I got new axles from Amazon $90 each. Look and seem exactly like the OEM!! 19mm hex socket $14 had to get steering knuckle drift kit $32 to get the shoulder bolt out. THAT was a nightmare so $250 total for both axles!
😊Very helpful reference for Axle work on the Macan. So much easier to remove the top ball joints than messing with the heat shields to get the axle out. Thanks for recording and posting.
@@hansgarage1751 the nut was easy the bolt has no torque just straight through but I cannot get it off! Air hammer, torche etc. I can only get it maybe 1/2 out
I think that is correct. Here's a quote from Google "Triple square drives are used in high torque applications, such as cylinder head bolts and drive train components. Triple square fasteners are commonly found on German vehicles such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Volkswagen."
Thanks… Good video. There are more similarities between the Audi Q5/SQ5 B8 and the 2016 Macan, than it would be between the Macan and the Cayenne. You probably find a lot of videos related to Audi Q5/SQ5 out there. Most likely axle shaft are exactly the same between Macan and Q5/SQ5 B8. For example: th-cam.com/video/x5_z5VHTWL0/w-d-xo.html Also, for center bolt, always use a new one because is torqued to yield. The torque is actually 200Nm (148 lb-ft) + 180 degrees final tightening. Got those specs from manual. You can watch my bearing replacement videos… I used a torque multiplier wrench: Front Wheels Bearing Replacement - 2015 Porsche Macan S th-cam.com/video/-XET44VyRRE/w-d-xo.html
Great video, some money saved vs dealer cost, all good!

@@davisvargas569 unfortunately no. That Macan left with my x wife.

That's a smoking deal!
You explained a lot better than most of the techs on the YT
Thanks!
Great video, saving money, doing hands on and learning while you do it makes having great cars ...even better.
Very true! Thanks for watching!

Glad it helped!
Right on the money 🤌
Shoulder bolt is a nighmare to get out! Used an air hammer and had to heat the bracket to help loosen
The torque spec is ridiculous.

thanks. good video
Thanks Peter!
Appreciate your diy videos on the Macan as not many videos out there exist. 🏆
Thanks! We'll add more each time we repair.
what is the correct term used for those 'triple square bolts'?

triple square is the corre3ct term but some call them 12 point!
My boot just split too, great video!
Thanks Samm!
I just had my axle ruined by a dodgy cv boot replacement. I think i'm better replacing entire drive shaft
That's unfortunate.
