During the year 2000, WCW put Sting and Vampiro together in a tag team known as "The Brothers in Paint". This team was put together just before the Vince Russo WCW reboot, and after the landscape of WCW changed with the introduction of The New Blood, Vampiro turned on Sting and the two would begin a rivalry. Sting vs Vampiro took place on WCW Nitro, at WCW Spring Stampede 2000, WCW Slamboree 2000 and WCW Great American Bash 2000, and this video takes a look at every match of the feud. The Human Torch match and the House of Pain matches are included. With this amount of matches between the two, and with Vince Russo's desire to push up and coming WCW stars while trying to negate guys like Hulk Hogan, Sid and Kevin Nash, it's surprising to find out that Sting was pretty much dominant throughout the feud. Many remember the Human Torch match, but elsewhere, Sting always had the upper hand.

Watched Sting all throughout my childhood, the guy never hit a splash outside the ring. He took the guardrail to the ribs every. single. time.

This was one of the most bizarre feuds I remember.

Why would he hit one? It would be a dangerous move. To do it safely, would make it look really terrible
Vampiro was so underrated. His feud with Sting was one of the few good things WCW had going for it in 2000.
Yet their matches were pure garbage.....If there were 2 people who should have never had any matches together its Sting and Vampiro. Everyone from WCW around that time said so and, even Sting himself has said they were terrible matches because they really had no chemistry.

These videos, this entire channel, gives me such a deeper appreciation for the things I witnessed in my childhood. I'm 30 now, so I was literally just a kid when this was all going down, but to reflect on it all these years later is such a wonderful dopamine hit of nostalgia. Can you imagine if Vampiro had debuted in WWF under Gangrel's Brood with Edge and Christian? Always felt that he could have been way bigger if he'd been handled well, just needed the right place and the right time with the right story.

I think they pulled the trigger too early with Vampiro turning on Sting. I think it needed to go on a longer like Sting mentoring Vampiro to his dark ways and how to get to the next level and maybe help with his promo skills. When Vampiro would turn on Sting it could show that Vampiro was the future and learnt all he could from Sting and to put him down and show Sting had gone soft and was no longer WCW's saviour.
I also dont think those two needed to be in the New Blood v Millionaires Club feud they should of been separate from that angle full with mind games from one another trying to get into each others heads. Id also have Vampiro go over clean which would benefit him greatly.

Vampiro was over as a face before the reboot, he should have been pushed and won the US title and then eventually the Heavyweight title, he got loud pops.
I absolutely agree. I remember thinking it was all kind of sudden. The best way to split partners I feel is to plant the seed that it’s gonna happen and turn it into a slow burn. Honestly, it’s what I feel will happen with Sting and Darby in AEW.

Seriously? I was at a few of the events during this, vampiro had zero mic skills, kept calling sting , Steve, and sting was promoted but never showed at atleast 3 of these dates, yes live events. If memory serves it was richmond va, Norfolk va, Roanoke va, or something like that. But it was heavily pre taped. Cause vampiro couldn't cut it live on the promos.
To win a house of pain match you have to rap Jump Around perfectly word for word.
Regarding Sting being protective of the face paint. ICP also mentioned in a shoot interview for Kayfabe Commentaries that Sting apparently said to them that he had trademarked the facepaint, and their look was gimmick infingement. To which they apparently replied that they hope his trademark goes all the way back to about 1991 when they started performing with that look.
And you don’t know if that’s true or not besides them everyone says sting was a super nice guy in wcw and he never left for wwf
@@tylerdalton6940 I never said it was anything more than what ICP claimed in an interview. Although it does to an extent corroborate what Vampiro claimed about Sting taking issue with his face paint.
Sting also has gone on record that he was drinking heavily and using pain pills during that period. Not just in the run up to Starrcade 97, but throughout most of the tail end of his WCW run. So he may not have been the easiest to deal with depending on his mood that day.

I wish Vampiro wasn't fighting so many demons around this time. He could've had a fantastic program with Sting and his future pretty much set. He was amazing in Mexico.
Eh, according to Sting they had no chemistry and Vampiro has quite the reputation as a fraud and an overall douche so I can only imagine it wouldn't have worked out anyway.

I loved this feud. But they could've done more with The Great Muta like a side feud with someone who decided to join Sting in the fight.

My primary memory of this feud was Sting being covered in ''blood' and then wrestling two nights later on Thunder still covered in it.
Let's give Vamp some credit. I'm sure he was dealing with 15 broken bones, amnesia, alzheimers, and torn ACL. Also heard he saved 4 dogs from a burning building around this time, while curing cancer and AIDS.

I just found my WCW Vampiro action figure the other day. He's a pretty awesome action figure. One of the few WCW figures I still had.
This was the only rivalry in WCW 2000 that was good.

Yeah by like 2004 is slowly declined, by 2010, it became unwatchable for me. So I stopped watching, tried watching again in like 2013, seeing pee wee Herman and grumpy cat hosting raw, so I didn’t watch, been watching again for about 8 months, but only AEW here and there, wwe i have completely written off,

Got so bored of WWE, I quit watching over a decade ago, pushing wrestlers who suck, storylines that had no hype, crushing great talent coz they couldn't talk on promo's or fit Vince's model of an ideal body. That's why, wCw, ECW, RoH, NJPW, will never be "Abysmal" in my memories, they promoted wrestlers who could wrestle, it was backstage B.S. that ruined what could of been ...
I remember there was also a moment when Terry Funk and Vampiro went out of the ring, on the street near the truck and Vampiro wanted to set Terry Funk on fire, but Sting appeared and prevented it.

I really liked this rivalry. Didn't expect Wrestling Bios to do a video about it so quick as it was a rivalry that took place near WCW's end.

@@kingragnar8023 What I actually meant when I said "quick" was, that I thought Wrestling Bios would do videos about rivalries involving Sting that took place before this rivalry.
Like Sting vs Daimond Dallas Page, Sting vs Goldberg, Sting vs Kevin Nash, Sting vs Scott Hall, Sting vs Randy Savage, Sting vs Sid Vicious.
All those rivalries took place before "Sting vs Vampiro".
I thought a video about Sting vs Vampiro would be made by Wrestling Bios later on, due to the fact that "Sting vs Vampiro" was Sting's last important rivalry in WCW as WCW was about to close it's doors in March 2001.
That picture with Vampiro backstage with the Misfits and Doyle is standing right behind Vampiro with that matching face paint it looks awesome

Remarkable video! The rivalry between Sting vs Vampiro we're legendary. RIP WCW
They should have had both Sting and Vampiro become the WCW Tag Team Champions as The Brothers In Paint and then eventually have them fued against each other . I think that would have definitely given them considerably more time to develop much better chemistry together in the build up to them facing each other in a series of matches. If they had done this than the overall quality of their various wrestling bouts would have been immensely better than it actually turned out.

I think that Vampiro would definitely be better suited for the WWF during the Attitude Era. He could either be an apprentice studying under the sinister eyes of The Undertaker & the Ministry of Darkness or perhaps he could turn against Taker and have the two square off in Wrestlemania 15 or any other PPVs at the time. Maybe he could be part of a tag team/rivalry between him and Gangrel.
Being undertaker's son would have been an interesting angle I think

It was okay. The heel really needs to gain some credibility early in the feud though so they're seen as a proper threat. Sting really didn't give Vampiro much.

Vampiro had a hard time on the mic because he did promos in Mexico for so long his cadence was a bit off.
Yeah is like Andrade where they are so used to cutting promos on Spanish once they start cutting promos in English it feels very off would of worked if Vampiro had a manger doing the talking honestly.

After watching so many of your vids.. Now and then, there are matches that change a persons place within wrestling.. and at times.. it doesn't even have to envolve them (Lex Lugger getting boo'ed and then WWF moving over to Brett and Brett didn't need to be in the ring)
There is a lot of luck when it comes to certain peoples runs or squashes and it would be interesting to see who got on top or missed it due to XXX reasons..
It might be something to run after your 101 projects you have at the moment and worth jotting down for a later date..
Also.. As you're still well in to the WCW v WWF/E.. You can clock the ones from now on to use later.

Vampire is very underrated in my opinion
Sting is very VERY highly overrated...He was never all that good, hell his best run he was bootlegging The Crow and didn't speak a word or have real matches for something like 9 months. His in ring skills aren't that spectacular either, however if you put him with someone he "trusted" they could make him look like a million bucks

@@lutherheggs451 Yeah, Sting was all gimmick from 96-2000. I'd struggle to come up with even 5 good matches he had in that time. His in-ring work was solid once he returned to TNA in good shape (and with a tan brother!)

The memories of 2000, this was my Era of WCW
Sting really phoned it in for the last 2 years in WCW. He was just collecting a paycheck. He was so much better when he returned to TNA in 2006. He looked in much better shape, was moving around better and having good matches with everyone.

loved this fued as a kid, i have a vivid memory of watching a backstage brawl with these two where someone throws an axe into a cubicle door lol
I haven't seen the episode in a long time but I think the feud actually started during the spring break episode of Nitro! Sting and Vampiro won, Both with Sting pinning Luger at the beach while Vampiro simultaneously pinned Flair back in the ring. They played Stings music and announced Sting had gotten the pin fall and I remember Vampiro looking pissed or jealous that he wasn't the winner for their team, pretty sure it started there.

@@maodijong3661 Ultimately Sting was still the icon and I wouldn't have put Vampiro over at the end of the feud, but Christ, give him something and let him build some credibility and some heat with Sting before you put them in a program tagging or feuding lol. I dont personally believe being part of a stable with ICP gave Vampiro much credibility

Good video. Presented very well. My only problem with this feud really is the lack of victories for Vampiro. I had grown up a huge fan of Sting and was becoming a huge fan of Vampiro's so having a well established guy like Sting push Vampiro more would have done wonders, WCW dropped the ball on this one.

Pretty hypocritical for Sting to have an issue with the dark image and face paint. Especially when he borrowed his white face paint and black leather trenchcoat gimmick from the movie The Crow.

Sting, muta, and vampiro should have started a stable called the birds of prey or maybe the vultures. They could have feuded with DDP, bam bam, and kanyon. That would have been cool to watch
Great retrospect of the rivalry. There was solid potential but it just wasn't to be and just became an utter mess in the end. Also interesting mix with I'll Stick Around by Foo Fighters and Sting's Crow entrance theme.
The vampiro/kidman feud was really good.

Russo recycled so much of the stuff he did in the WWF. Like with Bischoff, he only had a few good ideas and would reuse them over and over.

I always thought it was one of the more underrated rivalries.
The reasons I remember this rivalry.
1. Since June 6. 1998, it was the only wCw Nitro my VHS + Cable TV failed me.
2. Missed all the 1hr replay after "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" ran 1hr over.
3. Had a guy who's sister worked for GTV9 and stole the master back-up VHS
Even as a Die-hard Stinger Fan, I feel like Vampiro should've won more matches for credibility and building..

That feud in IWA Puerto Rico, I was just 5, but every Saturday 1pm on Telemundo, tuning in.
I was watching WCW at the time, and I got to say this felt like this fued was below Sting at the time. Vampiro did not seem like he was on Stings level at all. The fued became quite boring quickly
I liked this feud especially the whole Vampiro capturing the crow and was going to eat it until Sting showed up was just awesome

Who ever said he didn't? Also, it's not like it should be seen in poor taste to continue doing it. Unlike the WWF, WCW always performed this stunt safely with qualified riggers.
