+Leticia Jaure He may have been gay in his past life for all we know but he clearly wasn't black. His burned hand was clearly a white hand, just burned. And the "soldier" that captured Evey had that same look. Not to mention in the last of Evey's days of interrogation, the silhouette of the guard at the door looked like Hugo Weaving. And lastly, we do sometimes see the underside of Hugo's chin in some scenes. So the character was probably white, if only because the actor was and you happen to sometimes catch a glimpse of it. Now I wouldn't put it past V to constantly wear tons of make-up... but it feels like that may be a bit inconvenient.
Some characters don't need a 'face' to be interesting characters. You find it more in horror movies like Jason and Michael Myers in Friday the 13th and Halloween respectively. Those characters are, themselves, more so ideas than people, as it were. Hugo Weaving didn't need to show his face because he is a great enough actor to convey the idea through body language and action. He could've been silent through the film and it still would've worked imo.
I always love that they used Rookwood for the name of this informant. Ambrose Rookwood was one of the original Gunpowder Plot planners in 1605. Nice touch.

However night will soon fall, and when it does, V's truest self will deal much death. Finch just oozes integrity. Sure he's a party member but ultimately a man who wants to do the right thing regardless of what it means for him or his party. And V basically tells him as much - for you inspector, i needed you. Great scene.
It also exposes his single-mindedness. He thinks morally, so he thinks everyone else does. Most of what he was told he could have discovered on his own.
"For you, inspector. I needed you." I feel like this is one of the most important lines in the movie. Anyone, even with a meagre amount of power, can be a changes the course of 1000's of people's lives.
The inspector doesn't have a "meagre amount of power" he's literally the head of the entire police force. Your point is still valid, just not in this context.
At the same time it was also people like him who caused this issue. People merely voting for an authoritarian politican is only the first step. Having organisations that follow the command of the politicans is the second step (in opposition to having not political but societal forces that provide tools to tackle such issues).

No matter how many times i watch this movie it still gives me chills. The cruelty, the tortures, the larkhill footage, the secret behing v and his idenity, the script, the lines, the acting, the dark side of politics everything is truly impeccable about the film The whole darkness and violence and how its shot is one outstanding thing about this movie. The shot where V is standing in the fire right after the larkhill explosion on 5th of july with the doctor's narrative on backround saying ,,and he looked at me but not with his eyes, there were no eyes'' as V was standing in fire and screaming. That shot has to be one of the most frightening, hauting, chilling and well-made shots in the film industry. Either way the whole V character was incredibly well-portrayed and well-played. Hugo Weaving gave an oustanding performance. The character was so iconic...the mask, the intelligence, the vengence, the vocabulary even. What a masterpiece of a movie.
I once analyzed basically every scene in the original graphic novel and I can confidently say that the movie is way better at storytelling. My only qualm with it is that the Truther narrative it taps into was grossly irresponsible, even though it made for a great twist.
3:02 _"But the end result, the true genius of the plan was the FEAR. Fear became the ultimate tool of this government"_ Sounds like a real-life government I know.
+Stephen Byrne The point of this scene is to show how easily entire populations can be manipulated by a small number of people. Villains don't always twirl their mustaches or operate out of volcano island lairs. Fear is a great way for a small number of people to motivate a large number of people to act against their own best interests. We can look back through history at things like the Nazis or Pol Pot and say, "nobody would be stupid enough to fall for THAT again" but the depressing fact is that you can easily convince people to give up their freedoms and their rights for the illusion of safety. It continues to happen today.
"I needed you inspector" I feel like that was an honest answer. He wanted someone who "V" felt would be impartial and follow the bread crumbs if they were laid out. Even though v had years of work to clear the tracks, accumulate the materials for the train bomb and train himself (let alone put his "shadow gallery" together) he needed a head inspector who if the facts were presented he'd follow to the logical conclusion..... Which, well v was right. He put it all together and let happen, what needed to happen
There's a bit more to it than leading someone by the nose so they'd connect the dots left for them, his role was to be a curator for the information until such time it was safe to reveal to the world, so that ppl would know why their friends and family died, disappeared, lived in constant fear and oppression. It's a bit like how someone would imagine if the Nazis were overthrown from within by the ppl they oppressed.
Yes but what happens when the government fears the people and loss of control? More oppression not less they consider people domestic terrorists and they are killed or at least arrested even peaceful protests scare the government. You want a power a struggle with cops and courts?

Just here to say, I recall watching this film in theaters as a lad and it still grips me. For all the spectacle and effects and budgets Marvel and DC are throwing on screen these days, there's something about these pre-MCU comic book films (Blade, The X-Men, V for Vendetta, 300, etc) that just feels so much more authentic to their roots. Everything is so formulated and sanitized now, they're soulless.
Because the MCU learned all the wrong lessons from these movies. Take this movie, for example. What did we learn from it? That you don't need a face to have a good character; that verbiage most verbose can make some damn compelling lines; that a sacrifice to eliminate the threat is compelling. What did Marvel learn from it? That masked characters are cool; that quippy one-liners are cool; that a sacrifice to eliminate the threat earns you redemption for your sins. I'll draw the parallel between V and Iron Man, as its the easiest. V and Iron Man are both masked badasses with great lines. The difference is this: V is consistently a well-intentioned extremist that you can't help but root for even as he commits massive acts of terrorism. He never is redeemed for the terrorism he commits, though; in fact, it ultimately winds up killing him. It's a noble sacrifice to kill a fascist pig, sure, but ultimately it's something he was going to do no matter who Creedy was personally, be he a snake or an angel. Iron Man started as a businessman selling weapons. This fucked him over and you only root for Iron Man because now he's working for the Good Guys against the Bad Guys. He's a lovable character, sure, with nice quips and whatnot, but instead of staying true to what superheroes actually are--instead of being the Ultimate Firefighter--Iron Man becomes the ultimate cop, and his redemption is to save half the world by sacrificing himself as atonement for his past sins that he's already been redeemed for a thousand times over, but Marvel can only redeem someone in death for some fucking reason.

***** The problem in the movie is that represent V as the man tha frees everyone. However the comic book in the end leave the choice of freedom to the people! In the comic book V was an anarchist and tried to give people an opportunity to change the world by providing the truth and destroy the old system. You have to understand that if people dont move noone will ever save humanity. People need to beleive in their own power and take control of their lives. They have to offer in the society and give time to the commons. We do not trully need a V or a superman or some magic. We need to be fully responsible for our own lives and change it!
This is such an underrated movie. This is more than just a film, it's an idea. Ideas are the means to meaning, and for those voracious enough, enunciation of truth.
You're right, it's an idea, but incredibly naive simplistic idea of good vs evil, freedom vs tyranny... and how it all could be cancelled if only people rose up. Just a friendly reminder, real word doesn't work like that. In that sense it's no better than ideocracy or Harry Potter.
@@somedud1140It's not good VS. evil, at least not in the movie. V himself fully admits that he is a monster, a phantom who lives for vengeance, it's just that the best way to take vengeance against a goverment is to instigate a revolution. Hell, he indirectly led for that girl with the glasses to her death, and if he didn't take care of Creedy at the right time, the soldiers would've massacred the masked crowd (probably), and let's not forget he tortured Evey. The movie never framed what V did as purely good, but rather a necessary evil the people needed to create something better, hence when he accomplished his goal he dies, the last evil of the regime dead. At the same time it was also people like him who caused this issue. People merely voting for an authoritarian politican is only the first step. Having organisations that follow the command of the politicans is the second step (in opposition to having not political but societal forces that provide tools to tackle such issues).

The whole darkness and violence and how its shot is one outstanding thing about this movie.

Because Marvel IS from Disney and they want they POLITICS
And they copy 1 thing from the comic ignoring the rest pick any example like Gorr the Butcher
Blade Xmen Avengers EMH Spectacular Spiderman and Spiderman 80 all products of Stan Lee WRITING not some IA or mental insane writer from Disney Who hates all
This movie is pure genius. Gave me chill on my spine for being so accurate after all these years.

You have to understand that if people dont move noone will ever save humanity. People need to beleive in their own power and take control of their lives. They have to offer in the society and give time to the commons. We do not trully need a V or a superman or some magic. We need to be fully responsible for our own lives and change it!

Ideas are the means to meaning, and for those voracious enough, enunciation of truth.

Not underrated anymore. It’s getting it’s notoriety now.
A report by The Rebecca Project for Human Rights states that Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Pfizer, Planned Parenthood, USAID and the UN contributed to a 4 billion contraceptive campaign using the vaccine Depo-Provera (DMPA).
The Guttmacher Institute states that a 2yr study of over 5,000 woman receiving injections at Planned Parenthood of Rocky Mountains reported “of the initial 5,178 women who received an initial injection, only 57% returned for a second administration. Another third dropped out after the 2nd shot. Reasons for not returning? “Difficultly tolerating side effects”. FDA labelling and/or reported in studies:
“Loss of bone mineral density, may lose significant bone density”
“Cardiovascular events - syncope, tachycardia, thrombophlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolus - which can lead to cardiac arrest and stroke. Do not re administer if sudden, partial or complete loss of vision”
Breast and cervical cancer - Hormone sensitive breast cancers occur twice as often in woman under 35 who have used DMPA in the previous four years.
Ectopic pregnancy - increased risk of life threatening ectopic pregnancy.
The Gates Foundation have given millions to PATH, who conducted large scale clinical trials in Africa and South Asia. According to Vera Sharav who is part of Alliance for Research Protection, in 2010 PATH administered the HPV vaccine was given to 23,000 girls between 10-14yrs old to guard against cervical cancers as part of a “demonstrational study”.
7 adolescent tribal girls died after receiving the vaccine. 1,200 girls experienced extreme side effects of developed auto-immense disorders, according to Indian Physicians who state no follow up examinations or medical care were offered to the victims.
Further investigations revealed persuasive violations of ethical norms: vulnerable village girls were virtually press-ganged into the trials, their parents bullied into signing consent forms they couldn’t read by PATH representatives, who made false claims about safety and efficacy of the drugs. Many signatures were formed.
An Indian Parliamentary Committee determined the Gates-funded vaccine campaign was in fact a large scale clinical trial conducted on behalf of the pharmaceutical firms and disguised as an “observational study” in order to outflank statutory requirements. The committee found that PATH had “violated all les and regulations laid down for trials by the government in a clear-cut violation of human rights and a case of child abuse”.

People at some point seem to have forgotten that politicians have a tendency of being corrupt. Someone who wasn't a politician stepped up and called them out on their bullshit and the whole establishment went for his throat. I side with Trump because I got results under him.
I'm sick of the establishment. I'm sick of the inflations they cause on everything and their endless wars. Biden said he wants to go green by 2030, and how he wants to limit how much meat we eat by 2030. And of course liberals are too stupid to notice how convenient it is that a pipeline and the world's largest meat provider both got hacked by hired hacker groups within a month of each other.
I'd like to think my tin foils a bit too tight but got damn this is eerily similar to today
"Remember Remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot"
That's tomorrow!
Deadly thanks. I great way to reflect on these past couple years
the *'9/11' ALLEGORY*
How else would Bush attack Iraq? Wmd's my arse
9/11 Allegory...so true..!!! It's creepy.!
First came the Patriot Act, now comes time for the Patriots to Act
@@coldblowcode Erm, the tombs of the Nephilim.......?
the Ryazan sugar allegory
Something that I don't think is mentioned enough about this scene is the score. The almost understated melody, the tension, the vague accompanying noise to the terror which may or may not be true.
To put it into musical terms, the 'resolutions' of the harmony are fairly obvious given some thought.
And to me, that intentionally matches the scene. "Give this some thought"
God I love this film
1984 + V + What just happened = One hell of a coincidence
The only difference is the one is far-left totalitarian while the other one is Far-Right
This is why old people collect aged wine. Just keep's getting better and more relevant as time continues on.
Corona virus brought me here.
Watch it in its entirety , if you haven't.

Croklcus City Hall and stories about Ryazan sugar brought me here as a Russian
need to watch this again
In retrospect, watching this now I can say with conviction that I am literally terrified
They tried to warn us
THEY always do....They have to!
The scary part is this movie took place in 2020....
It’s like Alan Moore was able to see what was going to come in the future
Of course he does. He's an anarchist. Nobody understands authoritarianism more than people who despise it with every inch of their body.
It's always been like this like it is now, two years after your comment. There always is someone tightening the screws and looking for to profit from it. World is always led by bunch of assholes, which we are supposed to look up to. There always is something after us and they always come out with an aid or cure or stupid catch phrase. There always is some sort of reason to monitor us closer and eventually situations like in V will become neolithic memory due to society being run by an mechanism, actual autonomous algorithm.
Back in 1980s when Moore authored the comic, cold war was on and started to get new directions from technology based surveillance. AIDS came out from nowehere and started to spread horror. Nothing seems to have changed and things are like they were before that too.
The only thing changing is the way how people react to the current status quo, which is exactly what Moore made V to try to do.
"Before the crisis, no one would have predicted the results of the election that year. No one. Then not long after the election lo and behold, a miracle."
Kinda like some retarded potato that got 81 million votes.
It is amazing, you never think you will see people fall for these megalomaniacs that have no respect for due process, unril you find yourself surrounded by supportees
" No such thing as coincidences, only the illusion of coincidences"...V
I love that he looks kind of like Alan Moore. The man that wrote V for Vendetta.
its terryfing to see this fiction turning into reality
Worse than V+1984--- please REMEMBER ... ...... ... In 1986, Communist share Ukraine Chernobyl radiation to everyone. In 2019, sharing covid19 to everyone. Watch and share this 1 minute REAL video and you know what is REAL evil: th-cam.com/video/kKVbwuoS16Y/w-d-xo.html
What reality is this?
Except it didn't at all. A pandemic hit, restrictions happened, vaccines & treatments arrived, restrictions were lifted. And if anything politicians who were guided by the scientific advice instead of populism fared a lot better than those who didn't.
@@drxym Thanks for being sensible, this whole comments section is hilariously dumb.
@@drxym Really nice to see a comment like this from time to time to remind one that not everyone in the world has gone down the conspiracy rabbit hole for their own self-aggrandizement.
It's a story always relevant in times of fear we give up our freedom
Watching this in January 21. Jesus Christ.
I don't know why, but I really like the way he says "Oh, I'm sure you would"
You were not the only one.
I know why you’re here.
.....I miss when this was fiction.........
Same. 😔
literally nothing happened
Jesus, Britain is actually becoming like this.
America as well
Britain, USA, Norway, EU, Africa, Asia, Latin America....... Everywhere...
MrJohnycomelately21 no it's not
Of course it's not....
+Omni Modus probebly time to get our survival kits together and head to australia.
So many perfectly executed long montages in this movie
Is Hugo Weaving doing an Alan Moore impression? The idea tickles me.
Probably why Moore hates this movie so much.
This is deep, political, and yet very truly outstanding! Love the conspiracy!
Along comes a Spider!!
Everyday this film gets closer to reality
thats V?
+Diana Pavaleanu Yup.
+SirCraigius um...no
+Jason Adkins Yea it is mate
yes
It's Alan Moore lol
What a performance by Hugo
it's crazy how much closer we are to this fictional reality here in 2022, when the movie came out in 2005
No we're not you fucking muppet. Literally the best time to be alive, just stop being an internet rat that's stuck on a diet of shit infested fear.
Wow.
Im writing this 12/18/2020

This aged well
Awesoma movie!! With a lot of unique scenes!!
Love this scene too! Hugo Weaving! His great voice always worked!!
+windi1982 He's really good with accents too. That's the best "Soft Northern" accent I have seen a non-British actor do in a film.
In 2021 this scene really hurts.
God I love this movie. Top 5 all time for me.
As written the V character is blind. I never noticed it before. This scene kind of indicted that part of the story. I always thought they skipped over that. You have to pay attention to every scene in this movie. It is a master class in film making. Yes, it does not follow the source material perfectly, I get that, but it such a great film.
Justice is blind
Big Brother is watching.
1984
Freedom is slavery.
War is peace.
Ignorance is strength.
WHY AM I SEEING YOU HERE WTF. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL M8
I don't think the entire democratic party agrees with the surveillance of all human beings connected to the Internet. In fact, a large law-suit is occurring right now about this very thing. Look Snowden(Not the bad movie).
2+2=5
You know Weaving is a great actor when you don't once think of Agent Smith, his most famous and iconic role, during this.
No, especially not when he says “you”.
TIL that Agent Smith was V....
Its elrond for me
The sheer genius of this moment cannot ever be overstated.
Between VfV and the Matrix, the Wachowskis are brilliant.
There are no coincidences...
