for anyone trying to do a change without loosening the hose clamps, the radiator petcock drain plug can also be reached without taking anything off. its on the far driver side of the radiator even on the 1.5T models. you gotta really reach in there. I used one hand to feel out the plug and another to secure a wrench on the tab so i could loosen it, worked like a charm.

Burp the system by letting it idle and warming up to temp with heater and defrost on medium for a good 20 min , when bubbles stop in the holding tank ur good , make sure thermostat opens up u should feel good heat , I keep the cap off till it’s fully burped , check it daily for the next couple of days to make sure ur up to level

That's the one good solid piece of information that wasn't covered AND one that no one should forget to do. Air in the system will cause havoc.

when burping the system by letting it idle with heat, how high will the temperature gauge go? I left mine to idle and the temp gauge just kept climbing. I turned it off before it reached "H"

@@starrebornalpha yes, I did a flush using distilled water. But on every drain and refill it only took about half gallon at a time. I did this 4 times. But I noticed after a few minutes of running, the fluid would leave the reservoir tank. I could have added more distilled water after the few minutes. The high heat, I saw on another video to wait for fans to turn on, I don't think that is necessary since they never did turn on. This on a 2016 Civic 2.0

Here is a hack to get the radiator drain cock open/closed on the Civic 1.5T. I don't know what Honda was thinking with this design.
    1. Remove the air filter cover, air filter, and upper resonator box (hose clamps & 10mm bolts)
    2. Remove the 10mm bolt for the lower resonator grommet just to get more clearance near the drain cock.
    3. Improvise a tool (wooden dow with a sawed notch works) to fit on the drain cock to turn it.
    4. Drain the coolant by removing expansion tank cap and opening drain cock to a catch basin.
    5. Close drain cock with tool and fill/burp coolant to max level. Drive and check level as needed.

I have fat hands and was able to get to the petcock by taking out the two bolts at the bottom of the air intake and two at the top (near the air filter) out. I didn’t have to remove the air intake, just moved it up and back enough to get my meat hooks in there. Wedding ring almost got stuck though so maybe take yours off. I knew better but did it anyway. What a PITA though.

This sounds like you don't have enough coolant in your system. I would check your coolant level make sure the cap is not hot to open. If it's low turn your car on with the heat on and pour more coolant till you can't pour more. Then close the cap and you should have heat anytime

Use a flat head black coated tipped screw driver and slowly go around the hose and pull back each time this should expose the lower radiator entry. Just make sure to move your C Clamp well out the way and it shall budge. By the way invest in a Iisle system best there is when it comes to bleeding air out or your radiator, inexpensive and works great. Good Luck.

The engine light turns as designed to do so by Honda to get drivers into dealerships. You shouldn't have to service and or replace coolant till 210,000 kilometers which is 140k miles. after that it's wise to change it every 70 to 80 k miles to prolong pump / hose longevity. The reality is honda quality has gone down hill. MY 1990 accord went without ever having changed coolant.. OIl changes, CV boots. brakes yes.. sold that car in 2016 with 550k miles and still got 35 hundred, not bad as I paid 15,065 new..

Thats a great return on money for your old Honda! Your right too bad the newer Hondas (or any car for that matter) lasts that long anymore without having to replace everything. I have to fix the windshield washer pump which is a pita because i have to take the bumper off just to get to it! It drives good though.
