    You are so very lucky to have a major plant company near you. I'm in Fl. and we just don't have good succulents to choose from. The selection at Lowes and Home Depot
    is lacking so much. I asked when a new shipment would be coming in and the manager of that department said 2 or 3 weeks. So, what does that tell you? I have to order everything from the internet and almost everything comes from Ca. You can just imagine what the S&H cost is. I think I may move to the west.
    Have a great day.

      I water mine for 20 to 30 maybe 40 minutes a week misting in-between. I have over soaked running errands. Following few days a little less then half was rotted. I cut the rotted parts off. Left on the balcony a day or so to attempt to dry it out. Was successful. But was a pain in the ass. A week or so. I still have it. I learned my lesson just say will not do that again

    Very wrong advice on watering. Never use tap water on Tillandsias. It might seriously hurt them. Use spring or rain water. I use bottled spring water, and mine grow like crazy. Sort of doubtful about 12 hour soaking, too. They can actually rot from over-soaking. I soak mine for half hour every week, fully submerging them. Although when they bloom, I only submerge their "butts", as putting water on the flower will likely make it to fall off. They need fertilizing, too. I usually do it once a month, using a special epiphytes fertilizer (mine is called "Epiphyte's Delight"). I don't think he mentions drying them out before putting back into a terrarium. Putting soaking wet Tillandsias into a terrarium can also cause rotting. I just leave mine on a counter top for an hour or so.

      Anna Gray Tap water that has been aged is fine, but direct tap water can burn them as it will have chlorine in it.

    • @johnsaia9739
      @johnsaia9739 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anna Gray I agree, they do need some fertilzing.

    • @mencot89
      @mencot89 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Anna Gray You completely misunderstood the guy..he said tap water that has been resting for 12 hours. And use rain water to really pamper them up. He said what you're saying in this comment lol.

    • @loverslanehawj6244
      @loverslanehawj6244 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anna Gray Thanks for clarifying on using only Spring water. The guy I bought one from didn't specify on that part. He gave me some powder fertilizer and instructed to mix half with water in spray bottle. The fertilizer is a one year supply. I have to find out where to get more when it runs out.

    Epiphytes do not take their nutrients from the air! They take them from bird poop (usually). For a plant to take nutrients (such as nitrogen), the latter has to be oxidized; a plant can take NO3 or NO2, but not N2 (nitrogen gas).
    I know the numbers on the formulae should be small, but IDK how to do that on youtube.

    Awesome show and I absolutely love these guys! I have posted a few things about them on my FB page. I also made some Xmas with these guys glued in shells! I have a kitchen corner window where I have them attached to coral, shells and other things. I can't find those great vented hanger here though. Do you have a place where I can get them shipped at a good price? Talk with you soon.

  • @camper1749
    @camper1749 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    And, surprise surprise! it's not a terrarium.
    Here's the definition of Terrarium so you don't call me and idiot "A terrarium is a sealed transparent globe or similar container in which plants are grown. "SEALED" damnit."

    • @camper1749
      @camper1749 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why you don't build a terrarium with plants like that, you're supposed to use plants like tree moss and seeds. It will produce enough air for everyone.

    • @camper1749
      @camper1749 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So even plant pots are terrariums?

    • @camper1749
      @camper1749 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      emmaisweird For some reason I thought an object cannot be called terrarium if it does not match the definition. Then why do we even have definitions, they seem useless.

    • @briannaharter4411
      @briannaharter4411 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      definitions are great for giving a general idea of what something is.but it isn't owes accurate do to the fact there are exceptions to things and if the word hasn't been updated in awhile there can be quite some confusion.
