Also, I love how the guy at the end is sneakily measuring panel gaps at hood :) I remember Winterkorn saying in the ATZ magazine half a year ago "From all the Asian companies, Hyundai is the one that will give us headache." The fact that the bosses of VW are measuring the blind spots of a Hyundai BEFORE it hits the market says a lot about their attitude: "Know what is coming for you and try to beat them with your new model"

Hyundai is one of the best cars (for its price) since 1996. People just don't get it still. (E)lantra in 1996 had better serial equipment than top equipment in some other German cars, which was 50% more expencive (and less equipped). Plus Hyundai was fun to drive and cheap to maintain.
@Tabbo107 That's not what I meant. It was still engineered by Koreans. Things can be made anywhere, even in Germany...but it is still a South Korean company with South Korean engineers. That's why Hyundai invests in Europe too...as wel as USA ;-)
I think it's a very nice car, finally Hyundai is grown up! Way to go Hyundai! Together with Kia they are the only car brands that give 5 & &(!!!) years of guarantee, VW doesn't dare that, or whether other "big" carbrand. That's trust in your own brand imo...!

It is not because of quality reason.There are so many creative Korean car designers and engineers but the reason why Hyundai headquarter decided to design in Europe is i30 has specially and mainly been made for european market.Therefore they thought european designer would know and understand exactly what people in the land want to have in their car. That's it!

Aber gehts eben um die Lenkradverstellung und nicht um die vielen anderen Aspekte (denn auch da ist Hyundai besser) Und während Hyundai und Kia ihre Qualität auch garantieren - nämlich mit 5 bzw. 7 Jahren Garantie, so möchte VW lieber keine Garantie auf seine Qualität geben. DAS ist auch eine Form von Qualität

pretty impressive. Pretty sure both CEOs love cars. It will be a battle in the near future or the battle is already going on. As a hyundai owner, azera, I still love my car after more than 5 years. VW is my second favorite anyway.
For someone who paid such close attention to details to entry level of competitor's new product, it couldn't be him who approved shoddy TDI cheat for 11 million cars. Someone else in VW must have screwed up and Winterkorn is shouldering the blame.
He is very detail-oriented but also does not tolerate failure, so he relied heavily on applying massive pressure and instilling fear into his employees, which may have been the motivation for certain employees to go rogue. Also VW does not have the standard management system that corporations have. Winterkorn was CEO, so was in charge of executive board, but the supervisory board, above the CEO, had a few politicians from the area in Wolfsburg where VW is based. They let Winterkorn do whatever he felt was needed in order to make VW the world's biggest carmaker, so the system of checks and balances was destroyed. Piech even tried to oust Winterkorn this year but failed because he had no support, and he had to quit as Chairman. A very complex issue to say the least.
He was the boss, it happened under his watch. He therefore is responsible.. He actually sounds like a typical tyrant, happy to take the credit himself when things go well, but quick to apportion blame to others when it goes wrong.

The reason why i30 is produced in Czech in Europe is actually cheaper than making it in Korea.I think the wage in Czech is cheaper than in Korea and the Czech government is desperate to have money from foreign company and they really willing to give the foreign company heaps of tax cut & benefits and also they want to reduce cut down the rate of people in work pause. They need to thank to Hyundai as it is giving away the opportunities to work.

Looks like a mad bro... but I do give him props that he actually looks at competition. The way I see VW now is they all start to fall apart in 3-5 years, major electrical problems on my last one; I moved on to other makers.

The reason why Hyundai headquarter in Korea decided to give an precious opportunity to work with them to european designers & engineers is not a purpose of quality, now that i30 has made for european market and the company thought they would have more understanding of what people in land want to have in their car even though there are so many quality designers & engineers.That is it!
I worked for VW a very long time and I can tell you that Winterkorn was the most feared boss they EVER had. Everybody was sweating blood when they were about to present something in front of him. He was obsessed with perfection. A typical cliché German in all aspects. How he could allow this Diesel fuck up to happen is beyond me.

The lever for the steering wheel release makes no sound while moving, BMW can't do it, they can't do it, then he starts with Chevron or, what I think, Chevrolet but aborts. Then he says you cant see wipers no more. They start measuring A-Pillar blind spot from drivers view. I think then they start talking about where the outlets for the air have to work, not sure, I think I heard "Norddeutschland" and "Matschiko" which should be Mexico, does that make any sense?
@@funklover24 yup, that was a big risk he took. But Kia was sued in Japan for the same thing 😅. So everyone does it, but they always get caught. It's legal to have a defeat device in Europe but not in other countries.

That pen-like device might be a paint thickness gauge. Thicker paint is more durable, but also more costly.

And now 10 years later, I'd argue they are market leaders. Reviewers prize Hyundai-Kia like no other!

I worked for VW a very long time and I can tell you that Winterkorn was the most feared boss they EVER had. Everybody was sweating blood when they were about to present something in front of him. He was obsessed with perfection. A typical cliché German in all aspects. How he could allow this Diesel fuck up to happen is beyond me.
