Chapter Masters must at times maneuver inter chapter politics,oaths,alliances and agreements. Lobby for their Chapters and causes with other Imperial organizations. For example. An Astartes chapter is pledged to defend a specific forge world in exchange for the Mechanicus supplying them with things. Or needing to work with a Chapter whose doctrines clash with one's own. In my own opinion they are hybrid warriors and a temporary, albeit long term administrators. We forget that their mental abilities are beyond most humans.

OMG; I just finished Valdor: Birth of the Imperium and I love how this ties into the book. It's nice to think that the records the High Lord wanted so bad to safe guard for prosperity ended up in the hands of the Inquisition. Great Work!
This was amazing I had no idea that the Astartes got their name from the scientist that created them. I always assumed the Emperor made them I had never heard any mention of this lore. Very cool.

The Goddess Astartes (also known Ishtar, Isha...) was the tauric Goddess par excellence, of storms and creation (which woman emulates like she does the Moon) like Venus / Aphrodite, both a goddess of Love and War. The Adeptus / Legio Astartes was inspired by Medieval Chivalry in particular due to cultural reasons, as such Astartes was chosen to replace Maria who belongs to the Virginal cycle which is too Christian connotated. She nevertheless is the strict equivalent of the Lover of the medieval Troubadours, and of the loved Lady of the Amour Courtois, and of the Divine women of Iranian and Germanic myths bringing the chosen warrior to the army of the God King of Light, of the Diana of the lake of Nemi who was the Divine spouse of the hero who became her King and chief Priest through prowess in combat, of Dante's Beatrix, etc. As such, the initiation into the ranks of the Adeptus or Legiones Astartes is the initiation into the Mysteries of Astartes. Just finished reading the actual book and man are there some amazing bits of lore in there. Really hope you do a spoiler review as there so many bits I'd like to hear your take on, in particular the conversation between Valdor and Malcador near the end.
If she was so good at gene manipulation ....who created the custodians and thunder warriors? they wernt named after her and one is less stable where the other is far superior, also, naming a whole male force after a female god of war ..... and having them each hold that title ..... when the emperor in the end disliked her? at least this means there could be a whole other force of legiones daves somewhere in the time before unification if thats how legions are named.
For the love of the Emperor, this was far more information on the thunder warriors then I expected. I was thinking we’d get some pre or possibly post heresy information. This was...a lot to take in.

Part of the reason, is thanks to Darksiders new game, where an angel called Astarte appears in it; and gets killed. But also, I just want to hear and learn more about her. The book mentions several times how Valdor believes the "Generals" or "Primogenitors" for these new soldiers were lost until Malcador tells him Big E looked into the void and sensed them so yea theres definitely only 20 Primarchs. Also, how I read this is that Astartes grew the initial SM batches in vats and the vials were the beginning incubators which is what they salvaged so Valdor could quite literally feel a heart (or hearts) beat but its never really clear on that in the book. Absolutely AMAZING book packed full of lore especially for only 200 pages.
Is he breaking confidence? I don't think so. This is almost current events. As he said, much of the information is already captured in after-action reports, all of which are available to those with sufficient clearance. Much of this is more like a personal-perspective piece. Look at the timeline. The primarchs have not been recovered. Mars is still Independent. Probably the moon too. Hell, they still haven't finished unifying earth. The Thunder Warriors went missing only a few months ago, and so far only one astarties Legion has taken the field. None of this is tippy top secret. I would even bet that many of the more general details were common knowledge.
So is this canon? Valdor describes the scattering of the primarchs as an act from chaos, as it had always been. Yet I’ve been told that was retconned to be an act from perpetual erda.
Ideally, I (and I am sure I am not alone...) would LOVE to see a real Movie, or two, or three.... lol... Dealing the Heresy.... as long as a good team get ahold of it... There are several efforts out there that are a kick in the britches! But nothing of real length.... Yet....

So what if the emperor massacred his thunder warriors this is the era of mad max 40k get off ur moral high horse. In the emperors defense I believe he did it out of mercy for his loyal thunder warriors after all they were mentally and physically unstable better to grant them a quick death than to continue to suffer the negative effects of their primitive augmentation. Ask your self this if the emperor didn’t care in any way why does the history of Terran unification honor the thunder warriors who they claim all died in the final glorious battle of unification upon Mt Ararat making them a symbol of reverence instead of the terror they were. The emperor could have easily claimed that due to their madness and instability the thunder warriors rebelled and where put down by the Custodies. A lesson to anyone who would betray the emperor.
