  • A week of packed school lunches! Yumbox and Bento style! We shared what she packed and what she ate. I have a picky kindergartner and she likes small snacks so I love using the yumbox. We try to keep her lunches healthy and wholesome. Do you guys have any recommendations?

I must be a bad mom cause I just don't let my child be a picky eater. Now if I know he truly doesn't like something I won't fix it, but basically he eats what I eat, and his lunches I pack his lunch with sandwiches crackers, pretzels, fruit. If he doesn't. I find that eventually he will eat when he's hungry. But I've never been one to cater to just what he likes or if only he packing Mac n cheese and chicken nuggets, and nope. Good ideas though! I appreciate it!

You might have better luck keeping the peeled & sliced apple from browning if you're allowed to use a zippered sandwich bag in her lunch box (I know some schools are zero waste and prohibit baggies). Put the apple inside, and then use your mouth to suck out the air so it's basically vacuum sealed. This keeps more oxygen off of the apple and slows the browning process. Fancy people might use a real vacuum sealer gadget, but it works just fine without it.

Funny that Zara doesn't like grapes anymore, but ate them when offered lol. Maybe you should try introducing one new item a week (in addition to her requested items) and see if she takes to it. I know she'll come around sooner or later, but in the meantime, you guys are doing an awesome job!

Hi Jia, love the video as always. The lunches looked great. U were saying that Zara doesn't like her grapes anymore? I get that way sometimes bcuz the grapes sometimes have little aggravating seeds even though they claim to be seedless and it could be that the grapes are not as sweet or they just doesn't taste good at all for whatever reason. Sometimes u just get a batch that's not that great. That happens to me a lot. And the other thing is about the apples. I don't like that lemon taste on my apples either so I use "FRUIT FRESH". It's in powder form and u can put it on all types of fruit and it doesn't alter the taste of the actual fruit itself and it prevents browning. I don't know if it comes in other brands or not or if it comes in an organic version but the kind I have is by BALL, the mason jar people I think, and it is on the aisle with the canning supplies. It only cost a few dollars and has only a few ingredients (listed below). 5 calories per 1\4 tsp, 1g carbs, 1g sugar, no sodium, no fat, no artificial flavors nor colors, excellent source of vitamin C. The ingredients are: (listed in this exact order)
    Dextrose
    Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C)
    Citric Acid
    Silicon Dioxide (Anti-Caking)
    Contains no Sulfites
I hope this helps. Stay blessed.😄👍

Okay, this video had me laughing so hard! How about yogurt or applesauce? Would she eat tuna salad or chicken salad? Or the turkey on her Hawaiian roll? Maybe meal prep for her too? Make some chicken (or whatever meats she likes) and put that in her lunch.

  • @michelafrosolone

You could try putting the apples in water then put salt in the water then dump the water out and keep the apples in there then wash the salt off and it won’t turn brown the next day

My kids aren't really that fussy but they definitely are with lunch food. They have the same things every single day. I'm not there to try encourage them to eat it so I just give them stuff I know they'll eat. Could you try giving less food? Then add more food when she eats that? That has helped us :)

Try getting the apples that are already peeled and sliced...they have the stuff on them so they don’t get brown and you can’t taste the difference. Also have you tried cereal bars or triscuits and hummus. My son is super picky and those are some things he will eat. Great video.

Jia, I've read if you cut the apple up, the use a rubberband and put it back together it cuts down on the oxygenation process. Unfortunately tho, you can't peal the apples this way.

Mine is becoming picky too! Luckily he is only three and the nursery he goes to does all his meals there. Weirdly he will eat absolutely anything there but not at home. Maybe it’s mummy’s cooking 😢 I have found he is quite good with melon and mango cut up which at least doesn’t go brown. He will also eat pretty much any meat or cheese if it is in a sandwich thin. I’m not sure if you can get those in the us though

Maybe ask her to make her own lunch with you supervising. When you eat lunch or dinner at home make a game of it. Make face plate dinners using vegetables and meat. Or Christmas tree dinners with pasta and cut up cherry tomatoes. Or animal shapes. Mash potato or pumpkin hair or even pasta, raisins or cranberries or dried cherries etc for eyes, carrots for a nose etc etc. Or salad vegetables which she can try out for dinner. Add fruit fresh and dried to the dinners and then she may like them for lunch. Give her a mold and get her to put pasta in it like a star then she might eat it for lunch as well. Or baked pasta in shapes. I did this for a friend of mines little girl who would eat nothing for her and it worked like a charm. She ate every single thing I cooked, but in her own special way lol. Now she eats everything. Hope some of this might help you a little.
