Tyler, I don't think I've ever enjoyed one of your videos more. You seem quite, quite different in this one - quieter, more calm, more thoughtful. And I really value your appreciation of our King and his speech. The Queen's Christmas speeches were always wonderful - they do write them themselves - and hers were always delivered in one take with no autocue. I suspect Charles' are the same. The monarch is Head of the Church of England, hence the religious references. Charles has always been very cognisant of other faiths and shows great respect to all. Thank you for your lovely reaction and I wish you all the very best for 2025.

I had the pleasure to meet Prince Charles many years ago. We sat down and chatted for around 15 minutes. Obviously, he didn't know me from a whole in the wall, yet he was kind, asked questions about my life and listened attentively. He also added some humour into our conversation, which made me much more relaxed in our continued discussions. I will always remember his humour, kind words, great smile, questions and attentiveness. He made me feel as though I mattered during our conversation. It is good to see that his Christmas message this year still reflects who I felt he was many years ago. From my perspective, he is a person who has authenticity and integrity.

The speech is always kept secret until broadcast at 3 pm GMT on Christmas Day by all the UK TV channels, the Royal Family gathering around a TV at Sandringham to watch. One of the benefits of living in a constitutional monarchy (🇨🇦🇦🇺🇬🇧🇧🇻🇧🇪🇩🇰🇪🇦🇳🇿🇸🇪, etc) is that political leaders don't fill our holiday periods with trite, partisan "fake" unifying messages. The Christmas Message has always been written by the Monarch him/her self.

The problem is that the purpose of a constitutional monarchy, namely being a diplomatic figurehead, is at odds with the financial practicality needed to maintain a constitutional monarchy. The only other reason I can think of having one is tradition, but even then that argument has multiple facets to it

This sums up the advantages of a non-political Head of State to represent the best of the country on the world stage. Charles is a genuinely good man: thoughtful, caring and compassionate, as witnessed by the unbelievable good work done by the charity, The Prince's Trust, he created in the 1970s.
Tyler: everything you as an American were *taught* about the British monarchy was wrong - wrong about George III and wrong about pretty much every ruler and/or their consort since then. The first public Lying-in (maternity) hospital was founded by Queen Charlotte after the death of her daughter-in-law in childbirth. The first public figure in the world to apologise for slavery was Prince Albert, the Prince Consort (husband of Queen Victora) in 1840. The British royal family has been concentrating on being a unifying force and promoting family for two centuries - the two exceptions being those who married American divorcees.

Diana had bulimia and mental health issues from childhood, caused by her mother leaving her, yet blamed her condidtion on Charles, she threw tantrums when she wanted her own way and sulked for days when she didn't get it, Charles became desperately unhappy and confided in his best friend Camillla, meanwhile she was cheating with many married men, broke up several marriages, and did a VERY public cheap kiss and tell, (telling much of which has been proven to be lies) regardless of how it affected her sons, and after the divorce, spent her time galavanting around the world with various billionaire playboys, while Charles and Queen Elizabeth had the children. She was desperate for attention and would constantly tip off the press as to where she was going to be, they turned up in Paris and it caused th car accident that she died in. Diana wasn't evil, she had a lot of mental illness, she did some good things for charity, but she was certainly not the saintly angel that some people believe her to be. Charles is guilty of being unhapppy in a marriage with an unstable wife, and going back to his one love. HUNDREDS of people knew and were duped by Saville, you fail to recognise the fact that the royals lead very sheltered lives and Saville took advantage of this innocence like he did others. Charles was and is, an incredibly busy man, any interactions with Saville were booked meetings to discuss charities, they didn't go down the pub! Just because you happen to know someone, be it friend, family or aquaintance, doesn't mean you are privey to their sex life and their deviant proclavities, most people have best friends and close family, but we don't sit there discussing our sex life with them! The press continues to call the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton. I see this as a denegration of her. She is Catherine, Princess of Wales. Informally she may be called Catherine Wales. The Royal family (direct descendents of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip) do not use their surname of Mountbatten Windsor if they hold a title. Their title functions as their surname i.e. Sophie Edinburgh is the Duchess of Edinburgh, wife of Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh, their children Louise and James are entitled to be Princess and Prince but their parents didn't want them to take these titles at the time of their birth. Louise Edinburgh is Lady Louise Mountbatten Windsor and James is Earl of Wessex. A son can use his father's minor title.
All the rubbish about Harry and Megan's son not having a title from birth he was entitled to use his father's minor title of Earl of Dumbarton. Apparently Meghan didn't want him to have it as it has the word dumb in it

Rumours were spread that the murderer was a Muslim immigrants, so these neo Nazi thugs started rioting. In fact, the young man involved had been born in Britain, in Cardiff, Wales and his family came from Rwanda and were Christian. He seems to be mentally disturbed. The local people got together next day to tidy up and repair the broken buildings and the mosque people supplied food for them. It was a very heartening sight. But it had nothing to do with Palestine.

I live in the UK. For many years watching the Queen's speech at christmas was part of every families plans. It's not as popular now, but it's still watched by many millions in all the commonwealth countries.
This one was quite refreshing to be honest. The Queen was dearly loved, but she was clearly struggling at times in her last few years and it kind of showed. There was always cutaway segments showing the Queen at charitable events but once she was into her nineties, they started being more commonly cutaways of other members of the royal family, as she reduced her duties.
To be fair to King Charles III - this one was really well written and thought out, with regard to events in the UK this year. I would guess he has a scriptwriter, but he will have decided what the general theme of the speech would be and informed them of which particular issues he wanted to highlight. Though it pains me a little to say it - he delivered it with more emotion and it sounded more like his own words than the last few that Queen Elizebeth II did.
I'm not a huge royalist, but I usually have a watch of the speech and I can confirm this was one of the best in the last few years.

There is a line in one of the old UK Public Service announcements that is always worth remembering, 'Just because it isn't happening here, doesn't mean that it isn't happening.' Also on Remembrance Sunday all veterans & serving military personnel are honoured, axis & allies alike. All of those that die or are permanently damaged for a country or for a principle would surely have preferred to have lived for the same. Most of Europe was traumatised by two world wars & by the subsequent economic effects. NATO was an agreement that Member states would never again turn against each other & the EC/EEC/EU was the 'Peace through prosperity' initiative that has maintained peace in Europe for longer than at any time in recorded history. Now more than 27 countries are member states & more are waiting in the wings to qualify for membership. Once poorer countries are economically stable thanks to funds made available from more affluent member states & are themselves better placed to make a significant contribution. From each according to their means & to each according to their needs is the maxim while still operating a regulated capitalist system. Balance! Moderation in all things. More people benefit & fewer suffer deprivation. Just as with NATO if one member EU state is threatened the other member states will offer tangible support. Ukraine is not yet an EU member but Putins expansionist ambitions threaten those that are (especially the Baltic & the Nordic nations). Solidarity is the name of the game. The whole of Europe & elsewhere is beefing up their military (even the famously neutral & non EU countries) in case the worst should happen. Another Cold War situation seems to be the best case scenario & I am old enough to remember the last one & the arms race it engendered. Arms manufacturers & dealers will be the only winners. Sigh. I normally sign off with cheers but I am not currently feeling very cheery. Best wishes to all.

We in the UK and the Commonwealth have witnessed an annual speech from our late Queen for most of our lifetimes. She was always thoughtful, positive and speaking about us, the common people. Charles is his own man of course and this was somewhat more religious than I've seen before, but well thought out, well delivered and relevant to all. The role and duty of te monarch and the Royal family is to do good works for the country and commonwealth without EVER commenting on political matters. Charles has been quite ill (we don't know the details, as has Princess Kate. He shares that with us without seeking sympathy but recognising that it is a common experience that 50% of us will share. He doesn't mention that our National health has been starved of funding and resources by our previous government but he does praise and thank those in the NHS for what they do for us all in the most trying of times. He's a good king, and I doubt that a politician could do the same job half as well. That's why we don't want a republic!

Since 1535 in the reign of Henry 8th the Monarch has taken the title of Head of the Church of England ('The Act of Supremacy'). Thus Charles still has a role in promoting Christian values of service, compassion, fellowship, love and tolerance. As Prince of Wales, Charles for several years made it very clear that he intended when King to intwerpret his ancient role of 'Defender of THE Faith' as being one of 'Defender of ALL faiths'. In this way, Charles is concerned to enlarge his inherited role in relation to the Anglican community to encompass 'spiritual' seeking in all traditions across the global Commonwealth. The title 'Defensor Fidei' (Defender of the Faith') was bestowed on Henry VIII by the Pope prior to the split from Rome when Henry wanted his marriage annuled. Henry had written a polemic against Luther!. King Charles in his multi-faith role spends much time visiting mosques, temples, gurdwaras, churches and synagogues to foster community spirit across Britain and the Commonwealth. The Monarch is not expected to comment directly on politics (it is a strong customary taboo,) but his role is to rise above partisan politics in the inmerests of the common good. His duty is to act as a living symbol of national unity. This Royal activity became particularly pronounced in World War II when the family chose to remain in London rather than be transported to the safe haven of Canada. This meant being here during the blitz in 1940. And in the post war period the Royal family - throughout its own family crises - has on the whole still remained alongside the British people as a prevailing symbol of continuity and unity throughout the ups and downs of national life: the economic difficulties, the scandals (including within the Royal family itself), bitter debates over Brexit. the losses of life in the pandemic, Still endures the monarchy.

King Charles is the Head of the Church of England so his message focuses on what Christmas is really about, not Santa Claus and reindeer and shopping! After all, at the end of your life, where do you want to spend Eternity? You have two options. Pick the right one and stick with it. I’ve known King Charles’s sense of humour and personality for most of my life, because he’s been around since I was born. He even lived in Australia for a few years and has been here many times in his life. He was a big fan of The Goons, so was I! He was as quick witted as his Mother, Queen Elizabeth II! He has waited a very long time to take over the role of the King and he’s feeling his age. Just as well Prince William is ready to step up when the time comes. We shall see how Charles’ health continues. God save the King! 🙏

The reigning King or Queen of the UK is also the head of the Anglican Church (AKA Church of England) - that's why there was controversy when Charles married Camilla, because Camilla was Roman Catholic (i.e. the original Christian denomination which Henry Viii split from).
The King/Queen's speech cannot be political, because the reigning monarch legally is not allowed to take a side in politics (they're just a political figurehead), but it can be religious, because they are the official Head of a christian denomination.

From Canada -- watching this is a part of Christmas Day for my family. "The King's Christmas message ... is a broadcast made by the sovereign of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms to the Commonwealth of Nations each year at Christmas. The tradition began in 1932 with a radio broadcast by King George V via the British Broadcasting Corporation's Empire Service. The message is broadcast on television, radio, and the Internet via various providers. It is usually broadcast at 15:00 GMT on Christmas Day. Unlike some other speeches, such as the King's Speech at the State Opening of Parliament which is written by the government, the Christmas speech is a personal message written by the monarch with input from their spouse and direct advisors."

Queen Elizabeth was still carrying out Royal Duties two days before she passed. The King resuming Royal Duties even while receiving ongoing cancer treatment. Catherine Princess of Wales has finished her chemotherapy and both seem to be doing well 🙏🏼🙏🏼. We are lucky to have Our Royal Family.
