  • These clocks seem quite popular, so I thought I'd make a video showing how to set the time and alarm functions on them.
    I've got another video where I take this one completely apart. The circuitry is very interesting.
    You can find that video here:- • Inside a large "3D" di...
    If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
    www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm
    This also keeps the channel independent of TH-cam's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

    At first I'm thinking this is Clive being cynical and the clock is going to bug out at some point in the programming. After a short time, I realize: "I'm gonna watch Clive set a clock I'll probably never use, and like it" :)

      DECADES ago I had a GE alarm clock radio with a keypad that allowed you to set the time and radio station by punching in the numbers. Of course it was also UL listed and came with a professionally produced instruction manual written in grammatically correct English. Presumably one could also purchase a service manual for it and replacement parts. Fast forward to the present (minus three years and counting) and this is what qualifies as a spiffy clock. Dreadful.

  • @richfiles
    @richfiles 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have a slightly different model of this. The digits have a slight slant, which looks nice. It has a PM, Alarm, and Temp LED. It now supports three alarms. It will show date and temperature either on an automatic cycle, manually cycled, or temporarily with a button press. Manual says that it has a power saving "voice control" mode, that when activated, shows the time for 15 seconds if sound goes over 75dB. Unfortunately, manual brightness controls, and the option to change the time of auto night time dimming appear to have been sacrificed to make way for the extra alarms and the voice control mode. It appears to be fixed at dimming at 7PM, and brightening at 6AM, and it's only daytime brightness setting appears to be "lighthouse beacon".

      Gary Rumain - Ah, ok... Well, I confess, I'm not an electrician by trade, I'm a musician, but like the clock. Just thought if I could stick a battery pack in it to power it up instead of the USB, like I said in my original comment... I'll prolly just stick to the USB going to a wall outlet with the appropriate plug thing, you know...
      Thanks though... :)

      @@DaveLennonCopeland Well, you can also get a USB power bank. I would think that would be the logical choice since they have USB ports and output 5V. Which can also be recharged. Simpler than using batteries.

    I just got one that is exactly like yours -- but not. It also has a temperature mode (Celsius only, alas), and the night-time dimming time range is preset and can't be changed. Also, unfortunately, the power plug slot is too small to allow the plug head to tuck down all the way. And, like yours., mine is about 1/60th scale compared to the seller's illustrations.

      I just bought two of these, intending on giving one to my mother to use outside, but since it's only celcius, the temp is useless to her. I understand °C, but she's elderly, and never used it in her life. I wish I could find one of these with °F.

    Hi Big clive. i need a lil help. I have a battery, a 3prong switch, and an led light i made of single 10mm leds. So far as is, everything is fine and dandy. Problem is i have to disconect the battery to charge it everytime. I have a tp4650 w/out protection, that i would like to incorporate. Can you help me with a diagram for this please. I know its easy i just cant get my head around the connection it would be bit easier if i had a 2 prong switch but my wife dosent want anymore gadgets in the house so i have to do with what i have. I would appreciate your help. I changed my profile pic on youtube so you could see the diagram i have so far.

      Betcha how much they just cheapened out of using two diodes to stop the battery being used while you have actual mains power...? Presumably the clock itself runs off that battery _all the time_...

    Big Clive, I'm wondering how accurate the clock is? I hate clocks that don't have time sync so they drift off and give the wrong time after a few weeks. I have two on clocks on my desk right now and I average the difference between them to get the right time!!! LOL.

    • @tncorgi92

      I've got a similar clock, uses that single 32768KHz oscillator. It loses about a minute per month so I'm guessing that this one might do the same.

      That would be an interesting clock...one that picks up wifi and gets the time from a time server. Sounds like an arduino project to convert one of these to 2019.

    • @98dizzard
      @98dizzard 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenMitro doesn't need WiFi, most of the world is covered by atomic clock time signals, just needs a receiver. Alternatively you can get the time with a GPS receiver, just need to set your local offset from GMT.

    • @BenMitro
      @BenMitro 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@98dizzard Didn't know that Daniel thanks. There is no atomic clock signal here in Australia, unless you can receive from a nearby country that does, like Japan, but that is a hit and miss affair. GPS needs to have sky visibility to work (at least here in Australia), so wifi may be the only option for a stationary, indoor clock for us.
