was kid back in the 70’s
Yeah as others have said the last few videos volume was so low even with my speakers all the way up I could barely hear the video you were reacting to. You were for the most part fine but the video you were reacting to itself was just too quiet.
Yesssssss!!!! Very annoying!!
Yes too low sound!
Huge hit, I used to think it was "400 children", too. Kenny Rogers went through a stretch where every single thing he touched turned to gold. He and Willie Nelson both did songs/albums that spawned movies. Kenny's was a lot more fun, and I think more widely seen, as it was a TV movie.
Echo all sound volume comments. The sound on the video (not your voice) has been too low these past few videos.
Lol! Loved your reaction to this song! Everyone loves this song!! :D Yeah, I mishear song lyrics all the time, so I feel you on this one. I see others have corrected you in the comments already, so I won't beat a dead horse. Loved this! X)
one of his earlier hits, around the same time as another: Ruby. His first hit was a singer for a rock/psychadelic band called: Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, I think about 1968. By the way, it's "4 hungry children and a crop in the field". Her husband is a farmer and as the crop comes due for reaping it is the busiest time for a farmer.
Gotta check out Kenny Roger's & The First Edition doing "Ruby"...back when Kenny was a dark haired young man.
'Hungry' children not 400. Now you gotta do 'Ruby'. I used to rock my granddaughter to it and my daughter would scream 'Mother don't sibg that to my baby '
True story - This is the very first song I remeber hearing in my life. I can't even begin to explain how confused I was about this guy's 400 kids
One of the best misheard lyrics....4 hundred (hungry) children....you're not the the first to miss that.
When I was 5, I thought the lyrics were, "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille, with 400 children and a crap in the field."
FOUR - HUNGRY - CHILDREN !!!!!!!!
..... geeeez 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
4 HUNGRY children - can't hear the music too well last few days
"four Hungry Children"
I thought I heard the same lyric when I first heard this song as a kid: "Four Hundred Children...", NOPE! "Four HUNGRY Children..."
You need to turn up your volume
His first hit was "Ruby (Don't Take Your Live to Town)." It's a pretty emotional ballad as well, about a Vietnam War veteran. It came out in the late 1960s when the war was still going on.
This song "Lucille" was his first MONSTER hit.
If you do like balladeers, try Harry Chapin and his song "Taxi" or "Cat's in the Cradle."
Love your reaction to Kenny Rogers "Lucille". Waylon Jennings does a cover of it too and I really like it. Keep up the great reactions.
dang! your voice is 100 times louder than the video,
Turn it up
its four hungry kids but it is really hard to hear lol love your reactions
When I first heard this song I thought he said 400 children as well 😂😂😂
Another big hit (and really deeply moving) is Ruby (Don't take your love to town)
Lovely waltz!
you should check out some of his earlier stuff when it was "Kenny Rogers and the 1st Edition". They were considered Rock
OMG, it's "4 Hungry Children And A Crop In the Field!" Not his mama
It’s four hungry children but for years growing up I thought that’s what he was saying also was 400 children 😂
Could youplease torn up your volume? I can hear you just fine, but I cant hear Kenny Rogers.
Hungry. So much more heart breaking when you get that part.
When I was young I thought it was "400 children and a crop in the field. ' like dang no wonder she left
Maybe it's just me, but the last few days I can hear YOU fine, but can barely hear the video... Anybody else having the same thing?
Turn up the volume of the video!,
Not about his mom.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version. Kenny was older and his voice is probably worn out from singing every night.
Love your reactions, but your audio on the songs are really low, may need to turn the video audio up just a little please.
Ummm .. " 4 .................. hungry ................ children ............ "
------------------
Britt ... please listen ... you keep talking through it .. 4 hungry children !!!
A broken family .. 4 .... HUNGRY ..... CHILDREN !!!!
Geeeeeez ... come on , seriously
Do Kenny Roger's and the First Edition
"I Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In "
Please do the original version of seven Spanish Angels with Willie Nelson and Ray Charles its amazing
B - You're working your way through the catalog of Kenny's best songs, but there's one that's very sweet and will bring a tear to your eye -- "You Can't Make Old Friends." This is a duet by two professional soulmates: Kenny and Dolly Parton. He recorded it as his farewell to Dolly at the time he retired. The song runs about 4 minutes, but this video ( th-cam.com/video/chBNBzE35EI/w-d-xo.html ) includes intro and outro of the two of them sitting together reminiscing about the joy they experienced performing together for decades. After you hear this, it will become your new favorite Kenny/Dolly duet -- easily replacing "Islands in the Stream."
Turn up volume
THERE IS A SEQUEL TO IT, TITLED: "LUCILLE'S ANSWER" PERFORMED BY ELZE ROSE.
You need to check out the group that he started with . . . . . Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
Britt I cant hear it.....mic volume is good....vid volume is too low.....again
So Funny...four HUNGRY children, not four hundred. I had to laugh because I heard 400 also, and I was thinking Lucille was a better woman than I am!! LOL
Britt I think you have the best Elvis reaction I've ever seen.i suggest Elvis interview 1956 hey Gardner it a must see for you will definitely love it he was 21yrs old
"Reddy teddy" on ed Sullivan 1956 and "love me"
Sound is very quiet on Kenny's video
I'm sure a 100 people have told you. It is not 400 children, it is for hungry children... And every time you said it wrong it was like nails scratching on a chalkboard
If something so mundane as a misheard lyric triggers a nails on a chalkboard reaction then you should quit watching and take up coloring or something. Plus, Miss Perfect, you’re the knucklehead who wrote “for hungry children” and OMG, that made me feel like nails on a chalkboard, OMG it was just horrible!! How could you do that??? Great to see that even the perfect ones f**k up!!!
Sweetheart, “ 4 Hungry Children and a crop in the field, you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille!”….. SanJoséBob
Might I suggest a song from Kenny's earlier days. The band is called "Kenny Rogers & The First Edition" -- the song is "Something's Burning" -- I think you'd really like it!
"...with four hungry children, and a crop in the field."
Certainly a classic from Kenny Rogers. I always loved his early songs, probably because I heard them on the radio so much growing up. You'll love "REUBEN JAMES" th-cam.com/video/wsTRCvGiRWk/w-d-xo.html and "RUBY" th-cam.com/video/o8o1D1BP55s/w-d-xo.html. I used to be in the PDC... wow, that was a long time ago. Now, it's "Prunes, Diapers, and Cholesterol meds".
The last few reactions are hard to hear. I can hear you talk very good but the vids have low volume. Still love to watch!
I THINK U MISSED WHAT THE SONG WAS ABOUT.
Sound
I'm not sure if you've heard him and dolly parton singing islands in the stream. It was written by the bee gees. Or George Jones singing he stopped loving her today. If not you should listen to both.
You should listen to “just checking in to see what condition my condition is in”
Four hungry children and a crop in the field.
If this song is about his mom-then it makes even MORE sense that he couldn’t hold her 😂😂😂
I am watching a movie with the saying 400 kids on the farm, meanings animals to take care of
Sorry I haven’t been able to hear the music in the last couple of reactions
That is 4 HUNGRY children.
No!!!!! “4 HUNGRY CHILDREN”……..
“4 HUNGRY CHILDREN”………
- (Not 400 children!!!
Also, his mom was Lucille and his dad a carpenter they didn’t name cause it’s obvious and they didn’t want anybody to worship a false idol. Kenny’s father was Jesus Christ! They both have immaculate beards and both could sing amazingly.
That's four HUNGRY children,
The last few reactions I've watched from you your mic is great but the volume on the video is like a whisper and can hardly be heard.
Don't worry about getting the line "four hungry children" wrong. This song is on the list of the most misheard lyrics.
Britt the videos volume is way too low
Hungry children... LoL
Don't feel bad tho.
For years when this song came out I thought and so did every other teen, that it was hundred
