Force Majeure is still my all-time favorite Tangerine Dream album to this day. What a blast this is! The title track is a masterpiece. Cloudburst Flight is one of the strongest tracks they have ever made in terms of how the song builds. And on Thru Metamorphic Rocks, Tangerine Dream even goes quite over-the-top with the way the song is structured. A unique and excellent album that fascinates from start to finish.
Incredible album... an amazing mix of synths and rock music... unique album but they didn't stay with this sound for long. Wish we could have heard a few more LPs like this though I do love what's coming next.
Wow… now this is a HUGE step up compared to Cyclone. In fact, this actually beats Phaedra as my favorite album from TD. I love the way the progressive rock instrumentation works well against the synths to create such a mystical and majestic listening experience. The tradition of the longest tracks being the best tracks on any of their albums continues as the title track is my favorite track of the bunch. In my estimation, this might even go down as the best track I’ve heard from this group so far, bar none. The best moments in TD’s catalogue always felt like they were taking me on such an emotive journey, but after listening to that, I think it may very well be the best example of that; I love it! Cloudburst Flight and Thru Metamorphic Rocks are both great tracks too though. Overall, awesome album for sure. I am most definitely hanging on to this longer term.
Greetings mr wonkyangle! Since you have reviewed oldschool (70s-80s) electronic/dance acts from britain & germany before (like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, OMD & the Pet Shop Boys) could you please do a review of these 3 international & perhaps influential forgotten underground electronic/dance classics from the 80s? 😊 1. Heaven 17 - _"The Luxury Gap"_ (1982) 2. Propaganda - _"A Secret Wish"_ (1985) 3. Renegade Soundwave - _"Soundclash"_ (1989)
OH WOW!!! That segment from the title track was used during the scene where Lana takes Joel's virginity away. I didn't know it was from THIS album though. Come to think of it, I actually thought Risky Business has all original music by TD. But it turns out only the Love on a Real Train sequence was the only new song written for that film. I watched this film with my friend a couple years ago and he pointed out the scene where Joel turns the hose on and the water comes out in slomo features music from their album Tangram.
@@lotusglobe2671 TD's first score was rejected by the director Paul Brickman and the film company wanted to drop TD and get another composer in, but Paul (against the wishes of the company) flew to Berlin to talk to TD. They were forced to copy the temp score (which was Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians - check out part 6). The Dream is Always the Same and Love on Real Train were both composed for the film as were a couple of others
Force Majeure is an album that always appealed to me from first listen, and unlike some of their later more melodic works, has not reduced in appeal over time. It has similar long-term likability alongside Phaedra & Rubycon. But it's quite different from those more ambient outings, with the stronger prog feel and percussion. Either way, it's a classic.
Hello Wonky Angle! Please I wish to ask what your thoughts are about David Guetta's song with Sia called "She Wolf (Falling to pieces.)" Would you say it is better then Titanium or worse than Titanium?
Incredibly I skipped this album in my younger age too and just recently discovered. Same as you. What an awesome album it is!!!! It became one of my top 3 favorite TD albums
Hey, I'm not sure if this has been suggested before but you should check out 'Inside a Quiet Mind' by Micronism, it's been called the best techno album from New Zealand and just won an award for its reissue. Has an interesting backstory to it. =)
This album's title track immediately shows that, despite their somewhat underwhelming and unoriginal previous effort, they were still more than capable of creating unique, beautiful, and thought-provoking masterpieces, evoking landscapes never explored before or since. Force Majeure is that kind of music piece where you never know where's heading next, yet everything that happens always makes sense. It's a one-of-a-kind experience that seamlessly blends a bit of every sound explored up to this point in their discography with a better-sounding, more recognizable sound, reminiscent of some of the things they'd be doing during the 80s. And It gets quite epic and magnificent near the end. It's my favorite track they ever made. Also, am I the only one who loves the almost last section of the title track? Those charming melodies always remind me of Jean-Jacques Perrey. It's an excellent way to finish a track that already managed to reach immense levels of awesomeness up to that point. That being said, the remaining two tracks shift to a more modest and slowly-paced style. While they complement each other nicely, the way they're structured clashes with the more adventurous nature of that opening masterpiece. Nonetheless, while they might not be as breathtaking as the opening track, they're not boring or mediocre; they're still decent additions to the experience! Beautiful album.
Music from Soundtrack from Risky Business TD did the score i have it on vinyl and cd there tracks from there wasn't on any or many studio albums maybe the compliatons..
When you consider that some bands only release a handful of albums, Tangerine Dream by far exceeds most bands throughout history with the number of albums they have released. It would be nearly impossible to release a hit record every time. Some Are amazing and others miss the mark but they have been very successful in releasing some gems throughout their careers and are still making some impressive music in their current lineup.
this has nothing to do with the video itself so sorry for being off topic but omg you're wearing an 0pn tshirt! i literally Just started listening to his discography lmao (to prepare for Again ofc)
Lol…Force is an amazing release but Cyclone continues to be one of my favourite (if not the favourite) TD albums largely due to the vocals and the musical style. Yes, go ahead, crucify me. 😊
I know hiphop isn't your thing, so do you atleast listen to hiphop beat tapes? like madlib's bandana beats which is the instrumental version of his and freddie gibbs album bandana.
This is how I learn about 90% of electronic music
Yeah, it’s a shame that this discography review isn’t getting the views it deserves. TD needs some more recognition these days!

Poland and Exit are my faves.
One of their best work!
I've been checking out Tangerine Dream's earlier stuff lately, and this might be my favorite. Thru Metamorphic Rocks is phenomenal.
Mid 70s - mid 80s is my favorite era. I got into them around 1986, just amazing. FM is a great album, Cyclone, is also a favorite.
Force Majeure was where I started when I decided to get into TD in 2008. It blew me away!
Another classic, a TD top 5 for me!

The title track from 4:00-8:51 was used in the movie Risky Business.Klous Krüger's drums was a custom built polyester kit

Good review. My favorite TD album. Have you dipped into the Gong/Hillage/System 7/Tim Blake rabbit hole?

From another fellow Yes fan here, the main keyboard melody sequence in Cloudburst Flight reminds me of the pre-verse part in To Be Over.

Beautiful album.
The last part of the title track is a cover of Arcangelo Corelli's La Folia
are you seeing them on tour?
It's my second favourite TD album! It makes me feel like a knight :D
Just wanna give you a heads up that the new KOAN Sound album came out and its absolutely insane! I haven't heard a bad word about it yet.
Hey Wonkly Angle. Quick update that The Chemicsl Brothers releaesd their tenth album: For That Beautiful Feeling yesterday.

When I read that "Cloudburst Flight" was your least favorite track I immediately knew that your opinions mean nothing to me.
nothing against Cloudburst Flight, there's only 3 tracks to choose from and I just happen to like the other two more
For me the weakest track is Thru Metamorphic Rock... never really a fav.
Disco drums?????

Wonky Angle doesn't review much in the way of rave music.
Now it's Frooze, come on man, stick to one pronunciation
Don't like it! The beginning of the end... some ridiculous souds! And 'Cyclone' will be horrible...
