Phillips head screws look weird on a firearm.

Yeah. Total eyesore. Not sure what they were thinking, especially on such a classy pistol. I'd have changed the entire design to eliminate the screw, or at least use a more sightly screw. Hex or torx security or something like that. Anything but a Phillips head.

Might be something related to the effort and difficultly required to make something.
Paper and polymer are easy to get, plentiful, are used in extremely cheap and nasty products. Stuff like zip lock bags and Federal Reserve notes.
But stuff like gold, steel, forged alloys, silver, titanium and the like take a lot more effort to mine, refine, shape, and finish. Maybe with age comes wisdom, understanding what real assets are.
Was thinking earlier today, why have we accepted the use of pieces of cheap paper as currency? All they gotta do is press a 'print button' and it devaluates overnight instantly, with very little effort except some cotton and tree pulp and some ink. Paper is cheap and abundant. And on top of that the USA pays interest for the use of each and every stinking piece of that paper.
What if people were asked to ascribe the power of goods/service transfer to pieces of limestone? It's laying everywhere on the ground, why don't we use that instead? It's too easy to get! Right! And paper is too!
Gold is very difficult to get, takes a ton of time and energy and effort to create coinage and bar. It cannot be devalued with the press of a button.

I like the 645 a lot however finding one in decent condition is difficult. There is new guns on the market that are awesome too that have the same look and feel as the 645. I went with the Kimber stainless Custom II. Same size as the 645 except its a 1911. Awesome gun! You cant ever go wrong with a 1911 especially with all the parts and magazines available for them. Finding 645 mags is very difficult. In fact any of the old S&W mags are hard to get. Because of that I recommend some of the other new guns. For example the stainless SAR 2000 is an awesome high quality gun that is extremely cheap plus it can use CZ-75 mags and has that nostalgia feel to it.

I have one of these and when I bought it I knew nothing about S. Crockett carrying one. Why is it always mentioned? Who GAF about Sonny Crockett? I wanted adjustable sights on a 1911 in .45. I haven't shot this in years(!), but it's my gf every night.😉 I had to adjust the rear sight all the way up to get it where I wanted it to aim...putting the front sight on where you wanted to hit instead of below like most guns. I just looked at the receipt: $490.60 w/o tax. Bought in February, 1988.

I've never been a fan of 1911's because my grandfather's experience with that model during WW2 while he was in the pacific. He hated his, and said it was the least accurate weapon he ever fired. If he ever ran out of ammunition his plan was to throw it at the Japanese, in hope's of finally hitting something with it! LOL 😆 this is the same guy who drank torpedo fuel ⛽! I asked him if that might have been the issue with his pistol accuracy, so one smack on the back of the head later, we'd gotten back to working on whatever was being built at the time. I have dipped into the polymer realm before but always preferred all metal . I feel like you and guess I'm just getting old. Im only 38 but feel and have the taste of "older". I don't mind carrying full size and weight and like I mentioned prefer it. I mostly go to smaller or gun and pawn shops bc I like the older stuff. It just feels and looks better and moat of the time made better. Just look at the wood difference from the last 20 years. Its so cheap and fake now unless you get a very high end or custom. I like those 3&4 series Smith's personally and they do look very similar to a 1911 but beefier. Very cool find and rare as well. Appreciate you adding to help Matt's channel. Appreciate the video man. 🐍🇺🇸

I got mine new in '85 to carry as my first duty auto loader on a small city police dept in Alaska that you had to buy your own gun and qual with it.. Then I went over to the Troopers, and back to a wheel gun, and a few years later to a county dept outside Wash DC, and still with a wheel gun until they went with Beretta 92s and later Glocks in 9mm and then .40. You could buy your duty Glock and carry it so I got my Gen 2 G17 that saved my life a few times. I STILL have my 645 though! A great shooting gun that will feed anything-including empty brass cases. It never had any issues in the years I carried it and it really feels good in your hand. Its a pretty accurate auto out of the box. In all whats not to love?
