- Students and parents at a Rockland County middle school sounded the alarm over a lunch menu item this week. As CBS2's Alecia Reid reports, a racially insensitive meal was served on the first day of Black History Month.
These kids nowadays wouldn't survive 5 seconds in a MW2 game chat lobby.

Do these kids *not want* chicken and waffles and watermelon? You know what I got for lunch at school ten to fifteen years ago? Seasoned slop that used to be frozen on a styrofoam tray with a bag of Frito chips, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a fruit cup, OR a soggy chicken sandwich on Fridays. Yeah, that was an OR, you chose one of those options. I'd have killed for chicken and waffles with watermelon. God damn these kids are coddled.

That meal is served at southern public schools every other week no matter what the skin color of the child is.
Watermelon is grown on sandy soil in the South. Cornbread was made in the South during the Civil War, because wheat wasn't available, so corn was used. Everyone in the South eats cornbread now regardless of skin color. Fried chicken is popular in the South regardless of skin color.
The waffles and collard greens with it are more traditional for black families in the South. And it's not a meal that stopped being available just because the Civil War ended.
Biscuits instead of dinner rolls are also a Southern tradition. Iced tea rather than hot tea is southern too.
This story would not be news in a southern state. Philly cheesesteak is a northern sandwich coming from Philadelphia. It's rare to see that sandwich in the South.
So it seems to me that Northerners are offended by Southerners' meals.

2)There was a different meal originally scheduled for this date
3)The new meal was served on the first day of black history month

I can remember about five years back a lot of people were complaining about my companies June teen break time celebration were watermelon was served, they were saying that it was racist and a bunch of BS, I had to inform them that 25 years ago a lady which still worked there which was African-American came up with the idea because in Texas it is hotter than hell in June and she thought it would be nice to serve cold watermelon plus she loved it and everybody else agreed we all thought it was a great idea I left the company for a little while came back and I was surprised by the youngsters responses I guess they didn’t know the history of the company celebration

Sensitivity training is one of the greatest lies of my lifetime. If someone needs training to realize they shouldn’t make racist jokes and pranks at work they shouldn’t be working there

Can someone please explain to me how food is now racially insensitive? It's food. People will do anything for their 5 minutes of fame. People of all colors eat chicken, waffles, and watermelon. Apparently, it's only a northern thing to be offended because those 3 items are staples of southern eating.
