An idea for your pastured trees. Put mulch and cardboard down to kill the grass inside the fenced area or a little beyond it and you might not need to string trim. Love you guys, your an inspiration to us all. Thanks for everything.
Oh loves. I have commented once before regarding Jonah. Your journey touches my families heart so deeply. My husband had a similar injury when he was 14 because of a motorcycle accident. He is now in his mid 60's and he only watches your videos when it is about Jonah because he is your boys biggest cheerleader. When all was said and done John (my husband) ended up with a 5 inch leg discrepancy (please get Jonah a lifted shoe as soon as it makes sense to your medical team) - John did not do this until his 40's and caused himself so much spinal damage. Watching Jonah walk is like seeing my husband when I first met him. Brings up so many emotions! The leg discrepancy happens because of bone death in a time of big growing. While John has had a hard row to hoe in many ways. At 45 he got a full hip replacement and they extended his leg by 4 inches. It was life changing. He has had a full life; worked a physical job (auto detailer and custodian) for his whole adult working life and wouldn't change anything. It made him into the man he became. Flowers grow in the shit life puts in front of us. I know this is hard. Our hearts are with you.
They should not have let him ride a motor bike at his age, that’s what happens when a bad decision is made your kid has to live with it. They don’t realize what they did, now the other kid is on the bike, yikes.
@@lauratohome Hmm, it’s hard being a parent. Life happens, you can keep your kids in a bubble- but you can’t control everything. My sisters friend got hit by a car while standing in our front yard! Random stuff happens. Judging people who choose to share their lives with us online is not helpful. I am just grateful the Rhodes family picks up their camera and inspires me. I live with chronic disabilities because I had a severe fall as a baby. I can tell you my 80 year old Dad suffers every day because of the pain I live in. He missed catching me by inches. There are many days I feel defeated and watching Justin and his family has helped me push past and get into my garden or go outside. I aim for my 1% and am never going to judge another parent for their choices. We all love our kids and are doing our best. I honestly don’t know a single farm family that doesn’t have a motorcycle for covering ground on their land.
Wishing Jonah a good decision for his hip and a speedy recovery and I pray all goes well for him, he is always so positive about it all and he deserves a break. Core decompression in both of my hips staved off twenty years of me needing a total hip replacement on one of my hips. And, as for the other hip I still haven’t needed the replacement. Both of my hip dockets were totally dead and that is called AVN. I was fortunate that my hip Doctor is a surgeon and physician to the Spur’s basketball team. I’ll be praying for you Jonah!
Its a shame not all Drs are created equal. I learned this wen a surgeon butchered me & My lawyers told me its more acceptable to the law that Drs who are not as qualified (barely graduated) migrate to smaller towns while the MOST qualified make big bucks & work at Cedars Siani in Los Angeles (near BevHills), for example. I didnt kno that in SoCalif, the measure of "Best" starts at Cedars Siani and works its way outward.
My son, when 9 yo, had Perthes Disease, necrosis of femur head, bone dying no weight bearing wearing sling and crutches. His Orthopedic doc was a surgeon who was doc to Michigan State Univ sports team. He took bone donor from iliac crest to plant in other hip joint. That restored circulation in that hip reducing time on sling and crutches. That procedure no longer done.

Jonah, it sounds like a long road to recovery. Every accident is. You are young but don’t stop striving for a recovery your parents are comfortable with. I’m on year #4 from a broken sternum. All good but the “phantom” pains and aches from the overlapping break. I never had a broken bone until 8 years ago-digging in with my toes and pushing/pulling a heavy cart broke my metatarsal bones in 2 toes.
Justin! I'm closing on a house :) It doesn't have the acreage i wanted... but its local was too good to pass on (right across the street from the baseball field in town!) plus its in a cute town and a perfect house so I'm happy, maybe I wont have cows, hopefully I can sneak in some chickens, but my big thing for my kids will be growing lemons and fruits so we can sell fresh lemonade and fruit pops at sport games, I think that'll do better then eggs if we get out on the right days lol :) Wish Us Luck!!!!

And as well as you are raising your children you will never regret what your doing. And you are all brave to have a large family sharing a small home while having the original remodeled. I also love that all but the youngest jump in and often have ideas to improve the farm, they are not afraid of hard work. And I’m always in awe that the baby is almost always on your back. And even he seems to be picking up in interest in helping. And somehow you can always find a way to give each child a job that interests them. And your oldest children could almost run that farm. Regarding the baby trees and the grass inside the fenced off area, it might help to add a lot more woodchips up to the fencing so you don't have to mow.

Justin, our almost 2 year old son just had a 2-3 day spell where he was vomiting a few times and bad blowouts/stomach hurting. Had a little temperature as well. We heard multiple friends who have kids around the same age have also gone through the same thing. Hope Henry is feelin better!

I’m not sure how old Jonah is but my lil guy just turned 18. He started driving himself to some of his therapy, ortho appointments at 17 and this is really helping him to mature and take ownership of his body. Maybe Jonah will soon be able to do the same. He is pretty mature already!! Could help the family out tooo. Love to all….
Wow! Just saw the commercial for School of Trades! Awesome Justin. About Jonah, why do they have to keep cutting on him? Just maybe he should see a top surgeon in the world and get his leg/hip fixed once for all? Seems like cutting on him this often would be counter productive. Wouldn't all that scar tissue work against his recovery? I feel so sad, he's so young and whoever the surgeons are must not be very good. They missed the flap on hip joint the first surgery. That probably didn't need to happen. I'm really worried about him on becoming a chronic pain patient for his future. I ran a nonprofit pain organization for several years and was Florida state leader for the American Pain Foundation too and the majority of chronic pain patients all had several surgeries leaving them suffering and disabled for life. So please get to a top surgeon maybe even need to go to another country to find them but he's young and this shouldn't be happening. Jmo. 😔

Inversion table for Jonah would do a world of good to relieve pressure on the joint. The inflammation is causing damage by not allowing blood flow. IMHO. Least invasive. Don't take my word for it, look into it. I noticed how he stands uneven. That's how I used to stand. I went through a number of doctors who were complete failures in healing, they all wanted to fuse my vertebrae in my back when the problem was my hip. I went for a few years with a cane first then crutches and didn't get a proper diagnosis till I screamed at an orthopedic surgeon that it was my hip and not my back. This doctor finally listened and xrayed my hip. When he came back from reading the xray he announced to me that I needed emergency surgery for my hip and pelvis, which was fractured in 4 places. Bottom line is I didn't have much relief and healing till I took the pressure off of the hip everyday using an inversion table. I felt relief right away. These tables are not expensive and you'll be able to tell right away if it's giving him relief.
The man who came out to help is living G-ds principles. When i got sick i looked toward my friend. Handled her illness with grace. If she can do: so can i.

from the beginning, Jonah has known instinctively, 'the better way' so many times. You've listened to him many times when you were running water...and doing other efforts around that farm. He's been buying his own tools - remember that first saw 🙂 he was so excited. You do well...sometimes telling him, many times listening to him...and saying "why not try". It's a wonderful thing, growing children into men and women who can trust their own knowledge and ideas.
Justin, I had cut the bone and rotated when I was 14. It's a good idea to get second and third opinions. And if you are really worried, take him to Boston Childern Hospital. They are number 1 hospital in United States. I went there for second opinion before I had my operation.

Instead of a cortisone injection, try asking about Platelet Rich Plasma injections. They take his own blood separate the plasma containing platelets and inject them into the target area. It helps alleviate pain, improve mobility and decrease inflammation. The cytokines and growth factors that are in platelets can help repair injuries and encourage healing.
May I suggest troughs for the milk for the pigs?? No spillage? My chickens used to love it when I carried them..... lol. Cause I'd tell them how good they were. Ha ha ha....😎👍😄🌷❤ this is a crazy farm right now....lol. I absolutely adore chickens.
There's a thing called "core decompression" that they can do for avascular necrosis. They drill into the side of the femur straight into the ball, but not breaking through the surface of the ball. They just leave the hole empty to decompress the head of the femur and allow blood vessel regrowth. I don't know if Jonah would be a candidate for it.
Hi Justin my friend had hip replacement at the age of 20 , she was in labour with her first baby and she had an epidural but the doctor that checked on her last missed the that part let her legs go and it came off the socket femur and hips was only after the epidural worn off that she was much pain they took her for an MRI and they realised the damage it caused, she had surgery 2 days later and they put a ceramic head into the hip that will last for around 30 years,she is fine but can’t dance like she used to 😢,wish Jonah all the best and love 🇬🇧😊
Let the boys concentrate on execution and running the farm. You, big daddy, can plan and organize things so the work is more efficient. The goal is efficiency. You are expanding the farm, you need to build in efficiency.

If you can make it to Northern Virginia, I can recommend Dr. Bradley Boyd for a second opinion. He helped me when no other hip surgeons would. He replaced both my hips and I trust him implicitly.
Finally taking Jonah to real Dr's! Praying for sound decisions to be made for his care. And that family who came to help instead of going to Church on Sunday. They know God's word. Religion is not going into a Church building it is James 1: 27 Pure and unblemished religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress. In other words DO GOOD not look good!
While you can certainly do good works on Sunday if you have a church to go to or you just give the day to God He will make the other 6 days more productive!

Yeah. Think he should not be on that bike not smart after he was hurt badly by riding it in the first place, and still limping.
Jonah on the mower is safer. But you need to make him wear safety glasses.he could lose his sight from a rock kicking up.

Jonah, it sounds like a long road to recovery. Every accident is. You are young but don’t stop striving for a recovery your parents are comfortable with. I’m on year #4 from a broken sternum. All good but the “phantom” pains and aches from the overlapping break. I never had a broken bone until 8 years ago-digging in with my toes and pushing/pulling a heavy cart broke my metatarsal bones in 2 toes.
Justin! I'm closing on a house :) It doesn't have the acreage i wanted... but its local was too good to pass on (right across the street from the baseball field in town!) plus its in a cute town and a perfect house so I'm happy, maybe I wont have cows, hopefully I can sneak in some chickens, but my big thing for my kids will be growing lemons and fruits so we can sell fresh lemonade and fruit pops at sport games, I think that'll do better then eggs if we get out on the right days lol :) Wish Us Luck!!!!

I also love that all but the youngest jump in and often have ideas to improve the farm, they are not afraid of hard work. And I’m always in awe that the baby is almost always on your back. And even he seems to be picking up in interest in helping. And somehow you can always find a way to give each child a job that interests them. And your oldest children could almost run that farm. Great parenting.
I am also jealous of the kitchen you had… can’t imagine how big the new one will be👨🔬

Regarding the baby trees and the grass inside the fenced off area, it might help to add a lot more woodchips up to the fencing so you don't have to mow.

Justin, our almost 2 year old son just had a 2-3 day spell where he was vomiting a few times and bad blowouts/stomach hurting. Had a little temperature as well. We heard multiple friends who have kids around the same age have also gone through the same thing. Hope Henry is feelin better!

I’m not sure how old Jonah is but my lil guy just turned 18. He started driving himself to some of his therapy, ortho appointments at 17 and this is really helping him to mature and take ownership of his body. Maybe Jonah will soon be able to do the same. He is pretty mature already!! Could help the family out tooo. Love to all….
There are big decisions to make here and a child can’t do that. He needs his parents to attend ALL appointments.
Wow! Just saw the commercial for School of Trades! Awesome Justin. About Jonah, why do they have to keep cutting on him? Just maybe he should see a top surgeon in the world and get his leg/hip fixed once for all? Seems like cutting on him this often would be counter productive. Wouldn't all that scar tissue work against his recovery? I feel so sad, he's so young and whoever the surgeons are must not be very good. They missed the flap on hip joint the first surgery. That probably didn't need to happen. I'm really worried about him on becoming a chronic pain patient for his future. I ran a nonprofit pain organization for several years and was Florida state leader for the American Pain Foundation too and the majority of chronic pain patients all had several surgeries leaving them suffering and disabled for life. So please get to a top surgeon maybe even need to go to another country to find them but he's young and this shouldn't be happening. Jmo. 😔

Inversion table for Jonah would do a world of good to relieve pressure on the joint. The inflammation is causing damage by not allowing blood flow. IMHO. Least invasive. Don't take my word for it, look into it. I noticed how he stands uneven. That's how I used to stand. I went through a number of doctors who were complete failures in healing, they all wanted to fuse my vertebrae in my back when the problem was my hip. I went for a few years with a cane first then crutches and didn't get a proper diagnosis till I screamed at an orthopedic surgeon that it was my hip and not my back. This doctor finally listened and xrayed my hip. When he came back from reading the xray he announced to me that I needed emergency surgery for my hip and pelvis, which was fractured in 4 places. Bottom line is I didn't have much relief and healing till I took the pressure off of the hip everyday using an inversion table. I felt relief right away. These tables are not expensive and you'll be able to tell right away if it's giving him relief.

from the beginning, Jonah has known instinctively, 'the better way' so many times. You've listened to him many times when you were running water...and doing other efforts around that farm. He's been buying his own tools - remember that first saw 🙂 he was so excited. You do well...sometimes telling him, many times listening to him...and saying "why not try". It's a wonderful thing, growing children into men and women who can trust their own knowledge and ideas.
Justin, I had cut the bone and rotated when I was 14. It's a good idea to get second and third opinions. And if you are really worried, take him to Boston Childern Hospital. They are number 1 hospital in United States. I went there for second opinion before I had my operation.
Don't do it. That hospital is famous for medical kidnapping and it happens when parents disagree with treatment course!
@Denise Rollick hmm No. LOL. The Dr. Their told my father that operation was the right thing to do and to go ahead with using Connecticut children's hospital.

She is trying to patiently wait to be 12 years old and get her horse. What a happy day that will be for her!
The boys buy all of tthose things with their own earned money. A horse is a lot of work and can be a huge expense.

Instead of a cortisone injection, try asking about Platelet Rich Plasma injections. They take his own blood separate the plasma containing platelets and inject them into the target area. It helps alleviate pain, improve mobility and decrease inflammation. The cytokines and growth factors that are in platelets can help repair injuries and encourage healing.

There's a thing called "core decompression" that they can do for avascular necrosis. They drill into the side of the femur straight into the ball, but not breaking through the surface of the ball. They just leave the hole empty to decompress the head of the femur and allow blood vessel regrowth. I don't know if Jonah would be a candidate for it.
Hi Justin my friend had hip replacement at the age of 20 , she was in labour with her first baby and she had an epidural but the doctor that checked on her last missed the that part let her legs go and it came off the socket femur and hips was only after the epidural worn off that she was much pain they took her for an MRI and they realised the damage it caused, she had surgery 2 days later and they put a ceramic head into the hip that will last for around 30 years,she is fine but can’t dance like she used to 😢,wish Jonah all the best and love 🇬🇧😊

If you can make it to Northern Virginia, I can recommend Dr. Bradley Boyd for a second opinion. He helped me when no other hip surgeons would. He replaced both my hips and I trust him implicitly.

Finally taking Jonah to real Dr's! Praying for sound decisions to be made for his care. And that family who came to help instead of going to Church on Sunday. They know God's word. Religion is not going into a Church building it is James 1: 27 Pure and unblemished religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress. In other words DO GOOD not look good!
While you can certainly do good works on Sunday if you have a church to go to or you just give the day to God He will make the other 6 days more productive!
