Hey, guys! Thank you for doing another video reaction of BTS. This is the first music video they released in 2013.
Big Hit Entertainment is the company of BTS. It's a small company that's in a brink of bankruptcy. When BTS started to gain recognition in 2016-2017 in Korea and the world, they helped the company be financially stable. Now, HYBE is like a conglomerate if i am not mistaken. It's the new name of Big Hit. Since Big Hit has now the capacity, around 2020 it acquired small entertainment labels in Korea who are also handling amazing artists/groups. Cause Big Hit or HYBE wants to help the small companies since they know what it feels like to be one. In fact, one of BTS' old songs mentioned something like "don't worry artists from small companies, we'll all make it through" 13:31 13:31

As you go on with their music videos, you'll see the storyline of the albums. From being school kids, infatuation, struggles of youth, growing up, loving yourself, map of the soul to present.
I'm so excited for you to reach the Wings and Youth era. Such wonderful pieces! 💜💜💜
      Borahae and thank you! 💜

Jess you got Suga and J-Hope correct. Don’t beat yourself up about trying to remember who is who. It takes a bit of time at first due to changing hairstyles, hair colours etc. ARMY will help guide you on your journey. Their music has always had a message of positivity and self love. I’m 66 year old ARMY of 2 years and still consider myself baby ARMY. It’s the most beautiful rabbit hole you’ll ever delve into and it’s wonderful that you can enjoy it with your kids. Welcome to the fandom. Borahae 🫰🏻💜🇨🇦

This was such a brave debut for a group that had everything to lose if people rejected them with this debut. Everything was riding on this. Not only their careers but the job security of everyone at their small company. Most groups in their position would have played it safe with a cute, catchy dance song with little meaning behind it so that it can catch positive attention. Pissing off parents by telling their kids to dream instead of follow the path that's decided for them was a risk. I'm glad we can look back at it now and it still feel it's power. Glad you enjoyed the message 💜💜

Thank you so much for your reaction appreciate you both😊. For me No More Dream is a great song to introduce themselves to the world, the message, production, visuals, and attitude was on point. I've been an Army since 2014 up until now they always and never fails to amazed me Everytime they drop a song, video etc. The evolution of their music was shocking but to us Army's it was expected. This guys were talented in many ways not just in music but in many different aspects. Hope you'll grow to LOVED not just their music but them as an individual as well, thank you and as what Jimin said " YOU NICE KEEP GOING" BORAHAE! 💜 💜 💜

Yes, they were so cool to have this as their first ever song to debut with! It’s definitely made me look at myself a few times too… the tough love kind of feel “ask yourself if you’ve ever worked hard for anything?” Really makes you reflect on how you spend your time and energy, what is important to you? How do you want your life to look? “Become the main character in your life” is also a great lyric.

Actually it was (is) big hit entertainment, if we go back when they were just a small struggling company it was their channels name but in 2021, after bts got big hit to the top, their company decided to merge in with several different companies of the industry and come together as "HYBE LEBELS", they are still their own company but at the same time under something bigger. If you see anything before march 2021 this is their intro (an iconic one that we all love it) but after the merge of companies the intro changed and now comes as "hybe labels"
Just wanted to clarify the 2 intros you will see in the future, i don't really understand the business prescriptive of all the companies merging together and all, so apologies if i didn't explain that part 100% correctly, and excuse any grammar mistakes, english is my 2nd language

Big Hit Entertainment grew exponentially over the years (because of BTS), and now they are HYBE and Big Hit Music. HYBE is the parent company that oversees many labels, and Big Hit Music is BTS's label. BTS's TH-cam Channel is Bangtantv, and HYBE is the TH-cam channel for all the Groups/labels under HYBE. So you will see BTS music videos there, but most of their content is on BTS's channel. And Bang PD, their CEO of Big Hit Entertainment since their trainee days, was CEO when it transitioned to HYBE, then stepped down so he could spend more time producing music for Big Hit Music, but he is still Chairman of the Board for HYBE. I thought you would want to know that.

You are still getting to know them. It's ok.
Maybe the easiest way to remember each of them is to watch their solo songs.
    I'd recommend:
RM: Do You, Persona, Wildflower/Still LIfe
Jin: Epiphany, The Astronaut, Super Tuna
Suga: AgustD, Seesaw (live performance), Haegeum, Amygdala (comes with a trigger warning tho)
Jhope: Chicken Noodle Soup, Ego, More/Arson
Jimin: Filter, Set Me Free pt 2, Like Crazy (English version)
    V/TaeHyung: Singularity, Stigma
Jungkook/Jk: My Time, Euphoria (live performance), Seven (new!)

She got Jhope and Suga right, good job! The docuseries Rise of Bangtan is highly recommended if you're going to start from the beginning. Just watch the 1st chapter and you'll know why we highly recommend you watch it alongside the music. The chapters go in chronological order too. And includes a lot of their vlogs, behind the scenes, general insight into the kpop industry, etc. Very informative as well as entertaining. Will make you cry as well as laugh. The first chapter covers their pre-debut time up to the release of No More Dream. It's an extremely well-made series by a long-time fan who is also a professional editor. It's Netflix worthy. Please at least try it out and check out the first chapter!

Before moving to the another MV, I think you need to listen to the whole album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. You will see how verstile they are since their debut album. They are really genuises. They write their own songs since the beginning. Anyway BTS or Bangtan Sonyeodan in Korean means Bulletproof boyscouts in English and just like their name that neans being resistance to bullets, according to J-Hope, they want to block stereotypes, criticisms and expectations that aim to adolescents like bullets. They want to preserve the values and ideas of today's youth. In 2017, they extended the meaning of their name to Beyond The Scene with the door logo you see today. It symbolizes youth who don’t settle for their current reality and instead open the door and go forward to achieve growth.
I love your reaction btw. 😊💜

I don't know if you would be interested but there is this guide made by an army of all the discography (including their solo projects of each of the members): an introduction to bts' discography (from chapter one) by boracity magazine
Each album they released focused on certain themes and that's why I think it's interesting to watch this video at some point to understand it well, especially now that you are starting, although it may be a lot of information at once because is a long video.
I really enjoyed the reaction 💜

I love that you're starting from the beginning so you can see their growth, and how positive their message has always been! Their first trilogy of albums was focused on teens (because that's what they pretty much all were at the time) and speaking to them about the difficulties faced by them via Korean society's expectations of academic excellence and conformity no matter the personal cost

Please react to their whole albums too! Their title tracks are super good but all the b-sides are hidden gems. It's rare in the K-pop industry to see the kind of discography like BTS has. While other groups are more about visuals, BTS are genuinely about music so their b-sides are a must to check out!

It’s rare to have such message oriented songs in Kpop at the time I mean sure there were some artists who sang personal stories but BTS literally had a whole theme and storyline for albums based on what they feel and what they wanted to convey to the youth and now you see a lot of Kpop groups having message oriented songs or songs about their personal stories and it literally changed the whole trajectory of the way Kpop songs were made

Thank you for reacting!! I think one thing to point out is a little of culture difference. In SK you literally are going to school and studying most of the day every day. It is highly encouraged from Asian parents to do the best in school but then get a job that is secure but can make you get a lot of money like a govt. job or doctor. Also, in SK they have one of the highest su*c*de rates for kids due to how much pressure is put on them and also just not mental health not taken as seriously.
So BTS having the guts to release songs that is tell kids to find you dream and to go pursue even if it isn't the normal job or normal route. Also telling kids to look and find their dream. A lot of times I think kids don't have dreams because they were never asked or given the opportunity or asked if they wanted to do something else. For example, RM, explains once that some of the lyrics are to him in the past because he was a really good student and got amazing grades, but he didn't really have any other dreams. RM I believe said at one point he when he was younger, he wanted to be a poet, but later learned that rap can be poetry (Rythm and poetry) it inspired him to be a rapper despite his parents' disapproval. However, RM was able to convince his mother to let him purse music because he said something along these lines, “I was probably 5000th in the country in terms of grades.” According to one website, RM commented, “If I chose to keep continuing down the route I was on, I would’ve been a successful man with a career.” “So, I asked my mother if she would rather have a son who is first in what he likes or a son who is 5000th in what he likes. After that chat, my mother agreed to let me pursue my aspirations.”
This type of messaging in kpop groups is rare and it is even more impressive that the this is the message they wanted to share at the beginning of their careers. BTS got a ton of hate due to their name, what they looked like, and the messages of the songs because they were "rebellious". It is impressive that BTS had the guts to release this type of music and messages even if it could be controversial.

You were correct Jess !!! It was Suga (Yoongi/ Agustd) and Jhope (Hobi)... good for you guys !!.. the message from BTS is always positive, even when they're addressing issues that may not have been positive towards them (like when RM and Suga copped so much grief from the underground hip hop community (not all of them... but more than they should have) for joining an 'Idol' group)... the message was still basically ' if you want to be like me then work hard and be kind '.... I love that you have found something that you can share and enjoy with your sons... there is nothing better than family love of something together... Just like BTS do to each other and to Army.... 💜Borahae💜

I will be 56 years old in October and BTS found me in 2019. Army has a saying, BTS finds you when you need them most and I really did need them. I was in a massive depression and came very close to suicide. BTS is the reason I am still here. The first video I saw was Dynamite. I am ashamed to say I reacted like many Westerners do. I hated it. I hated the clothes and the bright colors - The 70's vibe is not something I ever really liked. The dancing was what made me check out their next video which was "On - Kinetic Manifesto" and I was hooked. I also thought Jimin was a girl - He is now my bias with the 6 other members hot on his heels. I love them all. Jimin did a solo song called Promise. I still listen to it every day to remind myself of where I was and where I am now. BTS brings such positivity and love to ARMY that we just cannot help but to return it in kind. I am so thankful every day that I have been able to go back to their beginnings and watch their journey to now. It is inspiring and only made me love them even more. If you choose to continue on your journey with BTS, I would suggest watching live performances with English subtitles whenever possible. Those are the best. The videos are cool and the productions are wonderful, but live is incomparable. If you use the official video and show the Big Hit logo etc. you should not get copywrites. I would also suggest checking for explanation videos for some of the songs like Spring day (Italian Army did the best one I think). Spring Day is a huge deal to the Korean people and for very good reason. The Rap line (RM, Suga, and J-Hope) do some wonderful songs that the explanation videos would make even better because it explains references that are only in the Korean culture. One that is very relevant to today is "Ugh", you would need the DKDKTV explanation to completely understand it but it would be well worth your time. BTS songs are almost always very positive and have a deeper meaning than it appears on the surface. They also have a story line that runs through several albums that is pretty cool. I hope you continue. I am subscribing in the hopes that you do. If you can watch the "Rise of Bangtan" I think you will understand better why ARMY is so in love with these young men. Good luck to you 💜💜💜💜

That article your friend sent you is so real. We don't have much of an Asian population in my country and tbh the representation in media is seriously lacking. I was confused as to why I struggled to tell them apart at first and felt bad about it too. I kept try and taking quizzes and looking at google pics and stuff until it's like I trained my brain to do it. Suddenly it's like something cleared up in my head and I was able to recognize not just them but other kpop idols much more easily without that weird mental block that was there before. It didn't make sense why I had to put in that kind of effort until my sister explained the same thing you talked about. Now I look at them and it's wild to me that I even thought certain memebers looked even remotely similar before. The human mind is wild sometimes.

You will find that BTS’s discography follows and speaks to each phase of their life. These early songs were all about youth, parental and social expectations and very young love\hormones. Their CEO Hitman Bang told them to find their own voice and it was probably one of the smartest business decisions ever made. I think their early work was more hard hitting because that is what they thought they had to be. They have grown into the artist they are today. It always amazes me how good the early songs are though. BTS are the ones that got me to appreciate Rap and HipHop. I didn't really like it before. Ours tends to be all about degrading women, money, drugs and power. RM, Suga, and JHope all showed me their flavor of rap and I love it! Some really good messages are found the their rap songs. 💜💜💜💜 Don’t worry about reading all the comments. Just know we love you spending your time enjoying BTS. 😀

Great reaction, thank you! It's amazing to see our Tannies in the early days, as you said, they came straight out of the gate swinging! I highly recommend (as another Army mentioned) the Rise of Bangtan series, it's amazing and worthy of Netflix. It takes you back to the very beginning, before debut and you see them and their journey and development. It might make it easier to recognise them too as you go through it. They give an excellent insight into their personalities and really show you their genuineness and authenticity as they speak honestly about what their thoughts/experiences are and what is going on) - also has bonus content and deleted scenes videos which are a must as well. www.youtube.com/@TheRiseOfBTS
This will take you through their earlier music to current... perhaps that's an approach that might interest you?
Hope you get better soon, and looking forward to more!

With as much as I love BTS, I also love that you do more than JUST them. Music...is how I discovered BTS. I know, that sounds strange, but let me explain...it's going to be long, though...you have been warned! LOL
Note: NOT professionals, by any stretch of the imagination, but hubby and I are both very musically inclined. He plays guitar, I play pretty much anything with keys...and the recorder...and absolutely, positively, LOVE to dance.
My mom's favorite story is when I was 6 months old, propped against a couch since I couldn't even sit up alone yet, and one of my older cousins decided to put his headphones on me. My whole body moved to the music. Actually fell over a few times because of it. Cousin took the headphones off. I screamed until he put them back on. (It's even actually on video at my mom's house to this day.) So, yep, basically, I was dancing before I could even sit up! As a young teen, I was sneaking into clubs LONG before I was legally allowed to be in them...NOT to drink, but just to DANCE. Clubs almost always had better music than what was usually on the radio.
Hubby developed a love for music thanks to his older brother actually being in a band. Sadly, his brother his buddies never stuck it out to really get anywhere, but hubby picked up the guitar at a fairly young age thanks to that influence.
    We met...we married...we had kids.
Once the kids were a little older, our "Family Time" wasn't board/card games...we didn't really do the "proper" weekly dinner thing...etc. What did we do? We'd make finger foods - fish sticks, nuggets, fries, or after dinner, we'd just make some popcorn - spread a blanket out on the living room floor and do "indoor picnics". When doing our picnics, we'd call up TH-cam on the television and have one kid call out a country, then another shout out a genre, then we'd type that in. "Russian Folk Music, Official Music Video"..."Arabic Pop, Official MV"..."German Rap, Official MV"...the list is endless. June 13, 2013...eldest daughter called out "Korea", middle child yelled "Pop". Yep, the DAY the original video of this song came out. I have 3 ARMY, and myself. Somehow the love and craziness skipped the hubby and 2 of our kids, but it's been a heck of a ride and I don't ever plan on getting off! Long after the lights go out and the stage empties for the last time, I'll STILL be ARMY. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

This was BTS' message in 2013. Their art is timeless. This still applies to today's youth.
As you follow BTS through their discography, you'll see them grow from school kids to young adults in late 20s.
Every aspect of real life situations has been represented in BTS' discography. There is music for EVERYONE here 💜🥹

@@RNTVyes someone suggested learning their voices helps because they're so distinctive. RM is a baritone, so his rapping and singing (more like speaking/singing) is distinctive. Suga is also a baritone when he speaks but his voice is higher pitched when he raps, and it's raspy and so rapid sometimes he raps faster than he can breathe. J Hope has more of a nasal tone and his rap tends to be more melodic with a flowing rhythm. V's range goes all the way from baritone to falsetto but his natural voice is lower like RM's so he's well suited to sultry, soulful R & B and jazz. Jin and JK are both tenors; JK's tenor is light and clear while Jin often does the powerful "belting" style that you hear a lot in musical theater singers. Finally Jimin is a counter tenor; high, almost flute-like and he uses a lot of vibrato and "catches".

You’ll definitely find the Rapping that’s not mean and vulgar, but positive messages always. I am 70 yo, so rapping wasn’t my favorite genre, until BTS, it’s all meaningful, SUGA and RM are the Main Rappers and songwriters, JHOPE, learned to Rap after joining BTS. But I call him a happy rapper, because he has is very own style, which I love. You’ve got 10 years of Music Videos to see, are you ready for it? My Favorite is the Award winning « Spring Day », although it has a tragic and Sad story behind it, it was written by RM in 2016, you would need to watch the explanation of the MV because BTS, uses a lot of symbolism in the MV’s, this one especially, it’s very deep, cause that’s just how RM is a deep and intellectual thinker and songwriter.

But they are the sweetest guys ever! Hahaha but they were rebels since the beggining becaused they talked about themes that nobody else talked/critiziced in Korea at that time

Feel better sooon Mike! Don’t worry too much about remembering them all right away (though you did get JHope and SUGA, Jess!). Every ARMY has had the struggle of memorizing their faces, you’ll get it before you know it! Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction. I love BTS’ older content, some reactors tend to skip it because it’s more rap-heavy or because there’s so much newer content, but their music for a year or so after their debut set the groundwork for everything that comes after. And it‘s the start of their powerful, uplifting messages, that will continue on until current day.
Also, as many have mentioned, I highly recommend watching The Rise of Bangtan series! It’ll help you get to know them and recognize them very quickly, and I think you would appreciate their story quite a bit. They are longer videos, so if that doesn’t work into your schedule, don’t worry about it! But trust me, ARMY will watch a long video as long as it’s about BTS😂. Thanks again for your reaction, Borahae💜💜

Watching this again for the first time since seeing JungKook on Suga’s show, Suchwita, and I’m even more impressed now knowing that JungKook had never sung, rapped or danced before becoming a trainee, yet here he is at 15 yrs old rapping, dancing and singing like a pro. Suga didn’t address it about any other members, but I know all of them lacked experience in different area. But now I know for sure that JK and Jin didn’t have experience in any of the 3 core areas. I’m guessing V didn’t have experience, either, but I’m not sure.
That’s not to take anything away from those who did have experience in certain areas.. just the opposite. I’m so happy BTS is exactly who they are. Those with experience most definitely influenced and taught the others so much to make the group that much better!

If your sons love rap, they should check out Ugh! And Ddaeng, make sure you watch the explanation videos for those ones too because there’s a ton of Korean wordplay that’s lost if you don’t know Korean! They’ll also probably love Persona by RM, mic drop, Ma City, Dope and Fire! Also hiphop phile and paldogangsan for early BTS rap!
Otherwise, I think y’all will really enjoy Idol, Zero O’Clock, Euphoria, Louder than Bombs, we are bulletproof: the eternal, Mikrokosmos, So What, Answer, Anpanman, The Truth Untold, Tear, I’m Fine, Magic Shop, Airplane pt 2, Butterfly, Whalien 52, Outro Wings, You Never Walk Alone, Lost, Tomorrow, Nevermind - a lot of these are their more emotional songs where they connect with army or speak of their struggles. If you can also watch them perform these live, it’s worth it! *especially* Answer, Idol, Magic Shop and Tear. BTS are one of those groups that’s better live than they are on a CD (which is wild because they’re already incredible on the CD lol). Don’t be afraid to ask army for links too! I’m not sure if y’all have a discord or an instagram where we can send you performances to watch but we’re always happy to help you find the best version! Borahae friends 💜💜💜

BTS were heavily criticized by industry people and those in power for their rebellious message in the beginning. But they were writing their own music and putting their own thoughts and feelings out there and they were speaking on mental health, socio-political and economic issues, and just really weighty stuff.
About this message - it’s a bigger deal than you realize.
First of all, S Korea is a conservative and hierarchical country, so BTS were speaking **way** out of turn, criticizing their elders and societal problems and speaking with a loud and critical voice as ‘nobodies from a nothing company.’
Secondly, it’s important to know that the pressures in S Korea on students are absolutely immense. They are railroaded to peruse other people’s dreams (their parents and elders) and working their butts off just for an uninspired future of supposed financial stability, not allowed to have dreams and passions of their own. As a result, S Korea has the highest suicide rate for the 10-19 age range in the entire world. So this is baby Bangtan out here trying to literally save lives by encouraging kids to just say no and to embrace their own dreams before they give up on life completely in despair.

In South Korea children go to school15 hours a day and are under tremendous pressure to excel all the time and as a result South Korea has the highest suicide rate among young people in the world. This is whats behind BTS 's earlier message ...to not worry about the pressure to cobform so much.

Yes, they've always been very opinionated in the best way possible. 😅 Another great example is Baepsae (no mv) *however* that one absolutely requires the explanation video made by DKDKTV. That explanation also explains some cultural concepts that they refer to in other songs as well that are really good to know.
Spine Breaker might be a good one for your kids to hear. 😅 DKDKTV for that one too. They made the hilarious MV themselves on a program dare so you should definitely watch the making-of video as well for that one when you get to it (BTS Gayo ep. 15).
    🤣🤣🤣
And then *most importantly* there's *Spring Day* aka "the Queen" which (trigger warning) references a national tragedy involving kids and 100% requires the explanation video made by Italian ARMY (linked below) to realize just how much they've been willing to risc politically to get a point across. Bring plenty of tissue for that one! 😢 *Spring Day has been on the South Korean charts non-stop for five years so far and for good reason!*
TIP: You can find all of their older songs subbed on the TH-cam channel 1theK. It's just as official and safe to react to. It wasn't until later they started their current YT channel and they unfortunately didn't bother with subtitles on the oldest songs. 😉👍

To generally get a feel for their music (and thinking about what kind of music you guys like) I recommend the songs "black swan", "ON: kinetic manifesto film", "Outro tear" live performance with eng subs; which features the rap line of bts and "the truth untold" live performance stage mix w/ eng subs (sorry that was a mouthful😅); which features the vocal line of bts. Sorry I know that's a lot of recommendations but out of all of them I'd say the truth untold in particular I think you guys will really like (the lyrics and melody are so beautiful and emotional😢💕)
