I don't have a homestead & at age 68, probably never will. I wanted a sheep farm in my single 20's & 30's. Sadly, that never happened. BUT I wish I had attended for the like-minded women & camaraderie that I think I would have felt. Sounds like a fabulous event. Maybe next year...😊

Never give up! We bought a 72 acre property about 20 min from Polyface and are about to put in our underground greenhouse - and I'm 68!!! I was born on a farm and I wanted to spend the rest of my life working hard outside on a farm. I've worked in tech most of my life and my husband is a jazz guitarist - we have little by way of a background to farm but we are doing it and we love it. We are surrounded by wonderful people and feel we have a deep sense of community for the first time in our lives.

@jom1110 Thank you for your support, but there isn't husband support & I've had 3 major surgeries in 5 years. I'll keep working on few raised beds & my Greenstalks.

I believe you could raise chickens and sheep like me. Takes about 10 minutes at breakfast, 10 at lunch and 10 just before dark. I'm a newbie...but Jesus said His yoke was easy... and it has been. I did fail on the ducks... but with success comes failure. I'm surprised that the 14 chicken are doing so well... and the lambs... You can do it slowly if you want to. Blessings.

I wish I could have been there! Thank you for the encouragement, nonetheless! I incubated eggs donated by my neighbor and her friend from church. 14 hatched. That was in April I believe... and I still have all 14! Eggs abound! Of the 13 duck eggs...3 hatched and finally put outside. A varmint got all three. In June I got a ewe lamb and ram lamb. Both come running to my call! The chickens decided not to use the chicken hutch except to lay eggs in. They sleep outside even in the sub freezing temps we've had.. weird. I've killed 1 armadillo, 2 possum and 6-7 copper heads. It's a learning curve but I think the chicken are alive because I left them natural, unclipped. They fly up on the roof top! Funny birds, free range wherever they want. Then sleep on the grape archway and the pine tree next to it. God is good!
