@@nonyabuiz2023 there was a time I thought Indie production with professional grade production tools were possible, and it had been for a while, and now it is back to the big boys again, in the past, the Hollywood magic can only be produced by ILM, and so on, because the technologies were not available for us, and now the technologies are very available for us, just gated from us, so ironic... oh well, back to open source again I guess...

As a perpetual licence owner I'm very glad the new features are just... meh. I just can't afford the insane price of that "upgrade", that is practically buying it again. I will stay in 2022 many years, and maybe start to use blender in the future.

Trust me you won't regret switching to Blender. I switched from Cinema til Blender and haven't looked back since. With all the new fundings I believe Blender has a bright future ahead.

@@pawnswizard1 It's an amazing tool, but it's stupidity to compare it with Z-Brush. Blender's developers are incredible programmers but there are no professionals who think about the user experience. Otherwise all other 3D applications would have no chance.

So sad, I really would have loved to use the new tools BUT they aren't getting my money like this. This is the wrong direction for ZBrush and terrible for anyone who isn't working at a studio. What is crazy is it's the Freelancers and Indies that could benefit from the new tools more than the studios.

That insane price is to once again drive you to the cheaper and apparently more feature rich yearly subscription. What sucks is that if you dont continue the subscription you can keep the latest version. Its unfortunate for sure but man 2022 is so powerful that they have to do something literally world breaking to get anyone who is not in the industry to upgrade. Like A full texturing suite with retopo and uv tools like 3d coat, rigging and animation else I'm CHILLING with 2022 lol

Hey, im a PROUD Pirate lol. im out here hunting my One Piece as we speak! how absolutely Sad is it that ADOBE and AUTODESK ARE BETTER COMPANIES THAN MAXON! Autodesk has "Indie" prices for 3DS Max and Maya, and Adobe allows you to buy all the Substance programs on Steam! if Maxon came up with "Zbrush Indie" or "indie/hobby" Pricing for Zbrush, people would like them so much more. but instead they REALLY Waved a $660 price at us in 2023, and didn't expect anyone to laugh or tell them to Eat Ass. it's kinda hilarious when you think about it. how a Big ass Company like Maxon could be so Blind and Tone Deaf.
Same thing was with me asking if Redshift can render fiber mesh - Ian was literally asking Louie "are there any questions?" and he looked straight at the chat where I and others asked multiple times questions saying "no questions, people are just excited". Not going to lie, I took it bit personal. I understand they have to now dance to the music played by Maxon, but that was so infuriating and low. Some North Korea marketing right there :D "No, everybody are happy, proceed!" :D Just stupid.

Dude, if you wanna know the TRUTH? they probably got you Shadow banned. they banned me back when they first SOLD OUT to Maxon. i noticed something was up when i was talking to my actual friend Shane Olson on the Chat, and he was ignoring me. i was like, wtf...he never ignores me. he literally talks to me ANY TIME i message him. i message him via Discord all the time and we talk about random shit. so i asked my brother to watch the TH-cam Stream and sure enough everything i said was being blocked. not even shown. so eventually i made this new account and made sure not to say anything "Negative" to get myself banned, cause i gotta be able to ask questions while the streamers are on, or i don't learn anything. but its very VERY Possible that they banned you.
I'm glad I moved in time to other free app a couple of years ago when i moved out of the studio I was working at, since i didn't had the muna to buy i forced myself to learn an alternative app to keep sculpting, and now more than never I'm so glad I did. I feel sorry for the many funny years i had with Zbrush but hey, it was good while it lasted. in no way shape or form ill support Maxon's prices they are a subsidiary of adobe at this point.
any suggestion on new cheap or free sculpting software? I am using 3d coat and nomad sculpt(on ipad for this one), and do have blender installed, just curious what other legit choice we can have...

Zbrush may be worth that money in full if one is to purchase it for the first time, but not this upgrade. in this terms.

I will stick to 2021/2022 until zbrush has new features that is totally necessary and make life a lot easier. For now version 2021 is more than enough for me.
$150 per year is what I suggested to Pixo and this is what comes back. I guess I’m going to seriously be looking into blender, 3DCoat and Nomad.

I need to give 3d coat another go. They have an unlimited time learning trial (with some limitations)
3D Coat is AMAZING once you give it enough time to learn it. its still not as good as Zbrush for Sculpting. Currently. but it's getting there. if more people keep buying it, i believe in my heart it will become BETTER than Zbrush, now that Maxon is Sucking all the life out of it.

You just knew that Zbrush was doomed in the moment that it was announced that Maxon purchased them.
The only thing thats important for Maxon is to squeeze as much money out of the customers for the smallest amount of new features. That goes for Cinema, Redshift, Zbrush, Red Giant etc.
What was the purpose of buying these individual companies? The only reason was the greed of the management and businessmen that has infested the company. They dont care about 3d modeling or art at all. They could just as well sell paperclips or orange juice. It doesnt matter. Only profit does.
The short termed purpose of buying the companies was simply to be able to sell them to a bigger corporation in a short time to get the fast profit. NOTHING else. And that was what happened in November last year.
Furthermore what I don't get is the acceptance by the authorities of these purchases by Maxon. Maxon is now having monopolistic market power and that is illegal.
Trust me you can now count down to the shutdown of Zbrush perpetual license so you are in a never ending spending trap and owned by Maxon.
Maxon will do just as they did with Cinema 4d namely begin to offer things in the subscription version that you dont get in the perpetual trying to force people over on subscription.
Oh, and now we know why the have removed the possibility to use the Keyshot bridge and use Keyshot as a render. We have to buy Redshift instead. Top customer service.

I agree with most of what you said. The FAQ states "ZBrush users no longer need a separate bridge to use Keyshot with ZBrush. Simply acquire a Keyshot license from Luxion. The Keyshot integration is already installed with ZBrush and no longer requires a separate license. Additional ZBrush assets that can be used with the Keyshot integration are also available from Luxion."
@@AlHowell Yes but the cheap option for Zbrush users is gone. With that it was possible to render without breaking the bank. In the Keyshot forum there were a lot complaining about it. You have to purchase the full Keyshot version... oh I mean subscribe ;-).

There are more options, including commercial ones, for sculpting that are more budget friendly (including upgrade paths).

@@Hanschr1313 Yes indeed, i have that too, it's very nice software. Completely different GUI (more sane even).. but somehow the zbrush brushes feel more fluid/smooth overall (no matter is doing surface mode or voxel)

Any guess how many perpetual licenses were sold world wide before maxon took over? I am guessing 200,000 copies. If half of this number pay an annual upgrade fee of $100, that is a solid 10 million dollar just for the annual upgrade. But nope, they decided to charge $695 instead. I am guessing only the big studio, or influencer that has to keep up to date for the video content would upgrade or turned to subscription.

Atleast Adobe listen to us, they offered us to still be able to buy Substance programs on Steam.... and they even added Stager, Sampler, and now Modeler to Steam... and they offer a discount, they dont force us to rebuy it.....
I love Adobe at lease their price is reasonable I rent the entire Adobe suite for only $43.00 per month a great deal

Their price is as if its a new application. They should at least give us old timers a discount. $659 was about what I payed before for the app. At least its not like Autodesk's where you have to pay over 1000..

It's a terrible truth because I already got a lic of zbruah long time ago lol but im redoing the lic for simply the dynamic mirror symmetry in zbrush!
you can clearly see they were nervous as heck! but whats happening is a alot are going to subscription so that it can be more readily available but also so they get a few dollars more too! this is why you should definitely have more apps you know you can use free or for a much lower cost to you!

As a correction.. i'm pretty sure they meant to say.. (you should check to be sure) it will only come with the CPU version maybe? and if you want GPU you buy Redshift? ... Thats how it works with subs..for example..
The FAQ seems pretty clear to me. "1. Purchase a perpetual license upgrade for approximately $659 per local currency. This will include the new ZBrush features but will not include Redshift. However, you can subscribe to Redshift separately." A Zbrush Subscription seems to give you redshift cpu and I think Maxon One gives you GPU

I can see $200 or perhaps $250 to upgrade from 2022 to 2023 but $659 is ridiculous. 3DCoat is starting to look better as it closes the gap. If it can develop the same level of features that say 2021 or 2022 ZBrush might lose its hold on the industry.
Would happily pay $100 to Pixologic for upgrade but why they never ask, if they were in financial problem. I am quite sure many will pay if Pixologic had ask for it.

Man-things started to make harder for curators and sculptures not really a good move for zbrush besides I can't usually use blender because it's really harder then zbrush but I do like blender because they make animation it's supposed to be free as I know of tell me if I'm wrong this is when zebras started to lose supporters how much does a rent cost to rent it ?

Maxon is a European company so I presume that it why. You can get a perpetual license
@@AlHowell good to know. but my next concern is that it is not available for Hong Kong as I don't see the option for paying in my city currency and when I hooped to the China side, I didn't find the perpetual option... do you think it is possible for me to pay in Euro and still be able to buy the perpetual license?? Thats also the end of the road for me with ZBrush. This cheap argument, that you have the newest version if you subscribe. Does everyone really needs the newest version always? imagine, you are forced everywhere to subscribe on your pipeline. How many hundrets of dollars you pay per month? Later, if subscribtion is forced, the updates gets worse and worse ... why? Cause you are already forced to pay. On perpetual, they have to do really good stuf, so you would buy the upgrade.
good thing zbrush got so fleshed out to its latest version prior to 2023. god knows it wont be worth the upgrade for a long time to come. It will be like 3ds max, die a slow death and be forced to catch up to the industry. 5 or 10 years later down the road. Pixo team did a great job, they could of tried harder with their monetary options, but to sell out to a corporation is a sad end to such an amazing chapter.

I would happily pay $100 to pixologic for major version upgrade. It was clearly stated that the free upgrade is 1 year, yet they allowed free upgrade for so many years in beyond generous and nearly unbelievable. Now is too late 😢

Drink up me mates yahoo :). Greed of Maxon is insane, I don't have anything against subscription model, but made it affordable for general populous, make it 15 bucks a month and I will gladly pay. And new features even thou not ground braking are good. And remember that is hard to drastically improve already great application such as Zbrush. Blender is a great option as well :)

Subs are greed I refuse to pay for subs for any software, period it costs to much at the end of the day and you lose access if you stop paying... yeah, they're incentivising subscriptions already, too bad that 2023 doesn't really have that much that would be worth upgrading for. Redshift? There are plenty of other renderers out there that are more affordable, even on steam, hell, there's UE5, which granted, isn't realtime, but it's _free_. Slime bridge? Interesting and very cool addition, but sadly not enough for that price tag (which is over £500, and i can't afford that on top of a maya indie resub and my vpn resub coming this year, which will be about £600-ish in total)
I just hope they don't increase the price if you skip a version (I know Foundry and Autodesk used to do that). And on the subject of Autodesk, Mudbox is actually cheaper than Zbrush, sure it's not really being developed anymore (all that was added to the most recent versions was linux support), but hopefully, Autodesk will see some boost in customers using mudbox and finally start developing it again.

The terrible truth is gotta license it if it's true use. Redshift is irrelevant if game development. Repaying for the perpetual lic isn't a big deal now that's it under new parent company. Iv looked through all the required software and I have come to the conclusion that the zbruah and affinity photo lic is all that's needed with unreal game pipeline. It's not all that horrible.
Zbrush is already crazy overpriced. Granted this isnt my day job but i dont see why anyone would pay for zbrush when blender is free.

I'm done supporting sub-only software (which is where this is going), and greedy companies who don't care about innovation. I'm done with all of it, until my puny human existence is over. Affinity Photo ftw. And Zbrush 2022 is great. Don't need no slime tool. Don't need no Redshift. Don't need no Zremesher redo.

Zbrush is dead
What gets me is this is a big FU to all those users that don't use it every day (hobbies like me). You either shell out full price every year for the latest upgrade, or buy into the subscription, in which you might not use it all the time. Looks like it's time to raise the jolly roger if you want the new features. I don't condone bootlegging; I am just saying that might be the only alternative way that people with low income can get it. I am sticking with. zbrush 2022.07
