I think that the whole Anioma should make Akwa Ocha,or in other word, also known as Otogwu .as their mandatory cultural dress, in any occation. .because,the Akwa ocha is not found among, any other ethnic tribe in Nigeria, other than in Anioma .there by making it, a unique cultural dressing, for the whole Aniomas.May God bless the Aniomas both home and abroad.LONG LIVE NIGERIA, LONG LIVE THE ANIOMAS AMEN.

Benin fool trying so hard to stir discord in all the Igbo channels out of jealousy, invest your crook mentality in stopping your female generations heading to Libya for a sex picnic (mpama). Even the misinformed woman giving the speech, did you see the body language of the audience, when she said "we don't want to be Ndi Igbo'', no one clapped and all seem not interested with that line cos they know she has issue with her history and identity. Being Igbo goes beyond states, dialect or any identifying names you wish for yourself. Igbo's know themselves and we are more united more than ever now. If Aniomas are not Igbos but came from Yoruba and Benin they should accept Yoruba and Benin languages and names and leave our Igbo language dialects and names for those of us that know we are Igbos. People need to wake. You are from Yoruba but Yorubas call you omo kobokobo, they call you omo igboooo. You are from Benin but Benin people call you owie igbo. Learn your history people and know who you are. Wake up because the last time I checked even the Hausas call you Inyamili ie igbo and during the Nigeria and Biafra war they slaughtered our people because you are Igbo. Hausa Fulani till date are still killing our people because we are Igbos and infidels to them.
Who were you Aniomas before the formation of Anioma as a people? Wake up from your slumber because this is not funny that you are beating about the bush as to who you are as a people.

Uju Okwumabua you are so full of hatred for the other tribes that you will do anything to hold on to the Anioma people. I see the point you do not see concerning the Anioma people. Learn as I always say, to different the quest for Anioma State and the ancestral origins of the people that make up Anioma. I disagree with you on the issue of Anioma. You need to research history very well before you speak out such misinformation about Anioma. We are Igbos believe it or not. Peace!!!
You don't want to be called Onye Igbo yet you want to be called by an Igbo word Anioma. This is what happens when people don't know history. The Delta is a land formed by sands deposited by the sea before it empties into an ocean. Bini was a big and powerful empire so it attracted migrants from nearby places, these migrants came mostly from Igboland places like Isu, Nri etc in Anambra. To halt and control the influx of this migrant to Bini’s border, the King of Bini sent his princes to go rule the migrants, over time many Bini customs were adopted by the migrants. Igbos were the majority and as the influence of Bini decreased, the Igbos took over. This is why most 90% of Anioma culture is based on Nri culture, title taking, kola nut breaking, masquerade, language, names even Akwa Ocha originated from the Nri priest who wore white to represent holiness and red cap to represent the fire of Agbala etc. Some Anioma people understand, others continue to talk rubbish while answering names like Chukwuka and living in communities with unmistakable Igbo name and identity. Anioma Kwenu, Igbo Kwenu!

First, not all groups in Anioma came from the East of the Niger. If you
say Ibusa, Part of Ogwashi-Uku and maybe one or two places-you are correct but,
to attribute ancestry to other groups in the same area is wrong.
That you speak English does not make you an English man. The titles are
more like Benin culture hence till date, once they get on the throne, they go
to Benin and not Nri. I believe Ogwashi-Uku do go to Nri even though they met
people of Benin origin in the land. Ibusa also must go to Nri.
In terms of kola-nut, there is
big similarity.
For the Akwa-Ocha, you are wrong in your assumption because even till
date, Nri do not weave the okwa-ocha which originated from Ubulu brought in by
migrants and the okwa-ocha is only similar in making and texture with what they
have in Benue. The Okwa-ocha has no bearing with your Agbala. May I know the
original name of okwa-ocha and the stages it went through to be called okwa-ocha
if you are stating claim of the origin of okwa-ocha.
In My home town Ubulu, we do not
say, Igbo kwenu! Ubulu kweni, is what we say. You cannot use language alone to
tie identity to any group. You need much more than that please. We must look at
this with great mindset so, we can retrieve what is rightfully ours. I do not
hate any tribe but no one can tie an ancestry to me when I know my ancestry.
There is a relationship between Anioma and her neighbours for different
reasons and this is acceptable. People use example that Raphe Uwachie was eze
ndi Igbo-yes, he can be that because his ancestry is Nri undisputed though his
mother is from Ubulu-Uku.
And in terms of masquerade, we borrowed that from the east as people
left from my place to learn it because it was very entertaining. The first masquerade
came into Ubulu around 1946, we still have the masquerade and we know the man
who brought it in. The relevance you
accord masquerade is not done in Anioma.
We celebrate the Iwu and Ine festival, there is no trace of that in Nri.
If Nri is my take off point, I will proudly tie my ancestry to it but, it is
not and you cannot force that on me. I love the Igbo people; I love my ancestry
which is not from Nri or across the Niger.
An Ibusa person is of Igbo ancestry hence they were referred to as Igbo
bi na uzo and there is no shame in being of Igbo ancestry. As you are proud of
your ancestry so are others. As you are proud of your ancestry so are others. You cannot deny them that. Please check your facts. I await your reply. Anioma is a diverse entity. You must first accept
that and what makes them Anioma is not the ancestry they represent but the
the collective mindset to be ONE not minding the diverse units. We are very proud
to have all ancestry represented in Anioma. We could call Anioma, collection of

ALL SOuth east igbos migrated from else where.I will give an example-Obinkita in Arochukwu Abia state was originally known as 'Obong Okon Ita' an Ibibio enclave.Up till today their Ekpo masquearade speaks and sings in Ibibio.Aros call God 'Obasi' from Efik 'Abasi',and people still have surnames like BAssey,Ofong,Okon etc which point to an Efik ancestry but they are Igbo today.The Aros dress like the Efik and pay homage alongside ABiriba to the Obong of Calabar during the yearly EKpe festival.You can google for more history.This is just an example of one town in the East that absorbed non igbo immigrants amongst others.ANiomas case is not unique.The point is all these towns despite their so called origins and migrations evolved into proto igbo cultures,from language to Omenani-4 market days,Omugwo,Iwa ji(which other tribe celebrates yam like igbos?) ,kolanut rituals,organizing clans into Umuada,Umunna,gerontocracy(Okpala/Diokpa system) and so many others,these are the common factors across all igbo speaking units East and West of the Niger and it is what makes the modern Igbo identity,not stories/fables of origin.
I made this video and whatever anyone says in the video is the right of that person to say what he/she understands about ancestry. The last time I checked they were adults and if you want to point out an issue do it respectfully on my wall.
Remember also that just as you hold on to what you believe so do others. If people collectively say they want to be called Anioma, that is up to them and you can do nothing about it.
That on its own is a topic. The ancestry issue is another which some people fail to understand. You have yours and he/she has their own. You claim yours, while would they not claim their own. If my ancestry is not from Nri, would you force it down my throat?
Those whose ancestors are from Nri should proudly hold on to it and those whose ancestors are not should proudly hold on to their ancestral origin.
Do not confuse the Anioma concept with ancestral origin pls. They are two different things. Doesn't matter where your ancestry lies - the important thing is that the people want to be called Anioma irrespective of ancestry.
You can call me Igbo woman, Hausa woman, Yoruba woman or any other, I don’t care and do not feel bad about it as long as you realise that it is our right to want to be addressed as Anioma people.

@@esther_wright Madam your logic is faulty.Even Igbos in the south east have 'ancestry' from other tribes,ABiriba people migrated from Efik and they speak efik as a 2nd language.Half of ANambra and Enugu have ties with Igalas,Nzam speaks Igala,Ossomalas traditional ruler bears 'Attamanya' from ATtah of Igala etc There are two types of Igbos -by origin and by assimilation.The so called migration from Benin is mostly just Benin influence on ANiomas Monarchy and some ceremonial practises,the day to day life and culture of ANioma is IGBO-OMENANI from 4 market days,to IWa ji,to celebration of kolanut,to burial custom etc all IGBO.The so called Benin migrants met a larger group of aboriginal IGBOS in ANioma land and intermarried and assimilated with the IGbos, that is why IGBO language and culture has remained in ANioma.You people have never been regarded and will never be regarded as anything but Igbo.STop living in Denial.
