    The most impressive eating actor I know of is Tim Holt from "The Magnificent Ambersons" (1942). Directed by Orson Welles, at the thirty minute mark there is a four and a half minutes uncut scene of him eating a strawberry shortcake while having a conversation with Agnes Moorehead. They carefully placed the shortcake behind other items on the kitchen table so he's probably just eating whipped cream the whole time, but you have to wonder how many times they filmed that scene before Welles was happy with what he got.

    • @BL00DYME55
      @BL00DYME55 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I hate to break it to you, but I don't think it was just 1 burger. In big productions like this, they tend to shoot multiple takes over several hours, so that burger likely landed on a massive pile of other half eaten burgers. And Pitt was probably feeling sick after eating so many of them, so I don't blame him for taking 1 bite and throwing away the rest.

      @@BL00DYME55 Most movies shoot multiple takes, the size of the production isn't the most relevant factor. Directing style definitely is though. Some directors like Clint eastwood barely ever make a second take. Others like David Fincher can reach up to a hundred takes, and this is not counted in hours but days for a single shot. Throwing the burger in the trash is most likely to show that his character doesn't mind wasting food. If it was related to the actor but not the character, he could have been eating the last bit of the burger at the beginning of the scene instead.

    He said he did a movie where he didn't get to eat due to the movie's schedule so he always negotiated forward that he would snack in scenes.

    I am a hetro guy but think Brad Pitt is ridiculously gogeous even as he ages. He is an under rated actor too. Yes the general consensus is that he is a good actor but I think his amazing acting skills areoften over-shadowed by his amazing looks and incredible body. Whenever i watch him i pay very close attention to his acting. He is COMPLETELY at home on screen. I wrack my brains for any other actor comparable or better looking than Mr Pitt but cannot .He maybe well be a one off. Even todays Teen lust after him and he`s pushing 60. He serves as an inspiraion. I do hope he is a nice guy off stage.

    I don't think there is a causality in Pitt's eating to the increase earning of his movies. Perhaps a correlation at most but there are many factors that go into a movie's financial success.

    Why do actors have these quarks. I always seem to see Johnny Depp in a movie where he's either wearing a hat or lifting a how to into the air. And then you have Leonardo DiCaprio pushing his hair back. You have Brad Pitt he was always has a scene or multiple scenes where he's eating. Is this in their movie contracts? Or is this just a tick of theirs?

    They have Tom Cruise run in every film to show off his running ability. Similarly, they show brad pitt eating in every moview to show off his well developed jaw.

    while a good video, youre missing the key point (which others have stated) that he actually eats the food in his scenes. it looks good and natural because he actually does eat the food

  • @hanh7395
    @hanh7395 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hate it when you see a character dancing the spoon around the food, talking, then move the spoon around, then looks like he/she is about to take a bite then drops the spoon to finish the dialogue, usually wanting to make a point thus stopped eating.
    Like JUST EAT THE FOOD.

    Pitt aside, eating in movies is kind of what smoking in movies used to be like. It's an opportunity to subtly act with your body where there's nothing explicitly happening with your character's body.

    I remember watching a string of Brad Pitt movies one summer, and one day, I had a go at doing an impression of his acting just to amuse myself. Anyway, I immediately looked for something to nibble on, and that's when I discovered he's always eating in his movies, lol. At the time, this wasn't a well-known meme or anything, but now it's everywhere, and it's just funny to see him keep up this little acting quirk.

    I think our species being subconsciously ‘calmed’ watching itself eat is spot on! My wife and I if we eat out always tend to prefer public patios outside or under porches and I’ve noticed in city centers which can be very stressful with rushing and traffic congestions, typical passerby’s tend to slow down and relax when there’s multiple restaurants with people just slowly indulging themselves outside. I’ve noticed this more in men than women, particularly in face, but I’m sure it goes both ways.

    He's good at eating naturally while on scene. So he started doing that more often, and it became a mannerism. He overuses that, and directors overuses that as well, to make the mise-en-scene more "real and natural". Easy as that.

    Pit and Jolie’s 2005 Mr. & Mrs. Smith has long been one of my favorite action movies. Specifically, their dinner scene (after they’ve now found out each other’s secret but are trying not to play their hands) stands out as one of the best, most tense, most exciting, and even funniest scenes of the film, largely due to Pitt’s amazing eat-acting because in that scene Pitt is trying to keep up appearances but he’s also paranoid Jolie may be trying to poison him. His subtle hesitation with every bite, every chew, or sip of his drink is in a class of its own.
    God, I love that movie.

  • @thomasjengis6764
    @thomasjengis6764 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    A primary reason Pitt frequently eats on screen is because it's a subset of a common Meisner acting technique. An actor that does what is called a "secondary task" on screen or stage like sorting papers, washing the dishes, eating, etc. allows them to think less directly about 'acting.' They can be more free on screen because they're attention isn't entirely focussed on saying the lines. They can eat and talk as opposed to just talk, which allows them to make stronger and more dynamic character choices. Marlon Brandon was the original KING of eating on screen. Streetcar Named desire is a great example of this, Brando does it much more subtly than Pitt. When Brad does it, the food eating becomes a little too much of the scene. It steals my attention when the focus should never be on the secondary action, it's a tool to help an actor be more natural and in their body.
