Made me smile momentarily, but otherwise absolutely horrendous. It's like one of those animated e-cards - devoid of all musical soul, but manages to play the correct notes in the correct order, just about.
@OmnomnomSMW True, By the way the Futurama title tune was inspired and built on a sixties tune by Pierre Henry/Michel Colombier. I never knew that until lately and as a french I found it cool.
@ingo434 Actually if I remember right there was a Brazilian Sega Master Sytem game that used a chiptunes ( 8- bit) rendition of smells liek teen spirit. I think it was called "Seposchul" ( sorry for any spelling error, as I don't speak Portuguese a bit...) if I remember right the site " Hardcore gaming 101" talked about it a bit in their Sega Master System podcast. ( allong with with a TON of other great games.)
I never played an NES, but I agree with you. Some rock fans are protective over their hit songs. The more open-minded of us are the ones who appreciate this. I'm a big fan of 8-bit remixes now, and I'd rather hear this version over any dance remixes of it, that's for sure! This at least has a genuis quality to it. But with some people, "If it ain't got a guitar, it ain't worth listening to." Some opinions can't be changed.
actually that's a fair enough explanation of sampling, but 8-bit machines don't have the memory for that, so they have sound chips that make square or sine waves (3 or 4 at once) and the music player just sets the frequency and volume of these waves, which creates that distinctive 'chiptune' sound.
@aslow02gt I'm also from the MIDI era! I remember the piano "simulator" on the Amiga and Commodore 64. God that robocop game was the best platformer ever.
wow when i heard this i could actually imagine this being played on an old snes game haha imagine if they had guitar hero snes =P playing the song like this would be soo cool :D
it seems like the most epic point to say a game or movie, you know world 7 minutes before it blows up and you have to beat the final boss etc. then 1:07 is some cutscene of the boss hitting you away, then you get mad and power up and then start the real fight...think FF7: dirge of cerberus: Weiss kind of fight would work well.
theres so much charm in these 8- bit covers
fearofthedark88 its chiptune
Smells Like Retro Spirit
Why Nirvana? ... And Van Halen??...;DDD

It sounds like it would it would fit in perfectly to the Metal Gear Series
A Mega-drive, an Amiga, my IBM, an Atari!
90's kid and GameBoy users will approve this!
I've listened a lot of your 8-bit songs and they are hilarious and really well done great job.
Smells Like NES Spirit
so wait, nirvana got their idea for the song from this video game music.
Nop', it's a remake of Smells Like Teen Spirit in 8-bit :)
-_-
sir let me just point out that THAT is the most stupidest comment anyone would ever say. Does anyone agree with me?
I really hope this guy isn't serious.
He is, and THAT is why i pointed out and i quote "That is the most stupidest comments anyone would ever say"
incredible!!! one of the best 8bit i listened to XD, LOVE THE 8BIT
yess!!!
i love saving these cool retro beats and recording songs with them
Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800 were all 8 bit - their CPUs were all variants of the MOS 6502 (8 bit! - same micro as the NES).
when Kurt learned to use the amstrad.
dude this is awsome i really want to get an 8-bit kinda sound pedal now for my guitar!!!!
i had this idea driving my car and hearing the original on the radio. how convenient! work done! favorited and 5-starred.
*she's over bored and self assured
Nice. I been listening to chiptune stuff all morning. Someone should translate music videos into 8-bit graphics to go with this stuff!
Awesome! It really took me back to when I was like 5. man, it sounded like it needed to be in Ghost and Goblins.
Sounds like a mario song when you're in a cave :'D
Awesomesauce!
Agree! Hope there are many more versions to keep the spirit alive
This version kicks ass!! I love it!
Whenever I listen to this I get a Power Up. Glorious.
Hehe good one! Sounds pretty good in 8-bit
@GentleFistNeji1 You're correct. It also changes the bitrate of the audio for the video!
I love how this video, of all the 8-bit remixes here on youtube, got over 1 millon views.
1:19 a wild nirvana appears!
this song always sounds amazing no matter what version. 8-bit, dub step. amazing.
i love both versions xD YOU ROCK NIRVANA
Made me smile momentarily, but otherwise absolutely horrendous. It's like one of those animated e-cards - devoid of all musical soul, but manages to play the correct notes in the correct order, just about.
So much win in that idea!!! I want it now lol. I feel like demanding nintedo to make such xD
you don't have the capacity to appreciate this,
If DOOM also used Nirvana, this is how it probably would have ended. Thanks for this version,it's awesome.
3 words. Awesomest. Video. EVER!

Nice 8-bit version of smells like teen spirit 👍🏻.
This...is just so great.
Love how this 8-bit song has lots of layers, unlike others I have heard.
its fun to use this as a backing track when doing a live cover of the song. (:
@OmnomnomSMW True, By the way the Futurama title tune was inspired and built on a sixties tune by Pierre Henry/Michel Colombier. I never knew that until lately and as a french I found it cool.
Thank you, Kurt! But your guitar is in another castle!
@ingo434 Actually if I remember right there was a Brazilian Sega Master Sytem game that used a chiptunes ( 8- bit) rendition of smells liek teen spirit.

The late 80s/early 90s just came back in force.

I never played an NES, but I agree with you.

(For those who get that...)
I wonder how would it be to play super mario world with this music playing on final stage or something alike. Like a true boss.
@aslow02gt I'm also from the MIDI era! I remember the piano "simulator" on the Amiga and Commodore 64. God that robocop game was the best platformer ever.

Nirvana you play as kurt, you pick up guitars, notes and needles and your last boss is a shotgun.
it seems like the most epic point to say a game or movie, you know world 7 minutes before it blows up and you have to beat the final boss etc.
then 1:07 is some cutscene of the boss hitting you away, then you get mad and power up and then start the real fight...think FF7: dirge of cerberus: Weiss kind of fight would work well.
best 8 bit song
supernice(:
player 1: Game Over
player 2: changed the cartridge
player 3: still trying to pass the hardest level...
I can totally imagine all the characters from Timesplitters Future Perfect dancing to this in a disco.
When Kurt was alive, this is what music in video games sounded like.
Amazing
one word....EPIC
Man this would sound like something out of a boss fight in an RPG
Good one! :D
5 Stars, man ^^
COOOOOOL :-)))
This is proper NES endboss music.
