Rode is really making some great products. Both mics sounded good, although the Go was a little hollow for me. Going wired makes a lot of sense when the quality of the recording is important to you.
The S21 Ultra sounded the best out of all devices tested. The audio was surprisingly full sounding with no detectable line noise. PC was the 2nd best with the Pixel barely edging out the iPhone. The iPhone and Pixel both have low level line noise in the audio but it’s much more noticeable on the iPhone. Great video!
I found someone selling them on amazon, I hope its not a knockoff lol because b&H is not even getting them for 3 months my intent is to use it to combine two mics into one line out and into a given camera so it has 2 mic sources
Great info. It cleared my doubts on how to use with mobile phone recording. I have doubt? does the audio quality change if i use this AI micro interface instead of a 3.5mm to usb-c adapter for my android phone and filmic pro? Does the audio quality also change when i used this AI Micro with the PC 3.5mm input than directly inputting my rode video micro into PC and recording via OBS? I'm thinking to use this if it improves the recording quality than directly putting the videomicro mic in PC or phone.
Did you try it with a stereo mic in socket 1? In the Rode Reporter app, configured for stereo, my Roland CS-10EM binaural mics (which work fine with my Zoom H1n recorder) showed the same input into L & R channels, though there was stereo in playback. In the native camera app on Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, selecting USB mic in Pro Video mode, L & R channels are reversed; similarly with Filmic Pro. In all tests the (intended) R channel is about 12dB - 15dB quieter than the L.
Update: I tried this using the Zoom H1n's own stereo mics via its lineout, and that works fine, recording into Samsung's camera app and Filmic Pro (though that still switches L&R), so it looks like the problem is with the Roland binaural mics - though strange that they work fine into the Zoom recorder.
Thanks for this review! Interesting little device. It would have been nice, if you had not had music playing underneath your voice during the audio tests. That way it would have been easier to judge the audio quality and any underlying noise issues.
Great video! I just adore your videos. So informative. I would like to know if possible to listen video through headphones out during the playback of recorded video. Because originally when mic connected to lightning, iphone does not let you listen, you have to disconnect mic from lightning port.
Sure, using a TRS or TRRS 1/8" male connector to your headphones, earbuds, Rode or DJI wireless, etc, you can hear the audio while the video is displayed on your screen with the Rode Capture or Rode Central Mobile.
Wow. This was a really informative and well done overview. Perhaps the best one out there. I do a lot of lessons over Zoom (with OBS). I find a regular mic gets in the way. Do you think this would a good solution? I like the monitoring feature. I'm on windows 11. BTW new subscriber!
"Dumb" question: I love that 1 can be set to record to 1 and 2 to 2 in the Rode app. Will Filmic Pro and the S21 Ultra cam apps handle it the same way? (Am trying to avoid having to sync an audio file with video in post. Thanks for your work TK
hi, can this be powered by a powerbank and used to monitor live audio from the mics.(wireless go 2). i have a camera without headfone jack and use zoom h1n for live audio monitoring. Thinking whether this can replace the h1n in that use case scenario. thanks
Great video. I wonder if this can be used w/ OBS, so that I could monitor lav mic one me and at the same time hear all the computer sounds via headphones. It should probably work.
Nice video TK. Please correct me if I am wrong: recording video with an external mic (whether that's bluetooth or wired) WITH the default camera app is pretty limited to a few devices. Like the pro mode on the Samsung and the Pixel 6's. Not sure if that's an Android 11 limitation and I hope this will change with Android 12.

when I was a student this piece of kit would have been so useful for when I had to shoot interviews
hi does this interface accept line inout signal from an external mixer? or is it for mics only ?

great addition, nice review, you got it done pretty quick.

The 2nd mic is so crisp. I like that one better.

Is app a necessity with Android or works without app too??
Very useful feedback, thanks!
So if your utilizing two cameras for live streaming (different angles) on a PC this solution would work well due to split audio?
Will it work with Belkin Rockstar Lightning audio+charger?
