I’m no expert but I’m gonna go out on a limb say the majority of people Who have a problem with drinking aren’t the ones who do it for fun but to drown pain anxiety stress etc
Hi there. About half way through the video I scrolled down with this urge to type a comment... I wanted to say I have been completed stone cold sober for just over 5 years, and yet I STILL miss only the relaxing and happy (or euphoria) when socialising with my friends or just being on my own. We have a fishing trip coming up at the ocean in two weeks and I STILL am fearful of going because I know I'll miss the couple of drinks around the bonfire on the beach relaxing and enjoying the time together with friends. BUT then I heard you talking further about the choices and how the brain works and how your brain actually tries to fight the alchocol to maintain balance. At the end of the video I changed my mind about what I wanted to say because I realised how true and spot on your words were, well for me at least. I guess alcohol will always be there and I will always miss some part of it. but I will never let it be my boss again. once drink is too many. So I'm going to sit by that bonfire with my feet in the sand on the beach and just feel awesome about being clean and part of nature. At least I'll still feel great the next day
You will and it's okay to miss something about it as long as you realize that there really isn't a benefit. You're not missing out, you're just experiencing it differently.
Kratom my friend. Never feel like I need to drink anymore. I've been hospitalized and rehabbed over a dozen times In years past too. If I want a feel good buzz now, get a shot of Kratom. ❤
@@ThisNakedMind There's a ton of benefits. That's why I'm looking for alternatives. The advantages of alcohol are that it gets you into a particularly adventerous kind of high, that it lasts for a long time, is quite cheap and it allows you to sleep pretty soon after. Cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines, etc all don't quite fit.
@MrCmon113 ehh a lot of that isn’t even true and using the term benefit with alcohol is almost assured to be wrong. Many people are sleepless after alcohol consumption. Not one person wakes up the next day proud of alcohol consumption.
This is good. What are you going to give up for that 20 minutes! Ha! I felt like a beer today. It was sunny. There were people out in the street. But seriously. One would lead to another. I'd feel sick in no time. Groggy. Tired. And I have stuff to do tomorrow! I need to be on form. I went to get a sandwich, sit by the river. The feeling was gone in no time. And it's the evening now. I am off to bed with a good book and then I've got all my stuff to do tomorrow. I will wake up. My head will be clear. I sacrificed those twenty minutes for two days. I am winning!
Definitely not! I'm no longer a slave to alcohol. To any anything or anyone I am free. My substitute now is exercise, nature, reading and inspirational videos. I don't need to run anymore. I am enough bless you all ,you are enough 🙏
You watch an inspirational video and then you sing songs loudly with your friends at 4am on the streets and break into a zoo and wake up on a rooftop? I doubt it.
This is a great video lots of good info. One good thing I found you can use to replace or help with stopping alcohol or smoking is. After stopping take up a sport. Maybe running or a gym workout. This helps to reinforce I will not be able to do my new much loved activity if I start drinking again. I also found dry January’s can lead to looking forward to 1st February and a heavy drinking session. A question I get asked a lot is why don’t you drink? My answer is I don’t like it.
You are so right the anticipation and euphoria of cracking open a can of beer is the best bit. I only realised that after you pointed it out. I drink 0.0 Guinness and other NA drinks and the relaxation I feel as I pour the can is the best... I haven't had alcohol for 358 days and I was starting to waver at the year mark approaches. but from past experience alcohol does not magically taste nicer than NA beer, it's all an illusion. Thank you for helping me from bonnie Scotland x
What problem do I want? Is it worth it? For 20 minutes high & pay the price for hours of anxiety or (initially) the other way round x thanks - let’s try- wire 😙
I found kombucha to be really helpful especially in brown glass bottles. When everyone is on in around you they don’t give you such a hard time for not joining in. It’s still a fermented beverage. Just ethanol free my car runs on ethanol it’s messed up that it’s so popular.
All good information: but you provide NO SOLUTIONS/SUBSTITUTIONS at all. The Title is: "What can I substitute for alcohol to feel good?" What are these things? For instance: Kava, weed, tea, or something else? I listened to you talk and waited for the solution, but did not hear any.
Also: if you don't want to waste people's time: I recommend you change the title of your video. The information spoken IS NOT a waste of time, but the way you have it advertised: IS.
I agree 💯 percent. This is useful in changing perspective on drinking but has no substitutes like nootropics or adaptogens or even tasty non-alcoholic beverages. I’d thumbs down this video for the misleading title but I think the perspective on drinking is worth it to those who haven’t already heard it before and encouraging sobriety is a positive thing.
@@ThisNakedMind What I'm using, and I don't want to recommend it since there's not a whole lot of studies out there on it, is use Kava. And picking the right distributor is vital. You can spend a lot of money on garbage. Kava gives the buzz and relaxation.
For me it's not about the euphoria anymore but rather mentally checking out of a toxic marriage. Stopping drinking hasn't stopped the insanity. That's probably a whole different video. Best
@Sing Love I get along particularly well with children when I'm shitfaced. I've even have some bottles of wine that some school kids gave to me when I spontaneously hung out with them drunk.
Is it worth it? When you have nothing else left to lose, yes. At that point, why not? And what if the euphoria lasts longer? And you fall asleep after having laughed for hours? Then wake up remembering all the fun you had the night before?
I don't understand what people mean with "euphoria" from alcohol. Alcohol has a range of positive effects, which then lead to different behavior, which leads to euphoria. But when I just sit in place drinking and doing nothing, that doesn't cause euphoria. So an alcohol alternative should cause the same behavioral changes as alcohol.
I thought sex would be a way to get that euphoria but my wife was less than impressed with that idea Doh! : ) the really annoying thing is you are so spot on, we all know it, we just hoped there would be an easier alternative, but there isn't, least ways not that I have found damn it ! Thank you for you straight up comments.

Yes, there is often a traumatic event that triggers the response to drink.
Yes, I feel self medicating (uncomfortable feelings) is such a slippery slope-
No shit
I've done it for that but just the ritual of cooking a steak with a beer or playing guitar is fun, almost a year sober and do miss it at times
Defo for fun here or started that way then everything is an excuse to keep the habit going. Needs honesty.

I dumped alcohol couple months back. I am successfully getting comfortable with being bored on purpose. And I am liking the slower activity state.
Planned boredom in this overstimulated society is such a profound idea.
You are a Zen thinker and I'm the thief.
Gonna steal this idea !!
Good job.
What a great concept and mindset!
Absolutely I love the slower, more peaceful pace of being alcohol free compared to the madness of drinking

If you guys actually paid attention, you'd see that trying to be bored itself is not just far from boring, but impossible.

I love being sober, I'd much rather be bored sober, I can actually remember the movies I'm watching 🙃
Same here!!
I've done the timer experiment 4 times now and this is 100% true...and the second "high" is lower and shorter than the first, and on and on...
So not worth it!
Valerian root , chewed raw as fresh as possible, or a strong extract (calming, but the most fun without being addictive)
Thanks for sharing the suggestion!
post workout buzz from a hard weightraining workout is pretty good. All perfectly healthy too

The information is the answer. We shouldn't be looking for things outside of ourselves in order to feel good. It should be coming from within.
I hear you, and that is true, but to an alcoholic quickly looking for an answer: this video is a complete waste of time.
Also: if you don't want to waste people's time: I recommend you change the title of your video. The information spoken IS NOT a waste of time, but the way you have it advertised: IS.

Drinking to numb is certainly a reason so many of us had! Hoping you find peace and healing in all these areas!
